I have a title that is exactly 29 characters long for my series. The series will only have four chapters, so the following would work perfectly well:

Series title: My dummy 29 word series title
Chapter Titles, 35 characters:
My dummy 29 word series title Ch. 1
...
My dummy 29 word series title Ch. 4

However, I worry that's not how it works, and that the site adds characters like this:

My dummy 29 word series title Ch. 1. (36 characters)
My dummy 29 word series title Ch. 01. (37 characters)

So, is this going to cause a problem? Or will it be ok as long as I put the correct, 35 character title in the title box?

Any help much appreciated!

Put a Note to the Editor with your submission. Laurel has the ability to stretch the Title field length.

She defaults to 01, I suspect, because she probably gets many edit requests from people wanting more than nine chapters, who don't know how the auto-sequencing system works - who haven't added the leading zero.

I'm gonna try this. But I fear that if it's not automatically granted, I will be stuck since I'm new-ish.

Go manual, then you have control.
That's what she said, but then what's the point?

You should be okay. Use the title you want, up to the point it gets truncated, then put the rest of it in the Note to the Editor, showing your preference. I'd stick with 01, as that's pretty much the default when it comes to chapter numbers. And let Laurel decide on the full stops and character spaces - I think she standardises that too (but I'm too lazy to go check in my story list to find out).

The only story I had trouble with this wasn't part of a numbered series. It was "The Long Pull: O Come Like Ol' Faithful" and "The Long Pull: Hand Picked Dark Roast" The 'the's' had to be left off for length, but that also sorts those out of the series alphabetically, since the other titles that start with The get sorted into the T's.
