With a mother who ran London's famed Lee Strasberg drama school -- and being the sort of knockout blonde beauty adored by the cameras -- it was not surprising that Sienna Miller eventually gravitated to an acting career. Born in New York to an American banker father and a mother who was always associated with the arts, young Miller received her primary education at the Heathfield School in Ascot, Surrey, before pursuing acting at New York's Lee Strasberg Institute.

If... who what why where when

If you had an image that epitomises summer (apart from the weather) what would it be?

For me... playing rolly polly on the grass in my youth :)

Catching fireflies at night with my friends. The warmth of the day still lingering in the evening air. Grown-ups sitting outside chatting as we chased the flickering lights of the fireflies. :rose:

Until about 4 years ago, it was watching the meteor shower, reading a book outside or wandering downtown, watching the buskers perform. But now, it's sitting on the roof with some friends on a hot late August night, with a couple of beers, music playing quietly, talking about anything and everything, laughing. It was so still, that everyone just moved slowly, that it was hard to take a breath of air, the lights spilling onto the roof.... a great summer night.

Oh YES! those salad days in the park with a group of friends knelt around a sacrament of picnic food and talking idly about anything and everything interspersed with the odd kiss :)

Research on manual dish washing done at Ohio State University shows that food left on dishes after washing can harbor bacteria. But lipstick left on glasses seemed to have "antimicrobial properties."

Some other findings for your dining pleasure:

• Fork prongs are especially dangerous because they can protect old food particles and thus bacteria.

• Dried milk in glasses grew the most bacteria. But they don't understand why milk sticks to glass so successfully.

• Wash dishes before the food dries.

The purpose of the research was to test restaurant dish-washing procedures as unclean utensils or dishes can lead to food poisoning. One final finding: scalding hot water was not as crucial as soaking the dishes in ammonia-based sanitizers after they were washed.

Bon appetit.

Table knives were introduced circa 1600; until then, individuals brought to the table their own knives, which served also as daggers.

The best knives are forged from high-carbon steel. Cheaper grades are beveled from steel bars thick in the center and tapering toward the edges or are stamped from sheets of metal. In hollow-ground blades, the sides are concave. For stainless blades, the steel is usually partly replaced by, or coated with, chromium.

The pocket knife, with the blade folding into the handle, was invented around 1600.
