UK General Election 4th July

A good politician can uplift and make one think the sky's the limit.

Po little rishi just made a laughing stock of himself telling the uk electorate of the sacrifices his parents made to educate him, no sky tv.

Winchester school presently charges £49,152 pa.

Hopefully the sands of time are ebbing away for rightist governance, despicable and ineffective here in the uk, worldwide.
They have nothing positive to offer anyone but their own dwindling intolerant demographic.
Umm, you saw the EU vote?

An interesting series from ABC (Australia) about Who Broke Britain?

This part focuses on the Conservative Party’s austerity program. It has dragged down the UK over the 14 years the Conservatives have been in power, and it is exactly what the Republicans want to replicate in the US.

Gripping stuff.

I found two more in the series and they were equally intense.

I look forward to seeing the concluding episode.

👍

Unfortunately the Conservatives had to introduce measures to recover from the disastrous policies of the Brown government (don't bother checking, there's no money left).

The austerity years are long gone though.

The austerity years are long gone though.

No, apparently still in full force by the hapless Tories.

Second austerity period (2021-present)

Rishi Sunak became prime minister after Truss stepped down and quickly announced that a new budget would be forthcoming, with "difficult decisions" made. The government faced higher borrowing costs due to market fallout after the mini-budget and the collapse of the Truss ministry. His plans drew warning from Olivier de Schutter, the UN poverty envoy, who stated that the coming wave of austerity "could violate the UK’s international human rights obligations and increase hunger and malnutrition."[61] Sunak's tax rises, alongside major cuts, were referred to as "embracing austerity" by Time.[62] By the time of the 2023 Spring Statement, Britain faced the largest two year decline in living standards since records began in the 1950s, due to persistent inflation, fiscal drag, and taxation at a post-war record high. Further cuts to departments outside of defence and health were planned for the following five years.

Hoping for a return to ‘great’ for Great Britain.

Unfortunately, America (you as well, France) does not now have the opportunity to suffer through 14 years of austerity, a parade of terrible leaders and a lack of constituent helping ideas in order to oust seditious and incompetent politicians and judges.

An accurate and amusing article on general elections in the UK for our American brothers and sisters.

Farage is certainly a Trumpian-level bullshit peddler. It’s disturbing that after the disaster of Brexit, that knob still has supporters.

The Tory leader has been fawning over U.S. tech execs in office, and already owns a swanky house in California — so don’t be surprised if he crops up in Silicon Valley after an election defeat. Lucky you!

Biden ought to declare Sunak a menace to society and ban him from the US.

The Tories are dead! Suicide by Brexit.

That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it. They had that election handed to them by Farage, they had Brexit nailed, and all they had to do was deliver on the economy, putting a stop to the illegals flooding in and start mass deportations of the millions already there - a no brainer and they blew it. And then they picked Sunak as PM. The Conservatives Party deserved to die. Next elections will be Reform.

200 seat majority for Labour. Let's see what Starmer does with it.

Good to see the Lib Dems bouncing back. The Reform vote is a bit terrifying.
