THIS is "oppression" and "discrimination."

A lot of the times, I really don't even believe in marriage. That's part of why I'm not as passionate as others about same-sex marriage.

I am not passionate about it for myself.

I am passionate about it for people who are passionate about it for themselves.

That's understandable, especially since those couples cannot get the same couple rights as heterosexuals unless they are in a state/country that allows it.

But you see that's the difference.

For example take FDR. He got elected partly due to support from black votes who withdrew their support from the Rethugliklans and put it behind him. In return he pretty much sold them down the river (again) in exchange for southern votes for his New Deal. He used them, but never really cared cuz he had no vested interest in doing so.

On the other hand was his wife, Eleanor. She FOUGHT her whole life for civil rights and equality. She was the first second wave'r, FFS. Why did she fight so hard (often in conflict with her hubby)? Because she experienced the oppression and discrimination that women of that era did AND she freakin raised hell about it.

So I guess what I'm saying is some people talk the talk and others walk the walk because the HAVE that vested interest. Those who only give a shut about themselves and people's opinions of them mostly "don't care".
