Its not at all difficult to say. In fact, there have been numerous studies that state point blank that there is a major disparity in not only arrests, but sentences handed down to people based on race. Black people are more likely to be arrested for a particular crime than a white person is, and are more likely to be handed a much stiffer sentence than if they were white.

So how about showing us one of this vast multitude of studies? Studies by whom? Media Matters or some such?

Well the one I linked was the Wall Street Journal. Which is a typically a very conservatively leaning paper. I picked it, because it was a source that usually leans that way... There are many other studies from many groups that are less conservative generally than the WSJ, and as such would likely be rejected.

There are enough studies that show the same thing, to make it pretty clear that there's more than just blowing smoke here.

What I was saying is that as far as the principle goes. I don't know if Black people are being punished more than they should for the crimes that are committed or if White people are being punished less than they should be. It's probably somewhere in between in reality varying by judge and state or what-not. True equality would require fixing both issues, provided that both of those are contributing factors.

Except that's not a real question. America's majority is white therefore whites are not and by definition cannot bye under or over punished. They set the baseline. Anybody being punished more are being over punished and anybody being punished less are being under punished.

Arrest data show a striking trend: arrests of blacks have fallen for violent and property crimes, but soared for drug related crimes. As of 2011, drug crimes comprised 14 percent of all arrests and a miscellaneous category that includes “drug paraphernalia” possession comprised an additional 31 percent of all arrests. Just 6 percent and 14 percent of arrests were for violent and property crimes, respectively.

Even more surprising is what gets left out of the chart: Blacks are far more likely to be arrested for selling or possessing drugs than whites, even though whites use drugs at the same rate. And whites are actually more likely to sell drugs:

Whites were about 45 percent more likely than blacks to sell drugs in 1980, according to an analysis of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth by economist Robert Fairlie. This was consistent with a 1989 survey of youth in Boston. My own analysis of data from the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that 6.6 percent of white adolescents and young adults (aged 12 to 25) sold drugs, compared to just 5.0 percent of blacks (a 32 percent difference).

This partly reflects racial differences in the drug markets in black and white communities. In poor black neighborhoods, drugs tend to be sold outdoors, in the open. In white neighborhoods, by contrast, drug transactions typically happen indoors, often between friends and acquaintances. If you sell drugs outside, you're much more likely to get caught.

Because blacks are so characteristically criminal, anything that puts more of them in prison reduces the crime rate.

Most crimes are not solved. Many crimes are not reported. For every black "non violent drug offender" in prison who never committed violent crimes I am sure that there are many other black drug offenders who are guilty of violent crimes they were never arrested for.

This is an interesting quote.. Seems pretty common sense to me.. If you don't want to have the cops all up in your business, especially if it is illegal business, don't make it a public spectacle. Cops, especially the average street cop, isn't going to delve too deeply into the whole thing, that is the job for detectives, street cops go after the low hanging fruit. Which in this case are those that are stupid enough to do their business in public view.
