The Xavier Institute For Higher Learning

The Study of Prof. X

Professor Xavier sat in his chair as he awaited his guest. Within moments he was led to his office.

"Hello Colonal. I apologize for not preparing a suitable welcome but I must say your presence is a surprise."

"I'll get over it. I didn't give notice cuz as far as I want the world to know I didn't come here. The SHIELD agents I brought are men I trust 100% and I left 'em on that damn ship for a reason. When I leave this Mansion Charles I don't want to know I came here. Do you know what I'm gettin' at?"

Professor Xavier scowls.

"I do not take affecting the minds of others lightly Col. Fury." he says.

"Me neither but this ain't no light matter. I'm talking WWIII here Xavier. America versus Genosha with Latveria backin' 'em. SHIELD and the Avengers against Dr. Doom and the House of M. And your X-Men and the rest of the mutant community will be stuck in the middle if we don't find some way to stop it."

"How does this affect my X-Men?"

"Cuz it involves a couple of 'em including your ol' pal Magneto."

Professor Xavier leans forward in his chair.

"I'm listening"

Cyclops

Cyclops shuddered. If Beast's theory was correct they may be getting ready to face one of the X-Men's oldest and most dangerous adversaries.

"Hank, you and Hellion have accepted the mission so you have to go. But are you still going to go with only you and Noctourne?"

"Sounds like this'll be fun." Wolverine said. "Hank, imma back you and TJ up, whether you like it or not." he said gruffly, "Im ready whenever you are bub,"

Hank sighed, 'Ok, myself, and Logan shall go, but Nocturne will stay here with Helion and lead the protection of the school. Helions powers are to unstable for this, and kurt would never forgive me if TJ got hurt. Plus Logan and I have experience with Apocalypse and can work well togethor.'

He looked at scott, and remembered the time when scott and apocalypse had become merged.

'Scott, you can either come with me and logan, or stay with the others, its up to you.'

TJ sighed, and got ready to argue. Then she noticed how the other members looked. Beast was concerned, Helion unsure, Scott looked...well bad, and even logan was looking abit aprehensive.

She bit her tongue, 'Fine i'll stop here, but only because Helion could do with some help.'

Cyclops

"Hmm. Normally I would remain behind. But if Apocalypse is involved we may soon not have a school to protect. I'm going with you guys. I'll ready the Blackbird." Scott says as he leaves the War Room

Hank nodded, 'Ok, elixer go prep the infirmary we may need it, logan, Helion, you're in charge here, TJ your second in command, i suggest the first things you do are to assemble you main guard force and get non-essential personel into somewhere safe. One of you should be in charge of comms as well.'

With that he nodded to them, with a starnge finality and headed out after Scott to the BlackBird.

"Im goin' to the hangar." Wolverine said as he walked out. "Skoll, you hear me son?" he said into his communicator, "Yes father." Skoll said in his deep powerful voice. "Keep your eyes open, keep an eye on the mansion, ive got business." "As you wish father." Skoll answered and the communication flicked out. "Bout time, its been awhile since i had a good scrap."

Specter

"Julian's gone?" Dallas Gibson asks.

"Das." the elfish looking X-Man named Nightcrawler says. "It appears he has traveled to the Danger Room at the request of Cyclops and the Professor."

"Oh." Specter replies unable to hide the disappointment in his voice. He had looked forward to telling Julian about the progress that he had made. But it seemed he received a far better compliment from the X-Men. Part of Dallas felt like it really wasn't fair. Julian didn't work harder than him and he certainly got into far more trouble. But just because of the particular set of powers he was born with Hellion was automatically the darling of the new mutants and enshrined as a future X-Man.

"Me?" Specter thinks to himself.

"All I am is a frickin' shadow." he thinks as he begins to sinks into the ground and melt into his shadow behind him.

The Rec Room

A gathered group of students play games while others watch television. A small group watching the news turns to the channel to a breaking news event.

"Health officials still have no theory as to the strange and mysterious disease crippling the country of pakistan. For weeks citizens of the country have been getting sick and health officials there are overwhelmed. The Center for Disease Control here in America along with health agencies from other countries have been called upon to help. However officials say they have no new clues as to the nature of this mysterious threat. Christian Amanpour reports."

"For weeks now, the Pakistani people have had to adjust to a new fear."

The screen shows a woman holding the wasted away body of a decrepit old man. His skin is horrifically wrinkled his hair has rotten to the point where it is a dirty gray color and falling out.

"My son! My son!" the forty year old mother says.

"The effects of the disease hide the tragedy of this death." the reporter continues. "This boy was only 18."

"Oh my God" some of the students gasp and cover their mouths at the ghastly sight.

"We went to visit his mother again four days later. Sadly, when we returned she too had succumb to the dark plague crippling this country. This is what Umm Uthman looked like when we visited her before."

A picture of a reasonably youthful and healthy woman of about 40 is shown. This is what she looked like only four days later.

The same woman is completely unrecognizable. Her wrinkled and blackened skin has many boils, scars and open tears her eyes are yellow and her head is shrunken. She looks like what a mummy looks like after the body has been decomposed and wrapped. Human death.

"Effects of this disease are not just local. Sadly, they have occurred all over Pakistan. Because of the unknown nature as to how this disease spreads or the cause health officials from various countries have been incredibly cautious about investigating this threat. A courageous team of scientists from Oxford University have pledged to risk their lives to discover the source of the disease that has ravaged this poor, unfortunate country. Christian Amanpour reporting, CNN News"

Warfly put his head in his hands, slightly shocked by the report.

'Oh my god.'

Rec Room

Feron was glad that his classes were over for the day. He knew he should probably be studying for finals, but he severely needed a break. Following the two-hour biochemistry lecture and the three-hour lab session, his brain had taken about all it could for one day. The class was interesting, and many of the lessons presented could be interpreted on a base level as how Feron and other mutants could learn to control their powers, but enough was enough and he needed a break.

He left the classroom wing and headed off to the rec room for a little pinball. Mindless entertainment always helped him relax and unwind. He passed Dallas in the hall, just as he was sinking into his own shadow, seemingly disappointed in something.

The rec room was more than active for this time of day, and several students were clustered around the large television on the far side of the room. There was a low murmur of voices as the images flashed on screen. With the crowd, Feron could not see what the fuss was all about. He floated over the refrigerator and pulled out a cold soda before heading off to see what had the other students so wound up. Figuring it would be easier to see from a higher vantage point than trying to push through the crowd, he levitated himself higher, hoping he could catch a glance over their heads.

He nearly spit the soda out over them when he saw the nearly mummified, but still barely living, figures on the screen.

“Holy Hell!” he shouted, almost instinctively recoiling at the horror. “What on Earth is that?” Several of the students gave him less than approving looks before they riveted their attention back to the screen. The news continued, broadcasting the horror for all to see. Feron had seen enough to know that there was a plague in a part of the world thousands of miles away and top scientists were working on it. Unless it was a mutant disturbance or some threat science couldn’t handle, it was unlikely that anyone he knew would ever get involved.

“Time to try and beat that high score Jubilee got on here the other day,” he said, pulling back the plunger and sending the first stainless-steel ball on it’s wild ride.

Warfly/Matt, turned and saw Feron enter the room and walked over to him, watching him play pinball.

'You know you're never gonna beat jube's high score feron.'

Chatting with Warfly

As he played, Warfly left the group and came over to the pinball machine.

“You know, you're never gonna beat Jube's high score, Feron,” he said, crossing his arms and watching the points on the lit board increase with each flip of the paddles.

Feron smirked. “I know, but maybe one of these day’s I’ll get lucky and run up the score enough to beat her.”

The machine clicked, tweeted and buzzed, but in the end, as his last ball fell between the paddles and into the hole, Feron fell short.

“Damn. Well, maybe next time.” He turned to face Matt, wondering how difficult it must be to live life not looking like a normal person. Feron could blend in easily if he chose by simply levitating closer to the ground and mimicking the motions of walking. For Matt to blend in, he would almost have to tie his wings to his back and cover them with a coat to pass as normal.

“Have they said anything more on the news about what’s going on in Pakistan? It’s kind of a weird deal with people just wasting away like that. And if it turns out not to be some new disease or something, you know they’re going to try to pin it on some mutant. If science can’t explain it in a week, it’s always got to be some mutant’s fault right?”

'Honestly that wouldn't surprise me if we got the blame.' Said Warfly his face sombre, 'I just can't help but wonder what it is, and now i'm bored, with nothing to do as i have no lessons this afternoon, and TJ and Dad are in the Danger Room.'

In The Rec Room

“I’m done for the day too. I really should be studying for my biochemistry and applied physics finals, but there’s just so much a brain can take in a day, right?”

He grabbed another soda and floated over the smaller television on the far side of the rec room. With the majority of the other students gathered around the big television watching the news, the smaller set was empty for once.

“Yeah, I’m going to get pretty bored this afternoon too. Julian was going to help me practice with my powers this afternoon out in the yard, but I heard he’s busy all afternoon. What’s her name? You know, that really cute little blonde with the telepathic powers? She sits right next to me in biochemistry, and she said that Julian got the nod over Logan for a team lead in that Danger Room exercise. Pretty sweet, right?

Warfly shrugged, 'I didn't know Justin got a team lead full stop, and as far who the blonde is, the only people I really talk to apart from the teachers is TJ, justin and You.'

Danger Room War Room

He felt the nudge from Nocturne. Then he heard the communicator beeping. He’d missed a communication. Damn.

“Sorry guys, I’ll try to tap into the satellite net again and see if I can find a way for you to get in there.”

He could see Nocturne in the reflection on the monitor. The look on her face showed that she was none too pleased with the lapse in concentration. Julian knew he was going to get another lecture when the scenario ended.

The Terracon-4 satellite, originally launched by the Minos Corporation for deep-earth scans to scout for prospective mining locations, was just about to pass over the site where the original transmission had originated. Perfect. A few patches, run Beast’s password hack program to gain access, and voila!

“Ok, I’ve got a satellite on-line and ready to scan. Give me a few minutes to get it dialed into your location and I’ll let you know where to go.”

The satellite gave a very broad view of the area. The Blackbird could be seen sitting on the dry lakebed and the small dots of Beast, Cyclops and Wolverine could be seen several hundred yards away. The massive shadow of the complex was almost directly below them and stretched out for what seemed like an eternity, or at least the edge of the satellite’s monitoring capabilities on this pass. The satellite identified several of the minerals and metals used for the construction and their quantities, followed by several possible locations to set up drilling locations, tailing piles and processing facilities. The satellite was doing its job, but it was very annoying to keep having to close the various screens that kept appearing recommending mining locations.

And he almost missed it.

“Hold on, I may have something.”

Before the satellite moved out of range, Julian zoomed on a rock outcropping roughly a half-mile to the south of where the three were standing. All the rocks around it were tagged by the satellite as Ferrous/Cupric Amalgam (Sub. 2.84-3), but one set of rocks, with a much smaller tag, came up as Steel/Adamantium Alloy (Non-Harvestable).

“Ok, there’s an outcropping of rocks about a half-mile to the south, mostly iron, so they’ll be reddish in color. About 200 yards from the eastern edge, there’s a hatch. Give or take, 5 meters wide, 3 meters tall, made of an Adamantium and steel alloy. God, I love this mining satellite.”

The Study of Professor X

"So Colonel, I'm listening." Professor X says.

"What business with Magneto involves my X-Men?"

"A couple months now we’ve been gettin’ all kinda reports from sentinel processing plants around the country. Even the ones not in use anymore. Strange things have been happenin’.

"Strange things? Such as?"

"Computers going off when they shouldn’t. Workers missing then coming back not knowing they’ve been missing, or for how long or why. Our internal investigations teams tracked em for a while before the same thing started happening to them. Psychic division couldn’t do anything to figure out what the hell was happening and as much as the higher ups hate to admit it we’re stuck. We're talking national defense. We ain't exactly running a burger and fries operation here. A scientist that knows how to construct a 100 foot robot isn’t ‘xactly a dime a dozen these days."

"But how does this involve Magneto and my X-Men?"

"We didn’t realize it did until recently. That's when we got hit."

Nick Fury pulls out an object that looks like a rubix cube. Suddenly light emerges from it and a 3D hologram begins to emerge. One sequence shows Magneto flying through a facility at high speeds and pinning workers against the wall with his magnetic powers. Another image shows Scarlett Witch using her powers and workers suddenly complain their psi dampeners aren’t working. The mutant named Exodus swoops down and loudly proclaims “Sleep.” as hordes of employees throughout the complex suddenly fall. The former X-Man Polaris is seen next firing electromagnetic pulses into an army of offline sentinels assembled in long lines and columns. Another image shows a constant silver blur moving throughout the database storage area of the facility. Another part of the rubix cube broadcasts an image showing Mortimer Toybee AKA the Toad at a master computer console inputing commands.

Finally all the rubix cube screens combine. The mutants have gathered together. Polaris releases a magnetic pulse that travels into every computer in the facility while Magneto manipulates it and then redirects it inside of every sentinel. Toad types into a remote control device which he hands to Quicksilver who quickly zaps every sentinel in the facility with it. Scarlett Witch grows bright crimson as she exerts herself using her powers as Exodus does the same.

Suddenly they all stop. Magneto, Polaris, Scarlett Witch and Exodus fall to the ground obviously drained.

The eyes of every Sentinel light up and they come online. They speak in cohesion.

”Mutantkind must be destroy-zzzzz! Des-zzzzz!” they say as the lights in their eyes go off then come back on.

”Mutantkind... must be protected.” the sentinels boom.

The screen shows the gathered mutants smiling and rejoicing.

Magik entering the mansion

A blonde figure pushed open the door of the mansion with a heavy sigh. Illyana Rasputin, or as others knew her, Magik, was exhausted. Limbo had been busy lately and she had been running around her domain like a chicken with its head cut off. She sighed again and slowly made her way further into the mansion she called home. "Hello?" She called out, her thick Russian accent almost immediately identifying her to anyone who heard and knew her. "Where is everyone?" A sudden rush of worry filled her body and she moved a bit quicker into the vast house and went straight for the rec room. Maybe people were there...

Warfly, turned and exited the rec room, and almost immediatly bumped into a young girl.

'oh, hi, you're peter's sister right?'

NiteCrowe said:

Illyana nodded and smiled up at the young man. "Yes, I am." She took a step to the right and peeked into the room. "What's going on in there? Why does everyone look upset?"

Warfly followed her gaze and looked into the room.

'OO that, hmm, perhaps you should go see.'

He turned and led her in.

'I'm Matthew McCoy by the way, thought i prefer either Matt or Warfly' he said showing her wings.
