No movement on mine for days...
Now, having said that I'm expecting a squadron to hit.

The summer of 2022 is drawing to a close, the air is starting to get a chill, the first few leaves are starting to change color, and the Summer Lovin' contest is in full swing, that can mean only one thing - it's time to start cranking out that Halloween story that you've been dying to tell! Let's kick off Autumn 2022 with a new support thread

Halloween (Oct 31)
Themes: scary stuff, costumes, Halloween traditions (trick-or-treating, etc.), etc.
  • You can begin submitting on (or before): September 30

  • The last day to submit is October 21

  • Winners Will Be Announced: October 28

  • Author must copy and paste the phrase "HALLOWEEN 2022" to the "Notes to Admin" field of the submission (without the quotation marks)

  • Add the tag "HALLOWEEN 2022" (without the quotation marks)

Read Laurel's notice of the start of the contest sticky at the top of the Authors' Hangout before submitting and follow the instructions in that thread. I will keep an eye out for that information and update this page as soon as I see it (or as soon as someone points it out to me)

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2022 Halloween Contest. For you new writers, this thread is a great place to meet your fellow authors and share ideas, tips, and tricks of the trade.

As Ogg always tells us, there is an advantage to entering stories in one of Literotica's themed contests, apart from the possibility of winning, and that is that your story gets far more exposure and attention than it would normally do.

Some of that attention might be unwelcome, some abusive, this thread is good place to vent after getting that kind of attention. Some of that attention could be appreciative and helpful and this thread is a great place to come and share those accolades.

It's that time! Bring out your masks, candies, and creepy accessories, and prepare put a spell on your readership.

This is my first attempt at a contest, and one very important thing eludes me. How exactly are votes accrued? Five-star ratings? Favorited? I don't see an obvious "Vote here" option. (call me clueless)

Vote score, but you need a minimum of 25 votes to qualify

At the end of your story is five blank stars. The reader hopefully picks a score from 1-5 for your story. Hopefully, because only a small percentage of views is converted to a vote.

From what I can see from the story list, your poltergeist story has a score of 4.55, which is pretty good. If you look in your own story file, that will be different, but you'll also see how many have voted.

Naw, I'm happy with my 4.56, and I'm pretty sure all the ones that are going to be removed have been removed!

I was disheartened (pardon the pun) by only having garnered 4 hearts.

I just can't wait for the 28th of October so we can see the winners!

I plan to congratulate them all, along with anyone who turned a story in, or read the stories. And ... I am going to have a giant glass of candy cocktail!!!! Mmmmmmm chocolate martini. (I've only had that once...and if I could find one nearby I would get one for that night!)

When my father really wants to celebrate, he buys a bottle of Dom Perignon. However, with it over $300 bucks a bottle right now, he won't be splurging for any celebrations in the near future.

Seems to be a few different takes on the recipe, but this one looks good. Make your own and save a bundle! I'd make you one, but it might get lost in the mail.

Other than the three prize winners, is there a ranking?

No, though some people try to maintain one. But the fact is that nobody knows PRECISELY when the contest ends, nor how big a gap there is between then and the last sweep. So whomever wanted to establish an "accurate" ranking would need to be constantly updating all the stories' scores during that last half-hour or so.

It's a daunting task. You're best off just submitting, then sitting back and enjoying the ride.

I used to run The Authors' Hangout Last Place (TM) Contest in which the person with the lowest score won nothing except the awe and esteem of their fellow authors.

To enter you had to declare your rating as close as possible to the Winners of the main contest. If you were embarrassed you didn't have to enter the last place contest.

The stories 'winning' last place needn't necessarily be bad - just unpopular.

Because of 1 bombs AFTER the winners of the main contest were announced, the winner of the main contest might also be eligible to win the Last Place contest...

We should do this again.

My wife loves Chocolate Martinis. I can't stand them, but I don't mind the effect they have on her. Her favorite though is caramel apple.

I just stick with JD, once in awhile I'll even add a little coke.

Being within some semblance of the top scores and not woefully below them was my meaning. LOL, But last I checked, there were several scores above the 4.7 range. However, you'd have to open them all up and write down the scores to really know how close or far away you ended up.

Purely based on my history, if your final post-sweep score isn't above 4.8 you're not in the hunt. But, you won't know beforehand if you are in it. Sweeps cut both ways, hitting dodgy high and low scores.

If the winner of the Valentines Day contest can be a BDSM story then anything can happen and usually does.

Not to mention that on a Web site like this, a GM one can win a Valentine's Day contest, and has.

One vote short of "entering" but with a 4. I am above my previous competition score for nude day. So, I take that as a win!

Lol. Another 1* dropped in to have their say just now - almost sure to meet the sweep shortly.
