Using withdrawal + spermicide foam?

Neither withdrawal nor spermicide is very effective alone - each has around a 20-30% failure rate with typical use. I'm not sure how much the efficacy increases when they're used together, but I certainly wouldn't bet on them for birth control for myself. Planned Parenthood might be able to give you an estimate of how effective both are compared to other methods.

If you do try spermicide, have non-spermicidal condoms on hand, as many women are irritated by, or allergic to, spermicide. Also be aware it can cause yeast and other vaginal infections, and you still have to worry about STDs.

If you don't want to have a kid, your best bet is to use two very effective methods, like condoms and the pill/patch/ring/Depo/IUD. You might also learn about the Fertility Awareness Method, and use the spermicide and withdrawal during 'less fertile' times, then condoms and spermicide or something else during the 'fertile' phase (about a third of the cycle). FAM alone isn't incredibly effective, but it's a good back-up method and excellent for getting pregnant!

Anyone using this type of birth control?

My friend recommended I look into it...

:)

I don't know about the efficacy of these methods combined, but personally, I'd steer clear of them just for the mess factor. If the mess doesn't bother you, ignore.

There are too many tried and true methods: bc pills, condoms, diaphragm, DepoProvera, Nuva ring, etc. to rely on something less than satisfactory.
