The Patient (Closed)

Felix

(OOC: Sorry, Sweet. Been busy! :))

From the door, Felix watches as Carly wheelspins her car before sending it hurling down the gravelled track leading back to the main road. He doesn't move until she has gone.

What just happened then? He finally asks himself as he moves back into the kitchen. He isn't sure. Only that one minute Carly was splashing herself with water, the next she was on the floor blabbering away about this place being haunted?

Shaking his head, he sees grabs a mop and clears up the puddle on the floor.

"Done." He says to himself, as he puts the mop away. "Now where was I? That's right. Some fishing."

Picking up the fishing gear, he heads for the door only to stop.

What was that?

He had felt a strange warmth pass through his body.

As if something had...

Disconcerted, he scans the kitchen only to find nothing out of the ordinary there.

"What am I doing?" He says to himself. "I'm getting as bad as Carly."

Shaking his head again, he continues on his way...

Lissa

She followed him around all day, trying to get his attention. Wading with him, watching him fish and the entire time speaking to him. Yet he never said a word to her, he never glanced in her direction.

The only time she got his attention was by touching him.. and so she did. A little at first, a brief little caress on his face, or along his back. She sent a cold chill down his spine to stop him from stepping on a sharp piece of metal in the bottom of the lake, and a warming sensation when he caught his first fish of the vacation.

He didn't talk to himself, infact he still rarely smiled at all. He was missing his wife.... Jane? She believe that was the woman's name? She still did not understand her purpose for being here? Her purpose for this strange attraction she felt to Felix, nor why she wasn't awake and walking around in her own body.

Many things did not make sense to her lately, but she did welcome with a sweet smile his reactions to her. If he could feel her, however vaguely, it could be only a matter of time before he could hear her and see her... She hoped to go he could!

"Oh Felix.... What I wouldn't give to be me again.." She sighed heavily, her mood darkening with sadness as she moved away from him and towards the cabin. A storm was brewing, thunder and lightening hitting almost exactly at the same moment.. It fit her mood perfectly. She wanted to be alive again, she wanted to know what her purpose here was?

She stepped inside the cabin just as Felix got up from the shore not to far away. She turned and stood in the door way, she hated the feel of something passing through her, and rain was one of the many things.

Felix

The rest of the day moves peacefully with only him and mother nature. It has been so long since he has finished that he has almost missed what it is like.

And it is good to be alone for a change. No having to pretend to anyone. No having to try and put on an act.

No, here he can be himself.

There is only one thing that keeps bothering though . He has the vague feeling that someone or something is here with him. He can't put his finger on it, but throughout the day, he could swear something kept brushing against him. And there are the hot and cold flushes he keeps having.

It must be his imagination!

Wanting to clear his mind of such stupid thoughts, he looks around him.

"It's going to storm." He says to himself, noticing the black clouds quickly forming. Already he can hear the rumble of thunder in the distance. Looking at his watch, he is surprised to see that it is almost 6 in the afternoon.

"Time to go back in."

Wading back to shore, he picks up his tackle and horde and returns to the cabin. By the time he reaches it, the sky has become completely black and the rumbling is almost above him.

Suddenly the sky lights up, followed by a deep boom. He just makes it inside as the very heavens open up and the rain falls in torrents.

"Phew!." He says to himself as he reach forward for put down the fish, only to feel something touch his hand and run up his arm.

What the hell?

Another lightning flash lights up the cabin's dark interior and he freezes as he finds himself looking at a face.

A girl's face.

As if under a spell, he can only stare before the room is plunged back into darkness.

Physically shaking, he quickly switches on the main light and looks around. There is no-one there.

But he could have sworn he has seen someone!

Still shaking, he decides to quickly help himself to the small bottle of whiskey that he had brought with him.

That's better! He thinks to himself as he feels the hot liquid being its journey down to the depths of his belly.

Feeling better, he decides to make himself busy and get the open fire going before preparing the fish for his meal...

"You caught some!" She grinned with pleasure at his success and reached out. Her hand caressed his as she slid it up her arm.
"Thats so wonder-... Felix?" He paled a little, jerking away from her?

"Felix?" She whispered his name again, his eyes seemed to scan the room just before it was lit up by lightening. His eyes widened even further as she stared hard at him with worry.

"Felix?" The lightening vanished as he uprighted and jerked around. "Did you see me?" She asked, moving quickly behind him, reaching out to touch him just as he flipped on the lights.

Jumping a little, she gasped in shock at the sudden brightness. Felix seemed to scan the room, looking for something.. Or some one!

"You did see me! Didn't you?!" She circled him, around and around until she stopped before him again. Her hand shot up and waved infront of his face but he gave no hint he seen her then?

"Well damn it!" She grumbled and then stopped, Felix was visbly shaken. His features drawn and pale before some colour returned to his face.

"You saw me.. I know you did! You had to! Now what?" She mumbled as she shuffled slowly along behind him. She paid no mind to him as he downed the whiskey and sat down at the counter with his fish. He seemed to relax alot, but still kept glancing around a bit.

"Felix? Pleeeeeeeease.. See me! Please.." She sighed, feeling lonely yet again, depressed and hating her status. She hated not being able to touch! But she could touch! She had touched Cindy just before she left, had hugged the girl infact! So... Does that mean Felix needs to believe in her before he can see and touch her?

She lingered around while he cooked, hoping to get hit attention, but how? She moved the salt and pepper from where he placed it, but he didn't seem to notice, only made a face before he picked them up and put them away. She moved his whiskey glass down from where he set it and when he turned to pick it up, he again stared at it, but said nothing. He picked it up and filled it yet again..

She sat across from him as he ate his dinner in silence, but had no chances to move anything, even infront of his face she had nothing near by to move. She tried to move his glass but she passed through it.

She followed him into the shower and sat on the toilet seat as he showered.

"What can I do to make you see me? What do I have to do?!" She shouted out loud, hoping that whatever god there was out there would answer her.. Give her some insight behind this roaming?

She stood before the mirror, watching and seeing herself.. Why couldn't he see her? She ran a hand down her own body and felt it.. She could feel the heat of her own touch.. She could write her name on the mirror on the steamy surface.. Why couldn't he see her? Hear her?

"Felix?" She said his name again in hopes he'd answer her.

Felix

"Huh?"

Instantly, he shuts off the water, his ears straining.

Nothing!

He could have sworn he heard someone call out his name. With a puzzled look, he resumes his showering, the new moisture completely eradicating the name on the mirror.

*************

After he had showered and put on some shorts and a gown, Felix returns to the small lounge and sit down in front of the open fire which is roaring by now. Taking another mouthful of whiskey, he opens his book and starts to read.

He has only read a paragraph when he slowly falls asleep...

Lissa

She hovered around until it was obvious he could not, or would not hear her. She roamed the small house, inspecting things, peeking into closets and cupboards, biding time until he was done with his shower.

She was becoming frustrated with this waiting and trying over and over again. Felix was not cooperating with her, his mind seemed to blocked or something?

Thats when she found him asleep on the chair, a book nestled in his lap unattended. She removed the book, placed his mark into it and shut the book. Setting it down on the stand, she moved to him, her hand reaching out.

She paused just before his skin again, worried she might go through him, so instead she knelt between his legs and sat staring up at him.

"What draws me to you? Why am I compelled to help you, to help myself? Why can't you hear me Felix? See me?" Her thoughts nagged at her, pushed her to find out the answers, but how??

Her hands rested on his thighs as she had been thinking, and suddenly, she realized something....... They were resting on his thighs! She was not passing through him again.

She stared at her hands longer than she had stared at him, curious how all of this was working? It was so stranger, fascinating.. but not when she was stuck as a freakin' ghost!

She concentrated a little more, thoughts about mergings and all sorts of things that mixed well, trying to pass through him again?

The fire popped and scared her out of her thoughts. Jumping slightly, she gasped out. "Hell!"

Felix seemed to jump and his brows knitted in his sleep.

"Felix?..." She whispered, her eyes quickly scanning his face for clues. "Can you hear me?"

She reached out again and touched him, but this time she merged into him, felt his warmth and the beat of his heart pumping through her.. They were linked some how when she touched him? Something gave way and opened an unseen portal into him, into feeling again...

"My name is Lissa.. Felix.. Say my name? Please? Tell me you hear me?" She had heard some will hear things in their sleep when their natural defenses are down and their minds are open to new and unexplainable things...... was it true?

She moved her hand higher and sat on the chair, not his lap.. More of her merging within Felix.

Felix

He founds himself shiving as he stands in the snow.

How did he get here?

He immediately recognises it, it's Barbara and Freddie's back garden - Jane's parents.

But what is he doing here? And how come it's snowing in the middle of summer?

"Oh Felix!" It's Barbara calling him from the back door. "Jane wants to have a 'word' with you."

Felix grins to himself. It happens every year at Christmas. Jane would ask if she can have a 'word' with him and he finds out that she has bought him an extra gift.

Ah, well! He still has time to wrap up his extra gift when it is his turn to want that special word.

"Coming!" He shouts as he heads for the door.

Wiping his feet as he enters, he feels his skin tingle as the warm air hit him. At the same time, he can smell the turkey cooking.

"You coming, slowcoach?" His wife is shouting from the living room. She is always so impatient when it comes to things like this. He has never known anyone who loves giving as much as she does.

"Coming!" He replies as he enters the living room.

With only the open fire and lights of the Christmas Tree to illuminate the room, he sees his wife standing, with her back to him, in front of the tree itself. For a moment, he feels a touch of sadness which he cannot fathom. He quickly dispells it.

"Stretch your arms and close your eyes." She giggles.

WIth a huge grin on his face, he does as he is told. Waiting expectantly for his surprise.

"Felix, I wish you could hear me."

"Huh?" Caught by surprise, he opens his eyes.

"Oi! No PEEKING." His wife, still in front of him, laughs. But Felix is looking around, puzzled by the voice had just heard.

"Darling? Does Barbara and Freddie have any other people here? Apart from us I mean. I could swear I heard someone say my name."

"Then you
did hear me." Says Barbara as she enters the room.

The strangest thing is that it doesn't sound like Barbara...

"You can hear me, but you can not see me.." She stepped forward moving around the living room of his dream land and forcing away the background.

Jane seemed shocked but said nothing since it was Felix's dream controlling her.

"I have been trying to reach you Felix for months now.. At work..." She moved forward, her hands up "please dont turn and leave.." She pleaded with him as he moved away.

The room shifted and it was no longer christmas and Jane was no longer in the room.

"See me Felix.. See me as I am.." She conjured up through sheer will her own image. Seeing through his eyes, projecting her upmost wants through him, into him and through his mind. Slowly Barbara vanished and in that woman's place stood Lissa.

"I was here tonight while you showered.. I was there while you were fishing and.. and that nurse came by.. I need your help Felix.." The dream started to shift, she was losing contact with him. He kept glancing around, as if wondering who she was and where she came from.

"No.. Wait! Please.." She stepped towards him and began to fade out from his dream. "I need you to see me Felix..." A tear slid down her cheek as she tried to reach him in his dream but the house suddenly grew longer and longer, moving her further and further away from him. He was protecting himself...But why?

She jerked back from his body, his will forcing her out of his dream, his mind and his body. Shivering, she curled onto the floor in a little ball between him and the fire place. The book fell from his lap and landed open on her. Not noticing it failed to hit the floor, she pushed it off and slowly rose to her knees before the fire. How could she feel so cold when she had no body?

Felix

Suddenly he is awake. Disorientated, he looks the darkness and remembers that he is in the small living room and that the fire had burnt itself out.

Finding himself shivering, he looks at his watch.

11.30pm

He thinks about going to bed but something stops him. Instead, he gets up and tends to the fire. Only when it is going nicely, does he sits down again.

After reading a chapter of his book, he looks his watch again.

12.30am

Thanks to the artificial log he had used, he realises that it will take another 3 hours to burn. Getting up, he goes into his bedroom and comes out with a blanket.

In front of the fire, the man quickly makes himself comfortable on the sofa, his body covered by the blanket.

Slowly, gently, sleep claims him...

She sat watching him, recovering from her journey into his mind and dreams, all the while wondering what she had to do to make him see her? How could she get Felix to feel her? Hear her? She had to do something, didn't she?

Over and over her mind wondered if perhaps she was his guardian angel now? Or was she trapped outside her body forever until age took her? Surely they wouldn't let her stay in the hospital for much longer, sooner or later they'd have to move her body to a resting home or something...

Was she trapped here? Could she go back? Did she need Felix to take her back? All these things and more poured through her mind, if it could be called a mind now? WIth no body, with no voice, she was nothing..

She hated that feeling, it was empty and cold. She longed to laugh again, cry real tears, touch and feel it! She silently mused these thoughts, unmoving as Felix sat in the chair sleeping. His blanket had slipped down and his hand twitched a little in his sleep. His eyes darted back and forth behind closed lids.. he was dreaming again.

She had to try again, there was no way she was going to be stuck like this forever! She wanted to live again, not move through walls and play peeping tom any longer....

She slowly moved from the floor, her hand steadily reaching out until she rested it atop his. Again, she was not passing through him, and his hand shifted under her own.

"Felix? Can you hear me?" She felt funny speaking but she could hear herself.. Shouldn't he be able to do the same?

There was no response, only a moan and his hand slid from her under her own. This time her hand went through his leg and the connection, weak as it were, started again. She felt drawn to him, drawn into him. His heat, the beating of his heart, the feelings that he had now ept into her mind as well. A sensory high? It was appealing whatever it was.

Everything about him seemed to draw her in and she rose up and slid more of her aura into his own. Her upper body now rested inside his lap, her arms connected and parts of her chest to him. She closed her eyes, relaxing herself and attempting to merge within his dreams.. Conjuring up her own image again was proving hard since Felix had never seen her, she had to make him accept what was her and not some big breasted bimbo off of TV.

"Felix?" She whispered his name within her mind, hearing it echo a little as she took in the frightening darkness around her. He sees nothing yet since his last dream stopped.. With no scenary, she needed to do something.

"Felix? See the hospital.. the nurses coming and going.. your floor, the nightly chores someone else is doing while you take vacation?"

She felt more than saw him nod, the darkness melting away and walls appearing before her. Desks, rooms and numbers, even the color matched the reality hospital... A nurse walked by, naked in garters... That part was HIS doing! She chuckled and pressed on but carefully.

"Room 18 Felix... Mellissa... Cindy is room 12.... Lissa.. That is me, Felix.. " She slowly took shape, using all her vocabulary to describe herself until she was as close to her own image as possible.."Room 18.. come see me.. Please? I'm lonely.."

Some how she manuevered Felix to her door, but she could not make him enter.. that had to be his choice obviously.. Her will power wasn't as great as his, she sighed and pleaded again for him to enter.

Felix

He is back at the hospital. It's halls full of people as they go to and throe to do their jobs.

His holiday is over already? It has seemed so quick. And why is he wearing no clothes? But for some reason, he does not feel embarrassed. More curious, no-one appears to be taking any notice of his nudity either. In fact, they don't even seem to be aware he is there at all?

And why does he feel this almost overwhelming compulsion to enter 'Room 18'? The room that he happens to be standing in front of?

He does not know but he has to find out.

Going to enter the room, Felix moves his hand to turn the handle. Instead he finds himself on the other side of the door.

What???

What had just happened then? Did he just literally walk through the door?

"Hello, Felix."...

Lissa

Through his senses she could feel the cool breeze of the hospital, smell the ether they used and the bleach that sterilized everything. She could hear voices and bottles chiming as they rattled somewhere near by. Through him and their contact, she had a wild array of senses she could once more feel.

It was a heady sensation, one she never thought she'd ever notice lack of until now... And now she missed the simplest things a body could give you...

She turned to face him, his dream warping within her own struggle to keep him there.. That could explain his nakedness? She stood a little over five and a half feet tall. Her brown hair and blue eyes smiling in welcome as she faced him.. He could see her!

"Please, don't run away.. I need you Felix." She moved slowly towards him, her hands held out beseaching him not to vanish. "My name is Melissa.. Lissa, my friends call me Lissa." She smiled warmly at him, "I've been wanting to meet you for awhile now.. Won't you come in?" She gave him berth, letting him decide whether to fight her or not.. She could turn it easily into an erotic dream, a reason for him to remain, but she did not like using trickery of any kind.. not when it was this important.

Felix

Looking at the owner of the voice, he sees a young woman walking towards him.

"Please, don't run away.. I need you Felix." She holds her arms out. "My name is Melissa.. Lissa, my friends call me Lissa." She smiled warmly at him, "I've been wanting to meet you for awhile now.. Won't you come in?"

Felix looks at her and then the surrounding room.

None of this makes sense! How could he walk through the door? It's as if this is some kind of dream.

"Felix? Who's that at the door? " Felix turns at the sound of his wife's voice and finds himself wearing a tux and standing at the front door of their home. Jane is standing next to him wearing her favourite black dress. The sight of her brings a lump to his throat.

Looking over his shoulder, Jane glares at the woman from the hospital who is now standing at the door.

"It's you again." She says coldly. "Go away and leave us alone. Hasn't my
husband made it clear that he wants nothing more to do with you? Fuck off!" His wife pushes past him and slams the door shut.

Turning towards him, she fixes him with a cold hard stare.

"What was
she doing here?"

She knows her???

"I have already warned you, Felix." She continues. "It's either our family or her. If you want to continue fucking that tart then I am taking Josh and leaving you -
for good! Is that what you want???"

Felix is completely dazed.

What is going on here and who is Josh?

Realising that Jane is expecting an answer, he quickly says 'No'. Her demeanour does not change.

"Good. Now get your coat. We are already late for my father's dinner and the taxi is here."

Grabbing his coat, he follows his wife out the apartment and gets into the taxi...

"NO! I will drive Danny, please, get into the passenger side."

She shook her head, her brows furrowing as her vision blurred and focused.

"Felix? Wait.." She turned to follow and realized something..

"Heyyyy.. yewshhh can't be seen..in mah car Lis.." Her eyes widened in horror as she sat in Danny's old car.

"Wait..." She was confused, her hands shook as things began to flash through their joined minds.. Something was triggering her memory.. Wasn't it?

"D-Danny?" Only when she looked up it was Felix's face.

"Who's ya think it wassh?" His words slurred, his breath heavily doused with the stench of alcohol.

"Oh shut up Danny! Everyone knows you brought me." Her words were forced as Danny/Felix crawled into the car.

"We can't do this.." She mumbled, staring fixed at the steering wheel.

"Oh yeah!" He broke out laughing, slouching heavily against her, his body twisting as he tried to put his head into her lap.

"Fe-Felix.. st-stop this.." She stammered, shaken, afraid... Her heart beat which wasn't there was felt hammering hard and painful in her breast.

"What?" Felix looked back at her with confusion on his face... Only it was Danny again.. Was she forcing Felix into her nightmare? Was this real? It was.. but yet it wasn't.

"Let's walk!" She tried to speak but the words didn't come out, instead she laughed along with him.

"Alright, lets go." Her own mouth spoke the words but her mind screamed "NO!"

She'd done this before.. She had done this horribly irrevocably before!

"I'M NOT DRIVING!" she shouted loudly at the wheel as her own hands, calm and relaxed handled the wheel of Danny's car.

"I'm so damned tired Lis.." he grumbled.

"Shhh, we'll be there soon.. It's only five blocks. We'll be fine.."
She let him lean into her vision, her body tensing as more details caming rushing through her mind of that night..

"NO!" She shouted louder, but no one listened to her. Felix sat there transfixed, staring hard as if he recognized this place? "Don't make me do this!" She started to cry.

"Shit Danny!! Doesn't the defrost work?" She fought with the buttons on the dash trying to find the right one in the dark as their body heat began to fog the windows.

He moved closer, further into her line of vision, her mind screamed to push him back, her hands left the buttons as his fumbled for the right one...

She looked down trying to see what he was doing, His sing-song voice cut into her mind like a freight train.. Loud and clear he seemed to shout "HEY! Better hurry!"

"NO!" She shouted yet again inside, her body recoiling from the fear she knew was coming, that inky blackness that caused all this..

"DANNY MOVE!" She shouted at him, her eyes seeing yellow.

".... but the light was yellow... it was yellow, Oh god...." A sobbing voice was heard from somewhere far away.. a distance unseen but heard.. It sobbed loudly, mumbling over and over again ".. but it was yellow..."

She was too close to the intersection to stop, Felix now blocked her view, his eyes staring harder into hers as her face paled and her eyes went wide..

"IT'S RED!!"

Breaks protested loudly as tires locked up on slick road. The wheel began to turn against her insistant pull on the wheel in the opposit direction.

Everything went black.. She could no longer see anything, she couldn't even feel anyone..

"Felix?" She trembled, hating the black. Hating that feeling of being totally alone.. She was cold and could feel herself shivering.

Somewhere glass exploded, metal crunched against metal. Someone screamed and kept screaming..

A silent pause......

"Oh god! SOMEONE CALL 911!" Another voice called out.

"LISSA!" Danny's voice, in agony, crying out with a horrible scream, but where was he? She couldn't see him..

A horn blared loudly, someone was resting against the wheel of her new car.. Forehead bloodied so badly..

A flash there! She seen something.

Someone was cursing, cars were heard trying to scramble out of the way... Footsteps.. running..

There it was again! She jumped, whirling around as suddenly sounds came back around her.. Only she was staring down at herself trapped inside the wrecked car.

She watched herself as her eyes opened and closed. A paramedic asked her a question, but she could hear nothing past the ringing in their/her ears...

".. it was.. yellow.." Her lips moved, her face pale and her eyes fading. "yellow.."

She was passed through some how as another EMT came rushing to peel back the door of the car.. The 'Jaws-of-life" being started as all around men began to pry and tug apart the two vehicles.

"WE'RE LOSING HER!" The distinct sound of voices soothing someone, a machine being started up that beeped.. Someone yelling for a neck brace..

She turned with tears on her face, turning to run away from the frightening sights before her and stopped dead still in her tracks..

Felix was there, standing beside the other wrecked car..

"Felix?" She stammered his name, moving slowly, roboticly up behind him...

Felix

He has seen it all. How the car had jumped the red lights and smashed into the side of the second. He watches the emergency medics breaking into the second car, pulling out its occupant.

But it is already too late. She is dead!

"Jane..." He whispers as he watches the lifeless body of his wife being put into a body bag.

"Jane..." He whispers as he remembers Jane's last phone call. She had some news to tell him. News, she had said, that would change their lives. She had been driving home to tell him when she had the accident.

"Felix?"

Hearing his name, Felix looks up and immediately recognises the girl coming towards him.

"Why...?" He cries, tears now flowing freely down his face. "Why did I have to see this?? I know
she died in a car crash. But why did I have to see it??"

The girl says nothing except look at his dead wife as the bag is zipped up.

Then he notices the deep gash on the girl's forehead. The torn clothes. As if she has just been in a...

Looking across, he sees more medics pulling people out of the car that had crashed into his wife's. One of them is an unconscious girl - the same girl that is standing in front of him.

Suddenly his grief burst into murderous rage.

"Y...y...you...killed her!" He chokes out as he lunges for her...

Lissa

Their bodies colide, something she had not been expecting. With a startled gasp, she can feel his hands tightening around her throat. Hitting the ground went unfelt, but not the anger and pain behind his eyes.

She struggled to draw air into her lungs as he hands tightened together. His words.. mumbled, sobbed, but clear to her.. She did not fight him, she felt the guilt as freshly as if she had just done this horrible deed.. In her mind, she had. Before the accident was a blurr to her, and everything after until she awoke to roam half-alive.

Inside her hospital room a few blocks away, her heart monitor jumped and started to set off the machines, her breathing stopped....

Tears rolled down her face as the scenary behind faded and left them in a total blank screen.. much like the end of a movie might do.

She almost gave in, almost let him take her life, if that was what he would be able to do here, but she wasn't a quitter!

She gripped his hands, pushing and prying them off until she could gasp for air..

"FELIX!" She coughed and kicked at him, her foot connecting with his thigh, pushing him off balance.. His hands let go, his will seemed to be lost amoung the tears rolling down his face..

She gasped and pulled herself upright, choking, coughing, crying herself. Hoarsely she muttered, "I'm sorry Felix.. I am sooo sorry.. I didn't know!" He faded from her sight.. waking perhaps?

She cried harder, now realizing she had killed someone that night..

Inside her bedroom at the hospital, the nurses and doctor are all trying to get her to breathe again when her body picks up where it left off.

"Monitor her heart rate, check vitals..." the doctor and nurses can not figure out what happened but quickly order up some more testing to be done.. Perhaps she is waking up? Or perhaps her body is finally giving in?

She jerked herself out of Felix's body, landing on the floor before the fire place. She can not look up at him, she can't seem to stomach that look on his face another second. Curling into a ball, she sits there, rocking, crying.. Wondering why in god's name she was here with this man?? The same man who's wife she killed..

How was that for irony? it was cruel, plain and simple.. Cruel and cold...

"I'm sorry Felix." Her voice was as miserable and strained as she felt, but did it matter? He would not, or perhaps could not, hear her... and right now, she doubted he ever would.

Felix

Felix wakes up with a start. Disorientated, he wonders where he is before quickly remembering that he is on the sofa in front of the fire. He sees that the fire has gone out.

Must have fallen asleep.

Looking at his watch, he sees that it is almost 2 am.

Better call it a night.

Getting up, he stretches, picks up his blanket and makes for his room. It is then he hears it

A gentle sob!

He stops and listens.

Again he hears it.

There's someone in here!

Standing still, he tries to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, only to find it seems to be coming from all directions. His eyes then catch a small white shape, almost shrouded in darkness, in the far corner of the room. Gently, he moves he approaches it and soon finds it is a young woman and she is crying.

Who is she and what is she doing here?

"Are you alright?" He asks, not knowing what else to say...

Lissa

"Are you alright?" It took her a brief second to realize Felix was speaking aloud and that he was standing over her himself.

Her startled eyes swung to his, meeting across a greater distance than what was reality.

"F-Felix?" She sobbed his name, her eyes so wide she appeared frightened.

He could see her? He could hear her?

"JESUS!" She burst out crying all the harder, her head hitting into the wall behind her, her corner.

?? She could feel it? Her head actually bounced off the wall, made a sound. She turned her head to look at the wall in confusion and then reached up with a shakey hand.

Did she dare? Could she?

She was too frightened to see if in fact she could touch something.

Her eyes swung to his again, the sorrow there in her face, the shame of what she had done, the horror of everything, all etched into her face, everything making her appear much older than she was.

"I'm so.s-s-so sor-rry." She turned from him, unwilling perhaps, or undeserving? She did not wish to be seen, she wanted to go away, die if that was the correct term.. She no longer wanted to be a thought, a vision.

She had killed someone! And not just anyone.. his pregnant wife!

"Go away!.. let me die!" She sobbed out miserably.

Felix

He has never seen anyone look so distaught. Worst still, she seems genuinely scared of him. Slowly, he pulls back. Once he is a respectful distance from the girl, he crouches down, sitting on the heels of his feet.

"Please go away. Just let me die. Plleeassse!" She tells him again, continuing to sob.

He has no intention of doing either. But what can he do? The poor woman is obviously in need of his help. Even his.

"I'm sorry." He tells her, forcing a smile on his face even though he knows she may not be able to clearly see him. "If I allowed you to do that then I would be allowing you to break my Second Rule."...

She heard him and jerked away, her self pity was at an all time high lately, and now he wanted to be nice?!

Was he mad?? He had to be..

She stiffled a sob and wiped her eyes, expecting tears but finding nothing, and yet at the same time she could feel their hot trail down her cheeks and taste the saltiness of each droplet.

What was going on here? She uncovered her face, staring at her hands, seeing each individual crease, line, and her scar from when she fell off her first bike.. but they felt cold, then she felt nothing.

Was she coming 'in and out' of it? Was she more real the more he continued to see her? To speak with her?

Why didn't he turn on her with disgust like he had in his dream? Why was he being so nice? Did he not really see her then?

"What?" She sniffled and blinked, hearing his comment but not sure she heard correctly.

"I said, If I allowed you to do that then I would be allowing you to break my Second Rule." He sounded so sweet. So soft and caring..

"F-First rule? What first rule?" She then for the first time turned and looked into a pair of eyes that could see her!

Before he could answer, she seemed to put two and two together, snapping out of it some what but the guilt not vanishing. "You really can see me, Felix?" She waved her hand and watched his eyes move to her hand, watching her.

The look on his face was that of an adult humoring a child.

"What rule?" She reminded him of her question, drawing away his attention from her obviously 'odd' behavior. She rubbed her nose a little, it itched....

She gasped and rubbed again before smiling, however down trodden she felt inside, she felt that!

Felix

He was smiling at her strange behaviour.

"You really can see me, Felix?" She waves her hand in front of him, watching his reaction. He just smiles.

"What rule?" The girl then asks, jumping from one subject to another even as she suddenly seems preoccupied by her nose.

"Well, " he says, "if I told you my Second Rule then I would be breaking my First Rule."

"Oh." She says, a hint of disappointment in her voice even as she shoving her index finger up her right nostral.

Who is she and where does she come from?

"Look. You can't be comfortable there. Do you want to sit on the settee?"...

Lissa

"Look. You can't be comfortable there. Do you want to sit on the settee?"... His eyes were kind, but she remembered the hatred in his face.

"What?... Oh.. Yeah." She slowly stood up, pushing against the wall to help her get upright. She felt a little tingly, woozey at the same time... much like she had drank too much.

"I've tried and tried for weeks.. and now you can see me.." She shook her head, more talking to herself than to him.

"I don't understand this.. I don't understand why.." She halted, he was going to think she was mad or worse! a stalker or something.

"Thank you." She turned and sat, smiling as best she could given the circumstances.

"You're very kind Felix." She accepted a kleenex from him and wiped away her tears.

She stopped amazed to see the kleenex was dry, but so was her face?

"I.." What would she say now? How could she explain her presense here? What if he tried to touch her? What would happen? Would he pass through her, or could he touch her but she feel nothing? Would she feel cold? It was unlikely he could touch her, she just did not see how that would be possible.. but then again, she could touch the walls, sit in a car.. she could feel through touching him...

She glanced around the cottage and shifted on the couch, could she make up some bullshit story? It would likely word, if she tried using amnesia as a scape goat...

And why wasn't he curious about her? How she knew his name, how she got into the cottage, and why she was in it? Did he not notice her ghostly appearence? She studied him as he studied her, he looking away before she did.

She shivered a little, she felt cold. Wrapping her arms around herself, she glanced around, hoping a clue, inspiration, something would hit her right now and help this situation along..

Felix

After helping to the sofa, Felix goes and sits in the chair opposite as he listens to her mumbling away.

Already things are not adding up.

How come she does know my name and what is this about 'I've tried for weeks and now you can see me'???

He quickly comes up with a conclusion.

It's one of Oscar's practical jokes!!

Oscar is one of the nurses he works with and is well known for pulling off elaborate pranks. The last time it had been done on him was when he and his wife...

Fuck you, Oscar. This is not funny! I'm suppose to be trying to forget, not... He feels his temper rising. But how did Oscar find out where I am? Liz!!!

Getting up abruptly, he angrily marches into the kitchen to where the phone is, picks it up and dials the hospital number.

"Hi, Fee. It's Felix." He says to the hospital receptionist. "Can I speak to Liz."

He waits until he hears Liz's voice on the other end of the phone.

"Felix? Hi. Enjoying your stay at the cabin?" She asks him.

"I'm trying to but you guys keep sending me practical jokes." He snaps.

"Jokes? I'm sorry, Felix, but I don't understand."

"Don't you now?" His anger causing his voice to rise, he looks over to the sofa and sees the girl staring at him, hearing. "First you send over Carly to 'cheer' me up and now you do this!"

"Felix, I really don't understand what you are talking about. Did Carly come over? Wait 'til I get my hands on her..."

"Oh don't give me that crap, Liz. You and Oscar know damn well that..."

This time Liz cuts him off.

"How dare you, Felix! Oscar and I haven't done anything. For fucking sake, I lent you the cabin to help you sort your life out - not to screw around with it! Now instead of shouting my head off over the phone, I suggest you do just that! GOODBYE!!!"

The phone line goes dead.

Shocked by Liz's outburst, Felix realises he has just made a terrible mistake...

Hearing the conversation, she pales slightly. His anger has risen up, and she remembers only too clear what he does when angry!

Slowly she rose from the couch, her eyes wide and staring as she watched him hang up the phone.

"N-no one sent m-me..." Her hands were nervously being twisted before her, her fear climbing a little. What would he do when he recognizes her?

She was torn between going to him and running from him. Maybe she would do better to leave him be for now? Perhaps show him? But how did she do this?

He could see her now, see all of her. Did she had the 'controls' to vanish? Could she reappear if she did? Her eyes dart around the small room, looking for somewhere to go, to hide.

He seems angry still but upset mostly. "I'm sorry Felix.. I did not mean to hurt you.. I've just been trying for so long to have someone hear me. Ever since the hospital.. when I woke up, but didn't..." She trailed off as he interrupted.

"Hospital?" maybe it was the way he said it, that tone in his voice.. but she flinched away from him and began to back away. A dark corner, maybe she could will herself not to be seen?

Closing her eyes, she tried to concentrate on vanishing. With her eyes closed she did not 'see' him coming towards her.

"Come on damn it! Fade out.. think ghostly thoughts.." She was speaking very low and softly to herself, her brows knitted in concentration, not meaning to be over heard.
