The Official Valentine’s Day Contest Support Thread 2026

Just getting to this after being away for a while — huge congrats to @theWriterInTheNude ("This is a long one ..." — I mean, you're not kidding!), @storyteller19 and @FrancesScott, amazing stories all round (of course they are, they won ... idiot!). I really enjoyed this, my first contest, as well as the 750-word challenge, discovering so many great writers, and taking notes — so much to learn!!

Is Valentine's Day a more popular competition than others? Out of my 13 published stories, No Refunds - A Valentine's Day Tale has the 4th most 'favourites' of any of my stories at 110, the second most views at 71.6k and the 4th most ratings at 975. By contrast, my Christmas story is still only at 66.1k views, and the Halloween one is only at 17.6k. Really seems to be something about Valentine's Day that brings out the horniness in readers.

My impression, having been in these contests for many years, is that the Holiday, Halloween and VDay contests get the most engagement. Nude Day and Summer are next, and April Fools most decidedly lowest.

My own perception is that VDay Nude Day, and Halloween are the easiest to write for.

Congratulations to the winners!

I've been meaning to get back into the contests, but didn't have anything ready. I'm intrigued by the April Fools Contest. Is this generally meant to be more humorous stories? It's the one theme that I find a little odd to get the feel for.

I am currently working out the final kinks in my April Fools 750 word vignette. My thoughts - misdirection with an organic twist. YMMV

It's definitely an interesting challenge, something that's both erotic but playful, the two can easily pull in different directions.

I've entered about three times and my stories have been beaten like rented mules each time.

So. If I had a handle on what that contest is looking for, I'd tell you. But I don't.

Yeah the threads give an idea of the 'themes' to follow, and so far I've completely ignored those and gone 'Halloween story, Christmas story, Valentine's Day Story, April Fools Day story.' Otherwise it just feels too easy to rebadge almost any story as technically fitting the theme.

Talking about April Fools stories in the Valentine's Day thread seems odd, but...Go back and read a few winners from previous years. They will give you a clue as to successful AF's themes in the past. My interpretation is fairly broad as I believe any story with a fun twist in it is a potential candidate, but then again, I've never won an AF contest.

The list of last year’s stories is here. But I would suggest forgetting about winning or the popularity of the contest. For me, the contest is about the fun you can have. Sex is fun. Trickery can be fun, and can be enormously satisfying to write.

Last year I wrote a piece about mirrored identical twins performing a stage act where they were trying to trick each other as well as the audience, and another piece about a newsroom reporter publicly exposing her husband’s affair with a colleague during an April Fools Day news story about a website that exposed infidelity by public figures. The latter was in LW and was never going to get a prize, but boy was it fun to write and some of the reactions were priceless, including a full one-star diatribe from a humourless St*cnash. How we laughed…

The fun never stops. My Valentines Day story was at 4.85 at the closing of the contest, now it's at 4.61.

I have learned not to obsess over scoring, but sometimes, it just makes your head spin.
