Saintly man or woman die and are at the pearly gates when they ask if instead they can go to hell: after all, they spent their life helping those in need and who needs help more than the denizens of hell? And perhaps by preaching to the demons they can get them to mend their ways and life will be easier on earth.
Heaven reluctantly agrees and MC goes to hell to see the equally baffled sinners and demons.
Could go a few ways: obvious would be MC gets corrupted and they realize their hubris damned them.
But I think it would be fun if MC actually thrives in hell and the demons attempts to corrupt them get turned back on them. For example: succubus tries to tempt them into a wild orgy but MC winds up dominating succubus.
