Virtual Erotic Book Club--Any Interest?

Khadgar said:
hey, i'm still interested, just think maybe we should keep it to online acessable material.

I tend to agree for convenience, but I think that we can venture into off-line materials also.

BTW, the Web site for Emma Holly from Skye seems like a very good starting point--check it out!

You're going to read books, or stories at lit?

My idea at least is to read stories primarily NOT on literotica (since many of those are covered in the story discussion groups), but more other on-line sources by more 'professional' authors (sorry, that's a loaded term) and also books, short stories, magazine contributions, etc.

My main interest is in tapping the collective expertise of Lit to expose myself and others to a variety of examples of erotic literature, both for personal edification and possibly to help us all in developing our own writings (of which I have none to date).

lol i went to pick up Cooking up a Storm and realized i lost my debit card. sighs. so it will be a week or so until i can pick it up.

if we are going to make this a true representation, then are any subjects taboo? i.e. will we be reading subjects that others might take offense too? i.e. gay sex, incest, bdsm...etc. etc. are there any limits?

just curious

I vote that anything goes as far as proposed subjects are concerned. If someone violently objects, or if the proposal is blatantly illegal (e.g. analysis of explicit child porn), then the group may have to censor that topic. If one or a few readers find a topic objectionable, well, the nice thing about the format is that you can either self-select out (refuse to read the work) or state your issues during the discussion.

Based on other threads I've been on, I'm optimistic that the group will remain relatively civil and any disputes can be worked out relatively quickly and effectively.

Hello Roman and Everyone,

I would enjoy being a part of this very much. Not only would it be helpful with my writing of erotica, but it would be great seeing how other people view this subject.

It's always amazed me, though, that some of the simplest things can be deemed erotic. It doesn't necessarily have to involve the actual writing of the act of lovemaking or animal thrusting that is taking place at all. It can be as simple as sharing a delicious piece of chocolate with your lover and enjoying the ways in which you write about the sensations you both feel. It could fill you with anticipation as your fingers gently touch her mouth as you slip a small piece of that dark magic between her lips. Erotic is all in the eyes of the beholder.

I just finished reading the Sleeping Beauty series by Ann Rice and it was very interesting. Some of what I read shocked me, but the shock was rather arousing. There was a certain part of me that had a longing to experience just a fraction of what she wrote.

To make a long story short...I'd be very interested in being a part of this.

Let's get this show on the road

Due to logistical issues, it seems most practical to kick off the discussion by selecting something that is (a) accessible on-line in full-text, and (b) free. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you're looking for ideas, may I suggest that you browse through some of the links for erotica & porn listed on Tristan Taormino's site:

http://www.puckerup.com/links/links.htm

Roman

A word of warning--some of those links may be defunct, and I've found at least one that leads to that most dreaded of hazards, the endless series of pop-up and pop-under Web ads.

lol sure roman, you too.

i donno if we want to go too fat on these, but i have some Fanfics i found on a site that i think are aweing. the quality of writing is amazing. but you kinda have to know the charechters and story line to get the full impact, even so, it's not nessecary though.

Yo! Anyone have any candidates to get the proverbial ball rolling?

I'm reviewing some recent issues of Clean Sheets, etc. so I may offer up a story from there as a sacrificial lamb to see if this virtual book club concept really works.

Roman

Roman,

I wish I could offer advice on some different sites, but I'm not really all that familiar with any other places to look for something.

I can certainly help you look if you'd like but you'd have to steer me in the right direction. Otherwise, if you have something that sounds interesting, I'm sure we'd be up for the challenge.

Thank you, again, for the time you've spent on this idea.

Everyone still here?

OK, let me throw out one suggestion as a start...although I don't feel that I have the sophistication or reading experience of an erotica expert, here's a story that left an impression on me as an interesting work:

Every Girl Has Her Price

The author is Maria Gonzales, who has a number of interesting other stories posted via the Alt.Sex.Stories Text Repository site.

If you want to participate in this 'club,' please read the story and then post any impressions, critiques, etc. on anything related to the story--subject matter, style, writing, etc. No holds barred for now, unless the conversation gets out of hand. My only request is that you READ THE STORY BEFORE YOU READ THE SUBSEQUENT POSTINGS. No fair having your impression of the story clouded by the comments of others...

Waves at everyone in the thread.

I have started the story and am intigued by the whole concept so will finish the story and post away. I look forward to seeing what you all think of the story too. *smile*

Welcome, blueeyedangel. For future reference, I don't think that anyone here will mind if someone joins mid-thread--the more the merrier, at least until things start to get out of hand...

Since I read the story some time ago, I'd appreciate it if someone else would kick off the discussion...

PS If you're annoyed by my 'three-dot journalism,' too bad. What was good enough for Herb Caen is good enough for me!

erotic book club

I am all for it. I have been reading erotica before it was called, "adult". In the old days when "porno" wasn't yet a noun we called then "dirty books" In fact the pp were torn out of books and passed around classes. Who needed to read all of God's Little Acre when we all knew and wanted only p47. And later, I grinned smirked and even wrote to Nancy Friday (who ignored me) when I wrote of of one of her published fantasies, (besitiality with a dog named Duke) had been likewise passed around school as a single spaced jerk-off story.

At least my memory hasn't left me, which is more than I can say of other body parts.

Count me in, please.

I recommend the early Black Lace Books, but not those that emphasized bd on women. Most of the titles are quite delicioius and wonderful for masturbation. I have most of the Mammoth Erotic series, but alert the writing is spotty and contrived.

There are some very good websites, including of course our own Literotica. I don't know if and whether we should promote other sites on this thread. Webmaster have any pov?

I suggest you investigate The Erotic Print Socierty, UK, for some elegant tasteful erotic wriiting and other pubs which lend handily (Yes) to masturbation. Betty Dodson's Sex For One is pretty good.

Feel free to contact me directly at PM or imouseboy@aol.com if you want to share, exchange or have specific questions or areas not quite ready for the thread. Some years ago, I was told by an analyst that no subject was quite as difficult for many to talk about than masturbation as it was practiced by most of us most of the time not only alone and solo, but secret, closeted and hidden. Who is to say he was incorrect?

Not I, said the sparrow.

Thanks, imouse--someone else earlier mentioned reading 19th century erotica, but it would be interesting to find out more about the 'golden age' of U.S. porn--does anyone still distribute the books you mentioned, or are they completely out of print?

As for promoting other sites, I hope that no one sees any harm in it. Literotica clearly doesn't have the market on erotic writings cornered, and what's the harm of directing folks off-site from time to time--would the powers that be worry that we'll stop paying our dues? ;)

Masterbation hard to talk about with others let alone do with other? My, my am I ever in trouble......*wink* Maybe I am one of those abnormals who thinks along the lines of "If it feels good do it". Nothing wrong with that right?

You've got my vote...although the interesting thing about Lit is to find out how folks with different backgrounds and upbringings have all converged on this site.

Back to our book club please!

No comments yet? Need more time? Or should I take the plunge and start the discussion?

RomanHans Erotic books and where to find them.

Hi, RH, and others:

While it might depend on where you reside, I find that the easiest places to seek out and buy erotic books are:

Borders Books, in fact or on-line. I have purchased all of my Black Lace Books there, as well as Blue Moons, Nexus, The various Annuals, "Best of....".

Amazon Books has a great collection of erotic books labelled for various tastes. Qualityand diversification is usually quite good.

On-line try Clean Sheets, Blowfish, Erotic Print Society(UK), ERWA )Erotic Readers Writers Association); and of course, try the various links. All in all a very pleasurable browsing experience.

I would love to hear from you and others as to your searches, readings and self-love pleasure.

Side note: Has anyone else here read Anne Rice's 'Exit to Eden' (written under another pseudonym, I think it was Anne Rampling). At one point I saw a description for a movie which seemed to be an authentic film version of the book--not the horrible attempt to make the book into a movie which starred Rosie O'Donnell and Dan Akroyd. If anyone has info on such a movie, please send it my way!

Mysticcal--thanks for the reply, and look forward to your comments!
