To Much Hate | Do, Say or show something nice

This may not provide any striking images, but was something I did today on spur of the moment for somebody I judged to be in need. The neighbor lady across the street is 82 years old, has a husband in a nursing home, and mentioned to me that she wouldn't have a Christmas tree this year since she both couldn't afford it or couldn't get one home if she did get one. She visits her husband every morning at the care facility, so I went to a local U-Cut Christmas tree farm right after she left, cut a fresh 6 foot Douglas fir for her, brought it back here and mounted it to a spare Christmas tree stand I had gathering dust in the garage. She got home, found the tree in the stand (blocking her front door...LOL), with an anonymous note saying 'Have A Merry Christmas' clipped to one of the branches. She now has it decorated and sitting in her living room in front of her picture window...that made me smile and think it is helping her a bit, too. The money doesn't mean that much to me, but I will have to say that is the BEST 15 bucks that I ever spent!

Merry Christmas AA........you have truly shown us all the very meaning of what this Holiday is all about!!!

Woodmeister.....you've got yourself a winner in this thread, my friend. It is indeed a wonderful getaway from the bullshit that , at times, plagues this place. I have been lurking for sometime now...and decided it was time to step in and Thank you for a nice place to visit. The words spoken by alot of these people have definately wormed thier way into my head...and my heart. They make an awful lot os sense. Thanks Hon....:rose:

AA this doesn't sound like the act of a Christmas Cynic, it sounds like what the true meaning of Christmas is all about...very thoughtful and loving to a neighbor.

Woody, just found your thread and love it! What a wonderful idea!!

Hi sassy and I hope now and then you find a moment to stop by :)

I doth believe that this belongs on the front page so a *bump* I give it to move it there.

Well thank you sir and I wish the fleashy orbs of a thousand fair ladies upon you (location of your choice)

And the image you posted is outstanding

As for your rambles as you called it, not so. I can become pretty blackhearted this time of year and while I might not take heed to all the spirited aspect of it's meaning, your story along with AA helps remind me that there is some good out there if only we'd all alow it to happen daily.
Feel free to tell a tale and know we're hear to listen and enjoy it along with you.

All I can say is wow! I'm truly honored but must admit a gentle nudge was presented by a very special lady to get this going.

Your so right, the BS of some on Lit gets old so fast and is so not important. All one can presume is their lives are so empty that they have but their own words to impress themself with the vile comments and attitudes put upon others. Enough of that eh..

I look forward to seeing you visit again :rose:

Hello Fair One, it has been a long time since we talked. We really enjoyed it best four years, other than the war and spending a lot of time in Rihad, Saudi Arabia and then Kuwwait. Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Proven Comfort. Did you buy any handmade carpets over there?

Hand out?

I wanted you great people to know of a simple thing we did when I was a child, that stuck with me forever. We were very poor when my dad left us, mom had never worked and was now supporting seven kids. She did her best with us.

One Christmas we got new blankets and pillows, we couldn't wait to toss the old ones. My mom suggested we give them to somebody who might need them and piled us into the car.

The charity we went to said they couldn't use the bedding, because they only accepted "gently used" or "new" items.

Mom was very upset by this. She said that people who have nothing would rather have something.

So we took a ride all over the city's downtown area. Everytime we saw a homeless person or obvious candidate, we offered them blankets.

In no time they were gone, and we really felt like a million then.

This is one family that never had anything to give before and it was so easy!

We found ways to help after that, whether singing at the old folks home or serving in the soup kitchen.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Man In The Glass

Even in my wildest times, I know I have one person to answer to on this earth:
Me.

I hope this will inspire you to the same conclusion:
(printed on an old square mirror, chips, scratches, and all)

:rose:

The Man In The Glass...
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day

Just go to a mirror and look at yourself And see what that man has to say

For it isn't your parents, your children, or wife
Who judgment upon you must pass

The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass

Some people may think you a straight - shooting chum

And call you a wonderful guy
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest
For he's with you clear up to the end

And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life
And get pats on your back as you pass

But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

that's wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

{{{Woody}}} I thought you would like to see these
tributes

You do remember that's one of my favorite images *smiles*

I think the key point is to do a charitable act if you feel the need, but don't expect ANYTHING in return. If I can smile after the deed is done (and hopefully the receipient, too), then that gives me the greatest satisfaction. (Hence, that is why I prefer the anonymous way of doing it.) I sometimes wonder why it is that the holidays prompt this outpouring of love and charity, when it can be used 24/7/365...i.e., every day and ALL the time. OK--back off my holiday soapbox for now....have a great day, all!

Seeing the hate in everyday life gets old but seeing it here on the threads, just really stupid, so while there has been others, and I even had one once myself, feel free to leave a nice word, caring or loving thought, maybe a nice image for anyone or a certain someone.
Nothing wrong with helping someone smile and letting them know their special, even here at Lit

{{{{{Woody}}}}}

Long time no see my friend, I hope all is well for you!!!

Whatever the reason for the outpour; some do live this way 24/7/365! All it take s is for us to remember how good it feels.

We're all into feelin' good now ain't we?

;)
