Except he's wrong. 'Republic' does not exclude 'democracy' else all republics would be like China and banana republics: clique-run kleptocracy. Tyranny.Thanks for the part about amending the constitution. Didn't know that.
Democracy is built into the US Constitution -- all that boring stuff about 'votes' and "voting rights". Of the 30-odd occurrences of the word 'right' in the Constitution, most concern voting. Y'know, as in d-e-m-o-c-r-a-c-y.
'Republic' means representative gov't, not theocracy or monarchy.
'Democracy' means reps are chosen by voters, not by clans or cliques.
A sign you're being lied to: They argue that one excludes the other.
