The Passing of "Extreme"

Pure,

I'm interested but I haven't been reading all that much of late. I was never quite clear on exactly what the criteria were to relegate a story to the extreme section. It seemed pretty haphazzard to me in many cases.

As for what's extreme now, I couldn't say, but one thing I have noted is the "softening" of the NonConsent section to include "Reluctance" and, frankly, it bugs me.

We already had a high percentage of stories that involved an initial forced situation which immediately turned into "Fuck my everluvin bimbo brains out you big black studs!!!" the minute the female's panties came off. And I've ranted at length about how much those kinds of stories irritate me.

This is not to say that all the stories are like that or that there are no seriously rough stories there any longer, but it was just something that I noticed that bugged me.

I've never read any stories in the horror section so I know nothing about what ends up there. I assumed it was a ghosty kind of thing, but that would be covered under non-human, right? What kind of stuff does end up in horror?

Gah, I hate those.

So what are some alternatives now that Extreme is gone and NC is tamer? I'm thinking free with limited ad banners if possible, but I'd rather have lots of ads on a free site than have to pay for my hardcore smut. I'll have to take a cruise through JanesGuide to see if I can answer my own question, too.

hi bb,

Well, extreme concentrated on bestiality, and rape (including maiming and murder).

While you're correct there's some softening in nonconsent, it's also hardened a bit. I'm thinking of some frank rape stories like

btw, what is it about restaurants that gets people so nasty? is it the poor food?

I haven't surveyed it in detail, but I believe 'horror' now takes, besides spirits, severe brutality, and murder. Here is the current blurb

Classic horror movies by legendary directors like Argento, Fulci, Romero, D'Amato, Hooper, Lenzi, etc., contain sometimes shocking scenes of cannibalism, violence, gore, zombies, death, and horror. Stories in this category might have some or all of those elements.

Here's a rape murder example. Check this well written little number:

So I suspect that bestiality is one of the few neglected areas in present day literotica (there are several stories, but hidden [deniability?])

I hoping others might post some references for stories that were formerly extreme. Freedom of expression and all that.

There have always been some hardcore stories in NonConsent --- one of the reasons that the criteria for Extreme were a bit puzzling. Frex, Broken Vows was hardly extreme compared to many of the other stories that were in NonConsent at the time. Also, as you point out, the stories you listed are rougher than much of what shows up in NonConsent.

I've come across the odd beastiality bit mixed in as well as the occasional underage reference on Lit.

My point wasn't that I have no idea what extreme means but that there didn't seem to be any real standard for what ended up there even though the stories were primarily concerned with torture and/or bestiality.

I've been reading in the Erotic Horror section and I've noticed two things. First, as you mention, there is certainly a giallo quality to some of the stories. Bodies are mutilated and people die so in that respect they might have fallen under the domain of the late Extreme section. The second thing I noticed and what I find most interesting is that the stories seem to be in general of a higher quality of writing than what one encounters in the NonConsent section which is primarily what I read.

Many of them have less overt sex --- they're more concerned with the horror aspects -- and that may be why they're better. Not that you can't write well when writing smut, but having a focus that is wider than the bumping of uglies seems to lend itself to better stories.

I agree with much of your analysis of why many 'horror' stories may be better written. you have to aim for the mind of the reade, not just the crotch. and you have to evoke feeling besides 'oh boy, let's do it.'
