Valentine's Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

I really like this site, and I was stoked to see that you guys have writing contests. I love theme writing and I have my entry completed. I can't wait to read everyone else's stories. Best of luck!

Mind the cautions in Ogg's first post to the thread. Your first contest can be a bit of a roller-coaster ride :D

You can see a few of the pitfalls only a few posts up. We have a few bitter trolls who have nothing better to do than try to tear you down. You'll figure out who they are pretty quickly. Best thing to do is just put them on ignore once they stick their head out from under the bridge.

Hi, Veronica, and welcome to Literotica and to the AH. This is a fun place to hang out and discuss and argue about politics, discuss writing, show pics of children and grandchildren, and whatever else you might do in a gathering of chums.

Trolls are usually defined, here at least, as people? who vote ones (one-bombs) on stories for no good reason. People whom Dark describes might or might be among that group.

Here is a story I wrote a while ago on the fate of one such troll. May the same thing happen to them all. http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=258526

Thank you so much for the warm welcoming and the advice. I love to write and that's the bottom line for me. If someone hates it, I welcome all criticism (as long as it's constructive and not destructive) but I hope that people enjoy whatever I write as well. I write to entertain myself and my readers.

I've written three full-length novels, but have never been published, so I'm used to criticism by now, lol. Rejection can be hard, but it really made me focus on my weakest points and attempt to improve my writings. So, I've decided to just have fun with it and write because I want to and not because I hope to gain fame and fortune ;).

And for those who are so wrapped up in the fact that I 'haven't written anything' on this site, my submissions simply haven't been approved yet. Hopefully everything will be posted by tomorrow?

Welcome to the contest forum. Just do your thing and enjoy yourself. Submit your stories when you are ready. If you are submitting for the Valentines Day contest, you might want to wait nearer to the 20th.

Also don't forget to put in the remarks block that the story is for "Valentinen's Day Contest 2011" It's important to do to get a quicker posting on a contest entry. I honesty wish you the best.

If you have any questions during or even before the contest starts, feel free to ask. They have probably all been asked before but most of the authors/writers here don't mind givng advice and answering questions.

Some are out for blood but the majoritey are just here to have fun.

PS I have two stories ready to go. Need to figure out what catagory one should be under.

Five days to the starting gun ( Unless I'm still too half-asleep and misrememberizin' )

The one I've been working on is still emerging fitfully. I actually started another one, but I only have a bit of an opening to that one so far.

I'm all done with my contest submission. I'm getting a little nervous, though. What if everyone has the same idea I had? It's kind of like dreaming of going to school naked on your first day...well maybe not EXACTLY like that, lol.

I never dreamed about going to school naked. In high school, I dreamed about some of the girls being there naked, but that's a different story. :)

Good, I feel better now. I have a couple of stories ready. I wrote a short one tonight, just to see if I could write a short story anymore. I'll post them a couple of days apart. Good luck to you, one of my favorite witches. I hope you win. I'm just in it for some dumb reason. LOL :D

I've already won once. I'm just glad to be writing again. The honor of Ogg's coveted Last Place Award will have to tide me over for quite some time.

So, I'm having some trouble with the story I'm writing for this contest. It's my first serious (fun?) attempt at an erotic short story, and I'm stuck at the sex scene. I'm having trouble determining what to leave in, and what's too much filler. ::frustrated sigh::

Are there any posts or threads that give advice on that? Or anyone want to chime in here? Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Just write what comes into your head. If you ask for opinions you are going to get a ton of them. Some saying more sex and others saying less. Just write it and see how the readers comment.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks. I'll keep plugging away at it and maybe ask an editor to take a look at tit when it's done?

edit: heh, I just noticed my typo. I meant "look at it." But, what I wrote was so appropriate, I'll just keep it in.

Loved it!!! I like looking at tit too. LOL :D

(From the sticky Welcome Authors! Please Read)

I know. The Winter Holiday Contest has just ended but there are only a few weeks between now and the first posting date for the Valentine’s Day Contest, with Christmas and New Year celebrations in between. And for this one, I'm ineligible!

As before, this thread is to encourage authors to write and enter, to support them when the muses fly away, to sympathise when trolls attack, and to shamelessly beg for votes.

For anyone who hasn't entered a themed Literotica contest before:

The advantages are that once you enter, your entry and all your writing gets more attention, votes, feedback and PCs than it would otherwise get. You also get support from members of the Author's Hangout.

The disadvantages are that you will also attract unwelcome attention from trolls and unenlightened critics. The sweeps of duplicated and illegal votes can cause heartbreak. You will probably curse the marking systems and fail to understand how they could possibly have done that to you. It can be a bumpy ride. If you want to know HOW bumpy, read one of the previous contest support threads.

Please ignore the outrageous unsubstantiated claims; the moaning, wailing and gnashing of teeth that occur in this thread over the contest and voting systems and concentrate on the benefits of writing contest entries. You can use the ignore function to remove those people who irritate you most from this or any thread.

If you really want your writing to improve, critics will be a factor. Entering a themed Literotica contest is one of the easier ways to get noticed.

If in doubt, go for it. You have nothing to lose but your virginity, and if you haven't lost it yet, what are you doing here?

Og

PS. And you could be eligible for the Author's Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest and win nothing but the awe and esteem of your fellow-writers.

PPS. As usual there's a plug for my essay: Entering A Themed Literotica Contest. You will also find helpful advice from others in the How-To section of the stories listed on Literotica. Some of that advice is much more helpful than mine because after all I'm the instigator of the Last Place Contest.
______________

Hi, been writing on here since May (as a matter of fact you have answered some questions that I have posted here on things like category selection and length of stories) I have a long ongoing incest series that I am working on but am going to break off this week and work on a rough draft I had for a solo story and give the contest a shot. Now so i understand what your saying, the contest entries are viewed differently and i will be able to see entire threads of people either praising or (and more likely as it will be an incest story) publicly slamming me? Sounds like a real S&M ride. I guess I should also expect to be trolled to death by fans of competing authors? For this abuse maybe i should just write Loving wives stories!! Seriously though looking forward to giving it a shot.

Had brainstorms on both of mine, so they're moving again. Just a bit farther and I'll be up to the main (non-sex) action of the first, and the little bit of anxiety in the second. It's more of a set-up and sex -- plot lite. Testing new waters and expecting several torpedoes *laugh*

It'll probably go a lot quicker once I get a new keyboard. The frikkin' c is dead on this one. I either have to use K and auto-correct or paste every c I want to type at this point. Rather annoying.

i won a valentines day contest with a heart shaped butt plug of all things

And that must have made sitting at the keyboard really painful. Did you keep it there to write the entire story, or just the climax?

(Sorry I'm a bit late with this one, but as I'm not entering I've not been following the thread too much.)

Funny, Funny.

Actually, one of my characters wore it for most of the story. The point I was making, no pun intended, was that a BDSM story won a Valentines Day Contest. Surprised the hell out of me, anyway.

I don't think I'm going to post to this thread anymore during this contest. What used to be a helpful and fun thread has turned into hatred and mockery. I have enough of that in my life without posting to a thread to read more.

I do wish the best to all who enter the contest. I have two stories ready and one at the editors.

OK. My story is edited, titled and ready to submit! I'm having a bit of a time figuring out which category to place it in though. I'm afraid if I put it in one category, it will be ridiculed for not being hardcore enough. But, if I place it in another category, those readers might not like the bit of it that is harder. It's on the border.
