The Official Authors' Hangout Halloween 2022 Contest Support Thread

Laurel tries to do her best even when we screw up or there is a glitch in the gitty up.

Deleted. This post was to suggest how to get Bazzle's story into the contest, but I see now that was covered already.

We've all done it. I've forgotten the "notes to admin" tag more than once. Laurel always squared me away.

Looking forward to some great pieces tomorrow!

It takes a little bit of time for the votes to hit the page. Check your home published story page. That gets updated first.

I'm hoping mine hits the page tomorrow, it's an Amorous Goods/Halloween story.
I looked at mine in pending. It's approved as "new", and it shows the date as 10/01/2022.

So, look at your pending story to see when they've scheduled it to publish.

The title "Amorous Goods: ..." probably set the publish date.

I'm feeling a little better today, but to be honest, I only just got up. Mum is still here until Jo gets home tonight from work. If I can get a clear head today, I'll begin my story for the contest.

All I can say having read some of the stories. I didn't know there were so many horny vampires out there!

Well done all!

Arrrgh, I'm still writing so I can't chance a peek or it may force my story in a different direction
:(

I had my muse for mine at Christmas. It was effectively written in February and been polished since. Waiting for October!

Ah yes! Off and running.

So far so good. This will be my first Halloween story that actually got inspired by something that happened to me… ON Halloween.

I love it when the comment tells me the writer of the comment didn't even take the time to ready any of the story. The comment was for the category and not the story. Oh, well, everyone has their thing.

And then you have the troll comment to try and stop others from reading the story. Got to love those also.

In both cases, they got the boot to the trash can where they belong.

So finally I've finished drafting. A weekend of editing ahead of me then hopefully submit next week. If anyone fancies a read, I may need a second opinion on this one, but it is 24k words so not exactly short. Please PM me if you think you could help.

Here's the unedited intro:

If only walls could talk.

What would they say to you?

Every house has a tale to tell. For some the story is clearly wanting to be told, written for all to see on walls and floors, leaving little to the imagination. Others though, well… suffice to say they keep their narrative deep within the fabric of the house itself, secrets hidden between the very walls with which the house was built, hidden away from prying eyes, to remain just that… secrets.

Secret or not, every house does have a story to tell. Happy times, sad times, passionate times, tumultuous times, they see all, they hear all. Those which have been standing for many a decade, will have a smorgasbord of intrigue, mystery and romance etched into their walls. Even the newest of houses will have its own story, albeit one patiently waiting to be written.

For every house with a story to tell, there are those who go looking for it, either gazing at the visible history, or searching deeper for the hidden secrets within. It is like a passion… an obsession… a destiny… always believing, never stopping, ever the optimist that the next house will be ready to reveal all.

This is the story of one such house, and one such young woman, a twenty-something young woman who spends her whole life searching for those more hidden of secrets. More so, it is the story of just what happens when the house decides she is the one worthy of knowing its deepest mysteries, of becoming one with those very walls.

Oof. I wanted to finish my submission for the opening day, but here we are and it’s maybe 80% done. Damn real world! I wrote a lot of what was still missing today, so that’s something at least. Hopefully I can knock it out this weekend and polish it to post early this coming week.

My first draft is finished. Not a long story, 3600 words, written in one sitting yesterday. Now a few dozen read-throughs, changes here and there, and figuring out a title and Category to publish my opus de horror in. Erotica Horror doesn't get much attention, does it?

Not normally, but it certainly does at contest time. That's the only time I post stories there, and they get a LOT of eyes.
Then there it shall go! ;) Hopefully, it will at least receive a solid 4 ranking. It's a tasty tale if you have a taste for that sort of thing.
