Emma calmed herself. And her sobs slowed into nothing. "I'm glad I didn't shoot anybody." She calmly joked. "You know what I don't get? If Travis was planning to do the same to us, how would he have done it? I mean he couldn't just tackle us all down, he'd have to do something to get us all asleep, or poison us..." She sat upright, her face serious, she looked at Cody. "Cody, you think he did something to the chicken broth?"

Cody shook his head thoughtfully. "No, I don't think so. He probably would've drugged something we all would've eaten. Or maybe even our drinks. Chicken broth just doesn't seem like something everyone would go for, but I could be way off. Maybe we should go ask Matt? He was a chef, and he could probably tell which foods weren't right." Cody said slowly standing up. He reached down and helped Emma to stand and the two of them began to make their way towards the house.

"I was a chef actually, I came out this way looking to open up a business when everything happened. I guess, luckily, I was a bit of a survival nut also so I was kinda prepared for shit. It's weird though, I feel like now that the world is fucked I'm kind of in my element now, like I actually have a purpose or something, ya know? So what's it like? To fly I mean. It was always my dream to be a fughter pilot as a kid honestly but I couldn't do it, and then I never got the chance to get my civvy lisence like I always wanted to either."

"Once you take off it's not that different from driving. Except that the floor is moving." Daniel joked. Daniel turned when he heard the door being opened. He turned to see Emma and Cody walk in. "Hey guys. What's up?" Daniel asked the two of them. "We were thinking about Travis. Emma figured he'd drugged some of the food. Is there anyway you could figure out if he messed with the food Matt?" Cody asked.

"Matt, I don't want anyone to eat that until we've detected if it's infused with poison, if we were to drink it, and Travis returned.." She swiftly and quickly pulled out her hunting knife and threw it straight and perfectly into a moose head along the wall, right into its right eye. "We would die...slowly, if you can't, then I vote not to eat it."

"THere is an easy way to tell if food may have been tampered with. If it is in a sealed can or vaccum sealed jar then it is safe to eat. Anything opened, or in a bag or box which can be resealed may not be safe." Hiromi tells them. "However I do not believe the food has been tampered with, since Travis himself was eating it. It doesn't seem logical to poison your food supply when you are the only person who was eating it. We weren't here long enough for him to poison his food stores, and he may have been crazy bbut he was not suicidal."

"Dana is awake and she realizes she is safe now. She will share her story with us, but only as a group. She does not wish to speak of what she suffered more than once. I suggest we all join her in the living room." Hiromi said returning to the living room.

Emma paused, then said in a emotionless, slight sarcastic voice "I think I'll pass on storytime, The last thing I need is to rem- Fuck it, I'll go, stupid fucking little bitch cunt, piece of shit Travis, mother fucking..." She walked away muttering angry words to herself about Travis. With the others behind, Cody took a seat next to her, and Dana looked better, she started to sharpen her hunting knife with a steak knife. Angrily, preparing herself for the tale.

"What if he poisoned everything, but took the antidote? Then he could eat everything and be fine, but we'd get fucked up. Or is that only in movies?" Cody asked as he followed the group into the living-room. He sat down on a couch next to Emma and waited for Dana to tell her story. He smiled as he watched Barry walk over and sit down next to Dana's feet. "He won't bite you or anything if you want to pet him or hold him or something." Cody said kindly to Dana.

As Daniel sat down in a chair in the corner of the room he was happy to see Dana looked much better than when he'd first found her. Her brunette hair was clean and tangle free, and the grime had been cleaned from her skin. She still had a long road to recovery, but Daniel was glad to see her cleaned up. He nodded to Dana and gave her a reassuring smile.

Dana looked around the room her eyes already full of tears. When she started speaking, her voice was surprisingly strong but a monotone as if she had no emeotions left inside her.

"My name is Dana He...I guess last names don't matter anymore, just Dana. About 2 or 3 weeks before the dead started not dying, my dad past away. My mom brother, and I were on our way to spend time with his family in Wisconsin. SUddenly everytime we got close to any city of any size, the state police then the Army were telling us to go back home. Soon there wasn't anyone telling us not to go where we were headed. We kept trying to get to Wisconsin, but the roads were clogged with people fleeing to safety or abandoned cars, or walking corpses. I thought it was a nightmare, I was wrong."

She paused and looked away from everyone, and Hiromi who was sitting on the arm of the couch took her hand and held it silently. After several minutes Dana continued "I'm sure teh next part of the story is pretty much the same as yours... Finding places to sleep, yet not being able to for fear they would find you, scrounging for food and water. Meeting other survivors and forming groups someplace that wasn't as safe as you thought. Runnning for your life in the middle of the night as your friends were ripped to shreds."

The room grew uncomfortably, and Dana could see they all shared these experiences and none of them wanted to remember them.

"Well I was always a daddys girl and hated when he would go away to hunt or fish, so I asked him to teach me. He taught me how to live off the land, how to build blinds and he even started to teach me how to build things."

"One night, about a year after the shit storm arrived, we were holed up in an apartment building with a mom and her toddlers. How she had managed to keep them alive that long I have no idea. We had food, she had guns, several of them. We traded. She could sleep for once while I would keep us safe that night. Then these two idiots got themselves trapped by 20 or so of them, and started shooting drawing in every rotten corpse for miles. I woke everyone up and herdede them up to the roof."

Tears start to roll down her face as she remembers what she had thought was teh worst night of her life.

"The mom, I think her name was Jacqui, said thank you and handed over all her guns and ammo. Then picking up her babies she dove, and I mean dove, headfirst off the roof."

She let that hang in the air while she tried to regain her composure. After a long time she finally took a deep breath and continued.

"I don't remember much after that for several days at least. Somehow we got off the roof and found these woods. We were in the woods and I was walking a few yards in front of my family trying to find something to shoot for dinner, when I tripped over a root, and as I fell, I saw a well camoflauged, sturdy Deer Blind up in a large oak tree. It was really more of a small cabin, it even had a couple of cots in it.We lived there for a long time, I have no idea how long. I hunted and fished for food, my brother would get water from the nearby lake, and occasionally we would make runs into the towns nearby for clothes and other things we needed. It was the best time of my life since daddy died."

A sad smile was on her face at the bittersweet memory, of being with her family and safe from the undead threat. "My brother the science geek was even able to wire together some solar panels so we could have electric lights at night, and play video games on our cell phones. Then one day I was out tracking this 8 point buck I had shoot, when I felt something touch my neck and The next thing I remember is waking up like you found me, and this ugly smelly dirty creature standing over me rambling about how I was going to help him repopulate the Earth."

Swallowing hard she visibly steeled herself for the next part of the story "Sometimes I would see him several times a day, sometimes a day or two would go by without him visiting me. Everytime he visited me, as he called it, I would get food and water. Enough to keep me alive but not enough to allow me the strength to escape. I have no idea how long I've been missing, but my mother and brother must be worried sick."

The tears were freely rolling down her face now, and Hiromi was sitting on the couch next to Dana holding her. "You all rescued me from him, and I will bnever be able to pay you for that. But, unless I can find my family, my rescue means nothing. Please will you help me find them?"

At this point she completely breaks down and her whole body is wracked in sobs and all the pain and angusih she had been holding in since she was captured was being released.

Daniel sighed heavily as he watched Dana sob. He wanted nothing more than to go over and hold her as she cried, but she probably wasn't comfortable around men yet. But worse than that was the news he had to tell her. "Dana... I don't know how to tell you this. I don't want to tell you this. But... I... I think I found the deer blind. And I think Travis did too." He said quietly pulling the rope ladder he'd taken from the deer blind out of his backpack. He slowly walked over to Dana and handed her the coiled rope ladder. "Is this... Does this look familiar to you?" Daniel asked his voice heavy with guilt. He didn't want to give her anymore pain, but he figured it would be better to get it out of the way now.

When Dana started to get to the part of Travis, her sharpening became louder and intense. Her story seemed less worse then she imagined but, she was also scared for now all three women. She didn't know what Travis was capable of, although staying here seemed like a great idea, it also seemed like the worst one yet. She was in no mood to comfort Dana, after the story her two knifes ends up in a scuttling rat about 20 feet across the room. "Just let me go. Stay." She whispered into Codys ear before getting up and banging the door open.

Walking outside into the cool night air, she grabbed her silent sniper, and started to walk through the forest, but not far, and shoot trees just to get her rage out, she thought she saw movement, but her paranoid side seemed to be getting up on her, and she angrily shot a white rabbit. She sat down in between two trees and looked back at the visible cabin, and then looking into the clear, silent sky.

"Dana reached out and touched one of the runge on the rope ladder. This ...Matt...my brother made this. He...he said using a fixed ladder was unsafe, that we needed one to pull up if strangers were around. Where did you find it?"

"I'm so sorry Dana." Daniel said taking a respectful step back. "I found your deer blind. And someone else, I assume Travis, had been there before. I took the lader down so nothing would be disturbed. Your mother and brother... They... I don't think they suffered." Daniel said quietly. He felt his heart break at the look on Dana's face. He kneeled down and bet her red-rimmed eyes. "Dana. I swear to you that I will find that man. I will find him and make him pay for every single evil thing he's done. And I swear that while there is still blood in my veins and breath in my lungs that I won't ever let anyone or anything hurt you ever again. I swear it to you." Daniel said with strong determination in his voice.

"No...no...it can't be true! their alive it's...there's no way, he couldn't have..." Dana stops talking and her face goes completly blank. she sits there totally motionless barely breathing and not blinking at this news.

Hiromi waves everybody away as she gently seperates herself from the young woman and moves to another chair. "Get some rest. I will stand watch all night. In the morning we have much to discuss."

"So do we just pick a bedroom and sleep there?" Cody asked standing up and grabbing Barry. "I don't see why not." Daniel said with a shrug. "Alright. I guess I'll see you guys in the morning. Night." Cody said walking up the stairs. Daniel hesitated a moment before walking over to Dana. "I'm sorry that I had to tell you that, but if you need anything just ask me." Daniel said before walking up to Hiromi. "Watch her, and if you need any sleep come get me and I'll take over the watch. Night." Daniel said walking for the stairs. He climbed the stairs and took the second bedroom on the left. He kicked off his boots and flopped onto the bed. He fell asleep before his head hit the pillow.

Emma, climbed some trees. She didn't want to sleep, she was gonna be awake all night, and keep watch. She would be damned if Travis was able to sneak up on her, or in the house. She wouldn't let anyone get hurt. She climbed down, and decided if he were to make a appearance, it wouldn't be tonight. She was a expert in the woods, so she decided she would take a walk. Her dark brown hair still loose at her side. And brushed as well, from bathing earlier. Her dark green eyes adjusted to the darkness. And her view from the cabin disappeared.

All of a sudden, Emma was failing through the air. She quickly got up after landing on her chest, her foot must've caught on something, turning around she saw a body. It was a woman, her eyes were closed, she wasn't breathing. She was clothed, her flesh was rotting, it looked couple days old, but she couldn't really tell, just a dead zombie woman. With bites and a missing nose. She gagged, before continuing her walk.

Every so often Hiromi made a patrol around hte house and fence line making sure it was secure. She knew Emma was out there somewhere and not on the farm. She hoped the other warrior was safe, but there was nothing to be about it until morning.

Returning from her perimiter check, she sat next to Dana watching her sleep, tossing and turning, whimpering as she stayed just below the line between being awake and asleep.

The night passed uneventfully. At around three in the morning Daniel woke up and traded shifts with Hiromi. Daniel spent a good portion of the early morning hours sorting through the foods in Travis's kitchen. He separated the food that was safe to eat from the food that was unsealed before returning to the living room. He sat down and watched Dana struggled to find a deep sleep. She whimpered and rolled around fighting off invisible attackers that tormented her dreams.

Daniel walked quietly to Dana's side and pulled her blanket more comfortably over her before going to a recliner in the corner of the room. He dozed off for a while, but awoke when he heard Dana stirring from her sleep. "Good morning." Daniel said with a yawn. He made no move to get out of his chair, and hoped that he wasn't intimidating to the brunette. "How did you sleep?" He asked cautiously.

Emma awoke to something wet at her face, she opened her eyes and saw a beautiful, black stallion. She sat upright and realized she was in the middle of the woods still, she must've just decided to sleep right there. Although she couldn't really remember. She instinctively reached around and grabbed her sniper, aiming it at the stallion which had backed about 8 feet away and stared at her. She knew they had plenty of food, but more was always better.

She saw the fear instantly register in the horses face. But it made no move to run. She could see through it, she could see its happiness, love, comfort, fear, sadness, terror, joy. All of its life flashed through its eyes and she could see it. The horse was trying to get by, just as they all were. She slowly put the sniper back on her back, she got up slowly and they both stared at each other. She slowly put out her hand, and the horse backed away, then slowly moved towards her shaking hand, it could easily trample her and damage her seriously. It started to sniff her hand, and then gave it one long wet lick.

Emma smiled, she had always had a liking for horses. She stroked its head and it closed its eyes. After about 40 minutes of petting it, she said goodbye to it and started to walk away, as she went under the hole in the fence, Emma heard a large tump beside her, she got up and saw the horse no more then 10 feet away from her. Emma smiled and sat down in front of the cabin. The horse laid itself down about five minutes later, after looking around, she slid over and brought its head on her lap, where she began to stroke its neck, it closed its eyes in peace. Emma remained on the lawn and continued to do this.

Hiromi was grateful that Daniel had come to take over watch. She hadn't slept in 2 or 3 days and her will power was waning. She laid down on the fllor next to the couch and fell asleep. SHe was awolen by a blood curdling scream.

Jumping up with her Katana in her hand she saw Daniel sitting in a chair, and Looking around she saw the terror in Dana's eyes as she screamed.

"Dana, you are safe. Daniel was watching over you while I slept." She says taking a hold of the girl and looking her in her eyes.

Dana saw Hiromi and and her scream trailed off. She sat there brathing hard trying to gert her fear under control. She felt safe with these people, but waking up to see a man watching her was too much like the hell she had lived through with Travis. She didn't know if she would ever really feel comfortable around any male again.

Once Hiromi had calmed Dana down, she sat on the couch wtih the traumatized woman and just sat there with her wondering what new sadness togay would bring.

"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to scare you." Daniel said to Dana slowly getting out of his chair. "I'm going to see how gross the showers are. Shout if you need me." Daniel said giving the couch that Dana and Hiromi shared a wide berth. He didn't want to get too close and upset Dana, so he didn't say anything else as he left the room and walked up the stairs.

As he got to the top of the stairs Daniel decided to check on Cody. He cracked open Cody's door to find the blonde man spread out on his bed snoring loudly. Daniel quietly closed the door and walked further down the hallway to the bathroom.

Daniel opened the door preparing to enter a bathroom that would make a highshcool men's room look clean, but he was suprised to see a regular looking bathroom. Aside from a few piss stains on the toilet and a red paste caked to the bottom of the sink, the bathroom was in a clean condition. "If we're staying here I'll have to find some cleaning supplies, but for right now it's not so bad." Daniel thought stripping out of his clothes and getting into the shower.

After a couple minutes, Emma decided she would call the black stallion, "Zander". The horse eventually snorted into a uneasy sleep. She gently put its head down unto the grass. Zander still snored, she got up and walked a pace to Zander's stomach, she layed her head down on his healthy stomach. Zander did a loud snort but didn't move. She looked up at they sunrise, and due to her uncomfortable sleep earlier, she fell asleep again, her head still resting on Zander's side.

After about ten minutes Daniel stepped out of the shower, feeling much better now that he'd washed the dirt and grime from his body. He put on his old clothing, deciding he didn't want to wear anything from Travis's wardrobe, before stepping out of the bathroom. He walked down the stairs and saw Emma asleep near the front porch... With a horse. "Where the hell did she find that?" Daniel wondered with a perplexed smile on his face.

He shook his head, still smiling, and walked into the living room. "I don't know where Matt has got off to, but I'm not that bad of a cook myself. How about I make us breakfast?" Daniel said to Hiromi and Dana.

"Breakfast sounds wonderful to me." Hiromi says

Dana sheepishly looks away from him embaressed at her reaction to one of the people who saved her. She knew she should be grateful, but everytime she was near a man she remembered how Travis had treated her.
