The Salsa lovers, world music thread

Are there sample sound tracks to download and listen to at this site for the music? There's a site I go to that I check out 'clips' of music from the album/cd's, and I find it a godsend of technology so as not to waste money.
I know I like listening to alot of different music...easy listening and rock have their place...but this stuff, I know I can deal with. I am not sure if it applies or not but Carlos Santana Supernatural CD has a couple pieces on their CD that I think would be good dance music for the dances you speak of.
I'd love to learn to dance and have a dance partner to enjoy it with as well.
Hello MissIntrigue
There are some sites that have samples of music......I will have to relocate them to get them for you. I know Descarga.com has editor comments for the many genre of latin music they carry......I found a site that had actual sound bytes I will get back to you on that one.
One of Carlos Santanas early hits was a remake of Tito Puente's Oyo como
Va. I know the Supernatural album has at least one cha cha cha.

Thank you- I'd appreciate you getting back to me on it! :D Maybe in this nothingness area I live in (for the time being anyway) I might be able to find a little niche for me....a dancer perhaps, or even pleasure in my (new) tunes....yea...:rose:

Oh yeah! I am hooked....I used to be a rock and roller then got into eighties music.....now it is pretty much all salsa and jazz.....
spoiled.:)

we spoil ourselves to the things we enjoy the most. We as humans now figure we are all going to die of some horrible strain of cholesterol or get cancer from coffee...etc so we find a little something to make us happy...if it's music- well that's a healthy addiction! I love music - I have some on most of the time. :)

Hot....hot...hot.....rhythm......
I recently got some new music and I was not disappointed......

Edwin Bonilla's "Pa' La Calle" Has some extraordinary stuff....the accompanying musicians are no less gifted as well.......the arrangements do justice to the song writers.....Track 4 written by Ray Barretto shines with lead Vocalist Jesus "El Nino" Alejandro and of course Edwin Bonilla's Congo and timbale playing.......Track 5 follows with a piece by Edwin which is on fire..........Ritmo Rico!.......This album reminds me of a night in Miami Beach at Cuban Pete's birthday party.....a live band scorching the soul engraving latin rhythm in my heart. Danced all night we did:)

My second purchase was no less a thrill....Raulin Rosendo's "De aqui Pa'lla"...........Filled with delightful rhythms.......Raulin;s husky voice shines...The last song alone makes it worth buying this album..........Some great dance tunes on this one.

I once again highly reccomend Edwin Bonilla's "Pa' La Calle"
after listening to this album for a month I am truly thrilled to have it in my collection.....every track is great on this album.....
If you are a precussion lover you will love it. All the singers are superb, great horn arrangements..........:)

The site I deal with has no clips, they do have editor reccomendations in which I have been using for most of my blind selections.......Edwin Bonilla was one of those.....had never heard of him and tried it as the editors rated it highly reccomended.....
I loved it, there was one in which I was disappointed that was reccomended.....which makes for about a 80% positive selection with their reccomendations........sometimes I find my expectations blind me to the music's quality and when I go back and listen to it it is like finding a hidden treasure.........

Finding the hidden treasure is all worth one trusting their own gut feeling too...:D

Almost anything by Afro-pop musician, Johnny Clegg is good.

My favorite by him (so far) is Jericho. Check out his website: www.johnnyclegg.com

Thanks Lorrie Flash,
I will be checking him out. Good music transcends borders and definition I believe and can be enjoyed by all. I have never heard anything by Johnny Clegg. :)

Reviving a old thread for new music......

This is one of the best dance compilations I have found for salsa/mambo.....incredible!

Conjunto Imagen's "Hoy, Ayer y Manana"
or "Ayer, Hoy y Manana" it is written both ways one on the side and one on the cover.

Fantastic tracks......Track number 3 is a salsa version of Neil Sedaka's "Breaking up is hard to do"......Great stuff....every track is danceable......:) :) :) :)

Label is Musiq Records

It has been a while........a new classic salsa album to praise....
Johnny Pacheco con Pete(Conde) Rodriguez in "La Perfecta Combinacion"

Song list is.......

1. La Esencia Del Guaguanco
2. Baila Vicente
3. Blanca
4. Como Cocina La Gorda
5. Sin Cana Y Sin Platanal
6. Sonero
7. Shalom Malecum
8. Mi Nuevo Amor
9. El Negro Panchon
10. Lo Anoro

Dusting off this thread as I have some excellent music to share............

More Edwin Bonilla......face it, all of this guys albums are fantastic!

Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca's album 'Ay Valeria' Ricardo is from the african Congo, grew up next to a bar frequented by Cuban soldiers part of the cold war influence.......Ricardo loved the latin music he heard drifting from that bar....
Jesus "Nino" Perez joins him on this album....any thing this musician/vocalist participates in is good I have so far found. He also worked with Edwin Bonilla on all of his albums.

Last and not least.......a magical album filled with wonderful music sung in his native tongue.... from Cameroon Africa, Richard Bona 'Scenes from my life' He is accompanied by excellent musicians. A great album that I am very happy to have in my collection of World music

Boncana - Best of Salsa

Out of Africa playing with some of the finest musicians in New York is Boncana Maiga......A strong taste of Cuban flavor with a nice dose of Charanga.......Yes! A great album! And of course one must dance! :nana: :) :)

El Cantante, Love it!
*hug* Hi kissinggurl. Here is another one for classic cuban....really good stuff. Ahora Si by Cachao produced by the actor Andy Garcia, another one that is good by the same artist is Cuba Linda . Cachao is Isreal Lopez from the old school....he and his brother were some of the originators of mambo way back. Even in his 80's Cachao is a prolific composer of latin music. An example how the muse will stay with us even into old age if we keep using it.
