It definitely would have been a more interesting matchup I would have loved to have seen those debates. Bernie would have gotten somewhat wonkish and he's far too honest and would have said things that would have been fairly unpalatable to a center- right country and Trump would have done with Trump dies which is flail wildly with all kinds of hyperbole and very little substance.

Bernie saying I'm going to Triple down on the ACA which sent the Democrats Into the Wilderness for years AND raise taxes on the middle class during a still anemic recovery powered by the miracle that is the green energy economy probably would not have sold very well.

This has become conventional wisdom in the last 3 years, and it just isn't true. She spent a ton of time in both Pennsylvania and Florida, and lost both by about a percentage point. The only states she appeared in on the final day of Campaign 2016 were Pennsylvania, Michigan, and North Carolina.

It isn't "conventional wisdom" it is as hard a science as political science gets with the benefit of hindsight. The DNC was never going to see another dime from the big money donors that they screwed on the HRC campaign if they didn't show in very clear and unambiguous terms why it is she lost exactly, and that's exactly why she lost. They spent millions of dollars studying this.

Where candidates physically hold a rally is a nod to the people of that State but it has little to do with whether a candidate will capture that State. Ad buys, correct messaging in micro-targeted mailings and whether the campaign appeals to that particular subset of the electorate matters far more.

Hillary was either a lazy campaigner or unfit based on the number of personal appearances.

She ignored the rust-belt, both in money and personal appearences.

Florida is generally a toss-up. She had lots of other paths to win spending a time in California on the votes of Cal8fornians and their illegal aliens wasn't one of them. It help build the narrative that she was kicking ass in (meaningless) national polling which has only limited utility in getting sheeple in important states to "back a winner" using the bandwagon propaganda technique. They oversold that nonsense with push-polling and vilifying Trump supporters which had the 3ffect of them being undercounted. This backfired spectacularly because plenty of people didn't bother to vote because they assumed Hillary would win regardless.

"Deplorables" killed her in Pennsylvania.

If you want to randomly speculate it would be a much better speculation that this was Obama's first presidential loss. It was the first time the voters were allowed to vote in a presidential election against his failed policies without having to fire the black guy. They consistently voted against his policies in the midterm elections and they even somewhat voted against his policies on down ballot choices when he was on the ballot as well.

On economic numbers alone Obama should not have been re-elected so it's perfectly reasonable that the electorate was not going to afford him a third term with Hillary as a stand-in.

Now, on the strength of the Trump economy conveniently re-written as a continuation of the Obama economy even though all of his policies were reversed I could see the electorate waxing nostalgic for a Biden presidency as a continuation of the myth of the Obama economy That Never Was.
