Trump (dishonestly) blames Newsom for LA fire

Remember when Trump said they need to clean the forest floor, hahahhahhahah too funny...... because when the fires are not burning my state down, the forest fire fighters are out in our mountains.....cleaning the forest floor. They make it look really nice, rake the forest floor, into piles and control burn those piles. A lot of this falls on the clueless save the planet idiots. Let the loggers log.
oh is that right?

According to the good folks at Wikipedia, raking and burning piles is seldom used outside of commercial logging operations, because raking detrius into piles creates higher temperature bonfires, which permanently damages the soil below.

But hai, you're the expert here, right?

"This is not normal" indeed.

Trump blames Biden and California Gov. Gavin Newsom for deadly wildfires

President-elect Donald Trump blamed President Joe Biden and California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday for the wildfires raging in Los Angeles that have killed at least five people and forced tens of thousands to evacuate their homes.

“Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way," Trump wrote in one of several posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He added that Newsom "wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!), but didn’t care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this. On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!”

In a statement in response, Newsom's director of communications, Izzy Gardon, accused Trump of "playing politics" while the wildfires continued to wreak havoc in Southern California.

"There is no such document as the water restoration declaration – that is pure fiction. The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need," Gardon said.
Trump blames everyone else for problems he creates by omission or commission.

Fact-checking criticism of California Democrats over fires

MAGAs will always deny reality, but it’s nice for the rest of us to have factual information.
I think most posters on the Political Board are more "immune" to the blatherings of the radical right wing blaming crisis after crisis on their political opponents, given the lengthy history of both AJ (currently d/b/a as AceDesSpades) and Vetteman (currently d/b/a Rightguide) of reflexively doing this for literally decades.

Situational Native American AJ in particular has been beating this particular war-drum for a quarter century now
AJ: FIRE BAD!
Me: Well, yes, fire can be destructive. It can also be used to benefit mankind..
AJ: FIRE BAD!
Me: Now see here, fire is used for things like cooking, welding, indoor heating...
AJ: FIRE CLINTON'S FAULT!

The only thing that changes is the name of the previous Democratic president.

"refusing to clean the forest" implies that forests are "dirty" somehow.

News flash: Forests are not, and have never been, "dirty".

Dead and decaying plant matter on the forest floor has been recognized as a key component of a healthy, diverse ecosystem for decades now.

I recall visiting Yellowstone National Park in the late 1990s, one year after a devastating wildfire. The National Park Service did absolutely NOTHING to "clean the forest", before the wildfire or after the wildfire. Fire is simply part of the "circle of life" and it took about 20 years but the forest came back healthier than ever.

So, in summary, fuck your boomer "clean teh forest" oversimplifications.
So your answer is to do noting in California and Los Angels and in twenty years all will be better, right?

Joe Scarborough Says Gruesome Newsom’s “Complete Failure of Government” Allowed for the L.A. “Hellscape”

By Nicole Silverio, Daily Caller News Foundation • Jan. 10, 2025

(DCNF)—MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said the “complete failure of government” in California allowed for the destruction of residences and communities by the five wildfires that set ablaze in areas of Los Angeles.

The city lacked the budget to adequately fill fire hydrants which allowed for the destruction of thousands of homes and the deaths of at least 10 people. Scarborough said it is still unknown what has caused Newsom’s administration’s “complete failure” to protect Californians’ homes and livelihoods, and argued that the lack of readiness by state governments to properly handle natural disasters has been a recurring phenomenon for several years.

“Happy Friday, if we can even say that with just the hellscape that is Los Angeles … We don’t know the exact causes for the complete failure of government to be able to protect these homes, I don’t think we can say it’s the smelt alone,” Scarborough said. “We don’t know what it is. But I do think it is going to be like Hurricane Katrina. I mean, the infrastructure has been slashed. You can’t just say it’s [Los Angeles Mayor] Karen Bass, you can’t just say it’s Gavin Newsom. This has been a trend for 30 years. Infrastructure has been slashed across America and you do have climate change, so you have wildfires sweeping into urban areas. They’re kind of like fighting the last war.”

How a ‘warrior’ brain surgeon saved his Malibu street from wildfires and looters

Chester Griffiths led his son and his neighbour in a marathon stand-off against the flames and criminals under a hail of burning debris

Chester Griffiths finished performing brain surgery, climbed into his car and drove across Los Angeles to save his beachfront Malibu home from the wildfires raging around the city.

It was a scenario the 62-year-old had been preparing for for years: he had done the training, sourced the fire hoses, and briefed his son and next-door neighbour about the course of action.

Now was the time to put it into practice.

What followed was a daring mission that saw the three men confront the worst inferno in the city’s history to successfully protect six homes in their picturesque cul-de-sac, while houses around them crumbled into a mess of ash and rubble.

As the Pacific Palisades fire worsened, swallowing up thousands of homes and leaving trails of smouldering ruins across thousands of acres, the men refused to back down.

Strangely I don't recall the same MAGA-outrage over government when it was Trump not taking action when New Orleans was being hurricaned.

Gov. Gavin Newsom slams Trump's disinformation about California wildfires.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted President-elect Donald Trump’s response to the California wildfires in an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” recorded Saturday, saying, “Mis- and disinformation I don’t think advantages or aids any of us.”

Newsom appeared to be referring to Trumps posts on Truth Social blasting Newsom, President Joe Biden and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass since the fires broke out Tuesday.

In one post, the president-elect baselessly claimed Newsom had blocked a measure that would have allowed water to flow from Northern California to Southern California.

“Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way,” Trump wrote, using an insulting nickname for Newsom.

In that post, Trump added that Newsom “wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!)” and “he is the blame for this.”

“Responding to Donald Trump’s insults, we would spend another month,” Newsom told NBC News’ Jacob Soboroff. “I’m very familiar with them. Every elected official that he disagrees with is very familiar with them.”

He added that Trump was “somehow connecting the delta smelt to this fire, which is inexcusable because it’s inaccurate. Also, incomprehensible to anyone that understands water policy in the state.”

California needed to bring back logging about 40 years ago to manage the fuel in the wild.

PG&E can't abate vegetation along their power distribution paths unless an EIR is filed each time. Thats why they're trying to excavate and bury power lines, which is stupidly expensive, and an idiotic approach in earthquake country (where PG&E operates in NorCal).

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't PG&E in bankruptcy due to a fire caused by power lines not brush cleared because of delays in the issuance of EIR's? And now they're burying the power lines while not being able to increase generating capacity to meet demands?
