The Red Light Lounge

Nice!

Y'know, the unfortunate short length of modern songs is the primary reason I'm inclined to burn my own music collections. One can really sculpt an experience. And a CD is around 72 minutes, which is a damn fine start.

The 'repeat' function is also my friend. And I do in fact have...somewhere...a CD that has the Lush song Superblast recorded three times in succession. Four minutes, times three... if I'm alone, it's all good.

Learned the hard way about playing that one in the car, though...

Ooooh, a stereo remote with a repeat button is a dangerous thing in my hands. You have no idea....then again, you probably do. I have had this song, appropriately titled The Panties, run on a constant loop for upwards of an hour. It's so hypnotic.

I just remembered this song. Oh so hot to dance to and more. Love that slow beat!

I think this thread proves we are all incredibly horny humans! But personally I don't think I could fuck to the Partridge Family. Or the Archies. Or many others, but Smokey? Mmmm yes.

Horny, why yes, I believe we are. And apparently not shy about that fact, considering some of our discussions. Aaah, the passion of poets.
Smokey makes the best hold-me-tight-dance-close-etc. kinda grooves. Tres sexy.

I grew up with American Bandstand and Soul Train. So you know the music that was hot when you were a young'un coming up is what always gets to you, I think. :)

Here's one:

Putting this on and looking straight into your eyes is how I manage to lure you to the back room.

Or, in some cases, how you lure me there.

eta: bonus! it's 6:49! nice long song.

Songs to Hit on Politichicks With

  • Your riot grrrl types get off on Bikini Kill, but beware--there's like a better than 50% chance she'll wander off with the babe your wingman is hitting on instead of you. Use with caution.
  • Gang of Four can work well with cute Maoist Rev Guards who dig guys who dance like complete dorks.

    Personal experience. Just sayin'.
  • Green Party types should be vulnerable to RATM. It ought to work for Libertarian gals, too, but that remains to be tested.
  • The Internationale sometimes can snag your graciously aging Stalinlist devotchka, but hide your Shostakovich albums first.
  • For my generation, this was always a sure thing. Well, unless she voted for Nixon.

Makes sense, though I can't account for my affinity for this stuff. Most of it is older than I am. My parents weren't music buffs at all, so it wasn't played in my house. I got the bug independently of them. Now that I think about it, when I was a sophomore in high school, I had a photography class that was combined with juniors. This guy that I used to hang out with (a junior) always had all this old school music that he brought with him to school. We would swap music all the time. He turned me on to Al Green, The Isleys and a whole slew of other artists. I ran with it, been hooked ever since. And that's just the R&B stuff. :cattail:
I already loved music in general, but kind of warmed to older music across the board, after that.

What does it say about my politics that those would pretty much all work for me?

And sassy, if anyone asks about what's going on in the bistro, I'm going to tell them it's all your fault for starting this thread.

*my superpower is ducking responsibility*

Yep, I love it all, too. My dad grew up in an orphanage in NYC and was the recipient of numerous acts of "cultural largesse" by the wealthy New York Jewish community. Because of this he grew up loving opera, classical, jazz, you name it (dance and visual arts, too). So most of what I heard as a kid was classical and opera, but I got to hear a lot of it live in NYC, which was--as you know--amazing. I remember hearing Rhapsody in Blue for the first time. It felt transcendent. Classical but so American, so New York. And now I know, so jazzy. And of course when the Beatles came out I went wild with rock fever lol. In my first year of college I was involved with this guy who listened to jazz all night on the radio. A jazz station outta NYC. I was hooked; it was like what I loved most in every other kind of music (the bass, the blues rhythm, the progressive improvisiation solos) all came together in jazz. And I started studying it. :)

OOOOOHHHHH!!!

Look who's on top of ME!! :D

what a beautiful thread. all about fucking music. I have had a fucked up day and coming back here is the best thing in the fucking world. It seems that I am 45, yet still not allowed to be out past 6 pm. fuck him.

and about that Partridge Family, I believe I red-faced admittedly admitted to having a CD mix of random PF and metallica, a looong time ago, so It is nice to see I am not alone in the weirdness that is the PDnF.

Anyone have a link to Twilight Time languishing around in cyber space? I need those heavenly shades of night falling on me, along with this gorgeous hazel eyed man I met at a friends house tonight.

I think I love him... lol

Ange did better than I did. I thought the post said that she couldn't fuck the Partridge family.

I see what I want to see. I admit it.
If we are talking about the TV series, I will admit to having a jones for Shirley.

Wait. That doesn't quite compute. But I'm afraid that that means that I would, in fact, fuck at least part of the Partridge family. The old enough girl part, anyway. Even if that was just Mom.

But that was before Metallica so I'd have to settle for, I dunno, Black Sabbath maybe as background music. Or, if I was feeling kinky, maybe this.

I liked the kinky one. Go figure.

"The old enough girl part," is just about the cutest thing you have ever said.

I think this about sums up what's going on in the bistro today. ;)
Carry on, kinky poets.
