The Not Always Erotic Writers Thread

I need to come up with a better title at the risk of being misleading and/or misplaced but not many read the stories section anyway.

I just kind of wanted a place to know if there are any other writers out there that enjoy writing anything more than just erotica. I've met many people who write on here but not a lot that actually sitting down for the love of writing about other different genres. I started writing when I was 12 but have been going through a major writers block, and while I've writen only a few erotica pieces, I'm more of a horror/drama/angst/fantasy fiction kind of writer. I'm hoping I can break through again soon.

I hope the thread doesn't go ignored. It'd be nice to get to know more people that enjoy writing and share about it :)

I believe we share the same monkey on the back...
I have been writing since I was very young also and have been heavily influenced by Shirley Jackson, Stephen King, and Edgar Allan Poe to name a few.
I have only written erotica as a means to an end, to get to know someone sexually that I have met on here or on that "other" site, however, I am currently working on a dark erotica piece with a co-author that we hope to publish for the general public.
My first novel was a classic gothic romance while my second and third are darker and more substantial, for lack of a better word.
My short stories have been in the horror/supernatural genre also. It is the genre I love to read and my favorite to write.
Good luck with the writer's block. The only way I know how to beat it is a long soak in the hot tub, it's where my muse lives.

Hello Sadie,

I've been at it almost 20 years now. Fiction (novels) first, then screenplays and now back into fiction. (Drama, crime/noir if I had to genre myself). My erotic fiction here has been mainly playing out fantasies or embellishing memories ("I wish it would have gone THAT way..."). But I do like the exercise of it. I keep telling myself I'm going to do more.

Anyway, as for writers block, I know what a terror it can be. While waiting for the lightning bolt, try going back over an old work. Edit, play with it. See what you would have done differently. It can get the jucies going or at least keep your mind tuned. It will make you more receptive to the stories "out there".

Best of luck. It's ALWAYS worth doing.

Hi Sadie, I'm enjoying writing for the first time since school. I loved doing short stories then and thought I'd take a more serious stab at it now. In as much as my story has a variety of sex in different genres, it represents a small percentage of the over-all story.

I figured if I put every element into it, I'd never have to concentrate on the erotic parts and let them blend into the rest of the story naturally. My hopes are to write a story that appeals to a wide audience of different tastes.

A Writer Needs To Breathe

I write because I have to, just like breathing for me. Not everything I write on here is well received...I've been writing since I was seven years old when I wrote about the pain of losing your best friend because they moved away, only I was the one always moving away...I think I was still reading Judy Blume then, but with in a few years I moved onto Jackie Collins and Stephen King...Didn't always understand it, but I bet I'd know what they were talking about were I to read them again today...Asked my mom what a blow job once...She got a little pale for a black woman...

Although, my writing tends to be dark, twisted, painful, and a lot like a sake bomb, I try to place a little sarcastic wit and love between the beginning and the end and occasionally more truth than fiction slips onto the pages...

As to fixing writer's block, I've always found getting a bit outside my comfort zone works best...I'll sometimes go small, and visit the diner up the street...Or I'll go big and sign up for a trip to Costa Rica with some friends...I once hopped on a plane and went to Vegas for 25 hours...didn't even pack a bag...Everything I needed fit into my purse...Lost 300 bucks but had a blast and a great story idea...
