Stratford upon Avon's quite central, and not a huge distance from Manchester
And pretty damn close to me too, so whilst i just have not the time to organise things (the wedding, mostly) I would be more than happy to do some research into hotels, things to do, restaurants and the like. Just lemme know

OK... have read the rest of the thread now and apparently Stratford isn't so popular.
Well, Brum ain't that exciting, but I can testify that the countryside between Brum and Stratford is stunning - v. 'English' if you follow... So it's a good area to be in.
I would imagine, what with it being a tourist trap, that Stratford is well served by public transport... There are alternatives though. If people like countryside then Kenilworth is cute, nice castle, great tea shop (seriously) and has the excellent travel connections of Coventry very close by...
Um... Where else? Warwick I suppose, but can't testify to the transport to there either, as I've only ever driven.
Ask me when I've eaten dinner and I might be able to give you a more sensible answer!

I'm up for it.
I'd definitely prefer a countryside location.
Somewhere central, Stratford sounds good if we can find some reasonable B&B's either in town or around. Late September also sounds good.

I don't think I could make anything in September, I have a family holiday in August and a mini-break with my mum in december &Christmas...I don't think I can put money by for a meet, well, realistically this year but if that counts me out, no worries, I'll be up for the next one
Location wise, I can get to stratford upon Avon for £20 return on the coach, so that's not too bad. it would depend on B&B price and what we plan to do whilst there.

Well, just off the top of my head, we'd probably have to go to a play, wouldn;t we? There's a couple of Stately homes nearby, some lovely walks, a castle or two and I can ask around about nice pubs/restaurants etc...
There's also some nightlife not too far away if the more lively members would like that.

Stratford itself has plenty of tourist stuff, if no-one's been there. There's all the Shakespeare history........plus there's those wonderful floating restaurants on the river, plus the added bonus of maybe hiring boats to row (I don't know if they do that, I seem to remember it being possible). And yes, you're right the countryside in that part of UK is beautiful. Stately home plus gardens, lovely. Walks, beautiful, but just remember, some of us aren't so young any more, have duff knees, hips and a spasmodic back. It would have to be flatish for me to cope.

This one sounds really good, it seems to have enough accommodation to take everyone of us who goes there. The only proviso I think, is some of us would have to have cars to transport the others. If it gets off the ground I will, of course, be driving, and depending on whether the wife decides to come or not, I will have 2 or 3 places to pick up and transport other people.

I'm sold! Only thing is, is everyone planning on behaving themselves? Because when you're staying at small family-run places like that it's embarrassing if someone gets beered up and loud and trashes the joint or throws up over the floor, or starts having screaming orgasms in the early hours.
I don't think anyone who's expressed interest so far would do that kind of thing, but still...

I'm happy to pick someone up on the way, or do an airport run, but it has to be a small person without much luggage, because I've got a two-seater with no boot.

I have a car and could maybe do some transporting, as long as someone else navigates. I find it very stressful driving places I don't know!
Something tells me the UK litogether is going to be a slightly more sedate affair than the Chicago one, huh?
