If you were think of things that are quintessentially American what would they be?
That just goes to prove that we are never too old to learnWhat a lovely day. I just found out a fact that never accorded to me. There are 200 different kinds of chillie peppers in the world. And not one of them are a pepper.
- Graduation Day from school (in UK we don't have the same pomp and circumstance)
- Enormously fat people (these people are so obese they need buggies to allow them to move around, if we have them in the UK then we are too embarrassed to let them out in public)
- Adverts on TV (relentless!)
- Country and Western, Soul music

OK, so why aren't they peppers?
Gaia, I have enjoyed your thread for quite a while, now, and I like a lot of the trivia that has been posted. Tonite, when I logged on, I found this entry. My question is, is this the majority opinion of people in the United Kingdom, or is it your own prejudice? To be frank, I am a large person. I always have been. I am happy with myself, mostly because I am reasonably healthy, strong as an ox, blessed with a job I like, which pays me well, and surrounded by good friends and family. If my size were the only criteria for social interaction, I wouldn't have any of that, by your standard. Thank you for illuminating me.

I can't apoogize enough. It seems I fell for the "bloke down the pub" thing. On "proper"
research I find out that what the "bloke down pub" was trying to say was that chili peppers(Capsicum) are not related to pepper(Piper) the ground up spice
Where I was under a totally different impression.

Thanks for the clarification hon![]()
