This morning I showed my kids a video, the one posted in my thread. I told them that because of the brave men and women who have served and are serving, we are free. And to never forget.

Thank you to all of you and your families who have served and are serving.

I'm glad you did that - I wish all parents would impress on their kids how huge a deal this is.

Any defence personnel who have been deployed into trouble spots and war and disaster zones across the world have demonstrated true heroism. We give thanks to these men and women for their fortitude and bravery on Remembrance Day in Australia. The minute of silence MichaelInChina mentioned is very well observed, especially in schools and many places of work. Some radio stations also go silent for that minute at 11/11 11:00am. It might not seem like much, but observing it does focus your thoughts on the purpose of the commemoration.

In year 9 at my kids' school, the students are given the name of a WW1 or WW2 veteran from their school and they undertake a research project on that person. They can find where they lived, look at photos from the time to see where they shopped, learn about where they served, what happened to them and their families. It puts a local face on a war well before their time.

A humble, sincere and respectful Thank You to all who have served and all who are currently serving. This may sound strange..but I believe in men and women, worldwide, who stand up and fight against tyranny and evil.. It is not just an American thing...many humans have sacrificed and continue to do so... The world has become such a small place, I believe we are all in this together.

Thank you, Veterans.

My father served in the Marines, my uncles served in the Army and Navy, my son is serving in the Army now. It's a huge sacrifice for the men and women who serve and their families, and I am grateful.
