War of the Immortals

Cristian slowly got his feet and looked at Adriana, "I am okay. Thank you, you helped me more than you know."

He then looked over at where Isolde lay and walked over to her, placed his hands onto her shoulders and said, "I felt it to. If there is any way that I can help I will."

Isolde felt a lancing bolt of energy enter her and envelope her. She felt her breath being pulled away and she gasped. When her breath returned, so did her senses.

She looked over at the new person, a bit dazed, but alright physically and now the despair that had enfolded her was ebbing-being replaced by sadness at her loss but she could think again.

Nodding to Cristian to indicate she was okay, she approached the new comer and knelt down beside him.

"I'm okay-thanks to you," She said gently, seeing that he was upset with what he had done. Wiping her face of tears, she smiled weakly,"We have to get out of here. I will have time to mourn later-after we are all safe."

Looking up at Cristian again, she asked,"He lives with you doesnt he?" At the mage's nod, she closed her eyes and allowed a few more tears to slip down her cheeks. "Than I fight by his side, Mage, no matter the outcome or what form he takes. Where he goes so do I."

Standing, she picked up her bow and arrows and slung them over her shoulder before examining the items that Garret had returned to her.

Cristian turned back to Nimbus and slowly got onto her, "We have to get out of here, now. Because that army or whoever is controlling it will figure out where we have gone and come back so I don't want to be here to greet them, let's go," he turned his head to look at the way that they had just come but then turned his head the other way as if guided by someone, "that way. I don't want any arguements or complaints that the army we are trying to avoid is that way. I have a feeling that we are going that way. No, I am going that way but if you wish to stay I will not force you to follow me."

He then leant down and whispered into Nimbus' ear, "Come on boy, let us go. There is someone or something there that we have to get to but it may be dangerous. Are you with me boy?"

With a whinny the horse began to slowly race away from the group with Cristian on his back saying, "Come on boy, our destiny lays that way!"

Isolde:

Isolde helped Garret up and then mounted her horse after securing the recovered items on the mount.

"I have told you that I follow my master, Mage," She said before urging her horse to a gallop.

Adriana:

Adriana scrambled to get up on her horse and follow Cristian. She had a promise to fulfil and she was determined not to fail in keeping it.

Suddenly a voice that was not his own sounded in Cristian's head, "Isolde, do not follow this man because he has the essence of your master inside of him but instead follow this man because you know that his quest is right for if you follow him for no other reason than he has me inside of him you are not going to do him any good because he needs you to follow him. But, if you feel that what he is doing is foolhardy and will get you killed you must follow your heart and mind and stay here or go to your home."

As soon as the voice had disappeared from his head Cristian thought This is too big a price to pay for if I do not stop these voices in my head I fear that I will go mad

There was a slight sparkle in the bright sky. Too small to notice unless staring in it's direction, which noone was. The sparkle turned into an Icicle. Large, sharpened to a point. It flew strait downward, unnafected by the wind, Splitting the air in a jagged Halo. True to it's course, and traveling at Mach 3, the ice shard dived straight towared Lokken.....

At the sound of the voice, Isolde shook her head.
"I follow to stop the needless deaths of others like yourself, Master," She said in response,"And I shall not stop until I accomplish that. I failed in my first mission-I shall not fail in this one."

The look of determination and the light blazing in her eyes spoke more than even her words.

Garath

Garath walked down the hallways in a foul mood. His undead riders had totally missed the people that they were looking for and now there was another member to the group. But what annoyed him the most was that the white mage, Cristian had taken all the souls and powers that were meant to be his. That is what he had destroyed those pathetic white mages for but he had found a way to swing that to his advantage. He walked into his labratory and smiled when he saw the mage's strapped to the tables in the middle of the room. They all looked at him and cursed Garath which only made his smile grow larger. He walked over to the first white mage and produced a small blade out of the sleeve of his robe. The white mage's eye went wide when he saw the blade and then began screaming as Garath began to slice slowly through his throat. When he was sure that the mage was dead he walked slowly to the other mage's who were struggling to get off of the tables as they had all seen the death of their fellow mage.

After Garath had killed all of them and drained them all of blood he walked over to his book of necromancy and opened it then began recite the words from the page before him. He looked up and smiled when he saw the dark cloud hovering over the mage's. It moved downwards and suddenly ingulfed the mages which began to move and squirm on the tables.

As soon as the cloud had disappated Garath looked and smiled to see the lichs that were laying on the table looking back at him with a smile on their now evil faces. When Garath looked at them he said, "Welcome to the world again. I have a little job for you."

"What is that?" one of the lich's said in a voice that seemed to come straight from the grave.
"Follow me and I will tell you," Garath said before he walked out of the labratory, the lich's gliding silently behind him.

Adriana

Adriana rode along-not knowing where they were headed. Only knowing that she must follow this mage wherever he might go so that she might fulfill her part of the promise.

She was worried about Cristian though. The strain of what was happening showed plainly in his face and, when she had touched him to help him through the last addition to his powers, she had felt more pain from him than any mortal should be put through and still stay sane.

Urging her horse forward, she looked steadily ahead and tried not to think about what this might bode for the future.

Cristian

As Cristian rode down the road he tried to cut out the voices but found that it was impossible. There were too many to try and shut out and he felt as though he was going insane. He stopped his horse and closed his eyes, trying to make his the only voice that he heard in his head and suddenly there was silence with only his voice in there.

He opened his eyes and asked Nimbus to start riding again. Just then the voices reappeared in his head and he screamed out, "Leave me alone! I just want to be left alone!"

Garret couldn't help but stare at the elf. Part of it was simple fascination, part of it was awe, but mostly it was because he thought somehow he had hurt her.
She was crying after she had gotten up, he must have hurt her harder than he thought, for her to cry like that. At least she had her things back though, and she was able to walk and talk. Garret still didn't like it, he didn't like it at all.
This magic, this stupid magic. It was the cause of everything wrong. If he never had this magic he would still be home with his family, safe. Now, his mother and father were dead, he was out on his own, riding along with total strangers, and the elf was in pain.
That was the end of it. He would never use magic again. All it did was hurt everyone he had known, and now this stranger. He would keep the promise he made to his mother, and never use it again.
He shook his head, he didn't even know her name. That was extremely rude. Before his mother tried to enslave him, she always taught him good manners (dry cough).
Garret rode up to her solemnly. He wanted to shake her hand, but the thought of touching her again brought a shiver down his spine.
"Hello, I'm Garret. I'm sorry, I don't know your na..."
That was as far as he got. The man at the front started screaming.

Isolde

Isolde turned her head when Garret started to speak and then her head whipped up to where Cristian was in torment.

Turning back to the young man (when your over 200 yrs every human is young) she tried to smile but did not think it worked.

"He lives with his own demons. A heavy price paid for power to defeat an enemy. We must find him help or his mind will shatter from the barrage but I know not where. My master was the last to join with him and I know no other mages as powerful."

Shaking her head, she said,"And my name is Isolde. Daughter of an elvin warrior and student of..." She broke off as she realized yet again that she was no longer apprentaced to anyone. Tears threatened to well in her eyes again but she refused to give in to the feeling.

Changing the subject, she said,"I want to thank you for what you did back there. If not for you I would have stayed on the ground for I do not know how long and probably been killed. I am in your debt and I will pay it back-I promise you."

Adriana

Adriana rode close to Cristian and put her hand out to touch him but did not dare to actually do it. Her friend was changing and not for the better.

She felt helpless and lost for she did not know what to do. Pulling her hand back to herself and placing it upon her chest as if to prevent it from attempting that again, Adriana looked at Cristian and a tear fell down her cheek as she cursed the gods for thier mockery of a good man in giving him a cursed gift.

Cristian looked at Adriana as his hand shrank away from him and thought I must look like I am going insane as Adriana, my closest and dearest friend will not even touch me.

He then looked around at everyone in the group and said, "I want you to ride on to Isolde's home. I know that there is nothing there for us to do now... I am sorry Isolde but you will find a safe haven there. I will try and join you in two days but I can not be around you as I have things that I need to do, things that I must do on my own."

He turned to leave but stopped when he heard Adriana say, "Why must you go?"

Adriana

"Why must you go?," She heard herself say and she could not believe she would be so bold as to do that. Maybe Cristian was not the only one who had changed over these last few days.

Shaking her head she said firmly,"I will not desert you, Cristian. I know you are going through things right now that are beyond our comprehension but I care about you, dearly, and I still have my promise to keep to you."

Riding over and placing her hand on his arm, forcing herself not to tremble, she looked him in the eyes. Oh gods! What torture lay in those eyes. It pulled at her heart and she fought back the tears...she would not be that weak! Cristian needed her strength now-needed to be comforted not obligated to do the comforting.

"Please, Cristian, I dont want to leave you."

Isolde

Isolde slowed down her horse and looked over at the mage and shook her head.
"There are no safe havens, Mage," She said in a stern voice,"Not until the balance is restored will we be able to rest easy. My way is clear and I will not shrink from it. And I do not think anyone else present will either."

Cristian looked at Adriana and then the rest of the group, "I need to be alone as I am going to war with myself. It will not be pretty and I do not want anyone else to go through that- other than myself."

Cristian then felt Adriana's arm start to tremble more on his and he looked at her, "I know that you want to be with me and I want you there more than anything but I do not want to hurt you and I am afraid that I might do that because I will not be able to control my magic. You saw what I did to those assassins in the forest."

Cristian shuddered at the mention of the fireball that he had created and destroyed the assassins that were after the group. He knew that he was now becoming powerful and that also scared him because he was also becoming unable to control it as he had never had this much power and he feared for his safety and the others around him.

Adriana

Adriana's face set in determination and she shook her head almost in a violent fashion. Her hair whipped about her face, the motions were so hard.

"NO!," She said, not knowing where she got the strength to go against Cristian's statement,"The gods threw us together for some reason, Cristian, and I will not leave. If you try I will follow you."

"I am sure of one thing-you will not hurt me! You have given my your promise and I know you will keep it. I am here to help you, My Friend, and I will not stray from that path."

Cristian looked at Adriana in shock, "I do not want you to come with me! I am afraid for myself and for you because I know that my magic will be going haywire and I can not control it. And as a friend I want you to please listen to me- don't come with me, don't follow me and if you see anything in the sky do not come and investigate. I must have your word on this, will you give it?"

Cristian moved his arm away from Adriana's hand and instantly saw the pain in her eyes but he knew that he couldn't stay as he was beginning to become a danger to himself which in turn would put everyone else in danger. He looked at Adriana and ran two fingers down her cheek then said in a voice so low that only Adriana could hear it, "Goodbye my friend, find a place to stay out of danger. I will be back in two days, that I promise you."

He then turned Nimbus and rode away from the group into the trees, disappearing as if he had never been there at all.

Isolde sighed and rode up alongside Adriana.
"Let him go," She said to the young girl,"The best thing that you can do now is simply be there when he comes back."

Turning to the others, Isolde said,"We have two days to wait for the mage and I must go and pay my respects to my former master. If any is willing to come to the elvin lands with me than I promise hospitality for all as long as you observe our customs."

Looking at Adriana, she added,"And no prejuduce because of who or what you are. Magics are strong in my land and all forms are understood. Will you come?"

When Adriana nodded almost imperceptively, she smiled and turned to the others. "And what of you?," She asked.

As Cristian rode into the forest he knew that he had made the right decision. He could not risk anyone in the group as his powers were going to be unpredictable at best. He rode until he found a large cave, one large enough for him to stay for the next two days. As soon as he was in the cave he told Nimbus to leave and then come back in two days as he did not want to hurt him as well. Nimbus left Cristian alone and as soon as he did Cristian sat cross legged on a rock, closed his eyes and began to do battle with the one person he knew he could never defeat, himself.

Lokken stared at them as realization hit him. It felt like a slap in the face. "The sleep of Horror. I was caught in it once after a near suicidal attempt to save a group of Aventurers. All we can do si pray and hope. The worst moment of their life will be played out in front of them countless times", he said, shivering.

Garret watched the mage leave. He shuddered silently. That's exactly why he didn't want to use his magic anymore. It did more harm than good. He nodded solemnly, magic was bad. The mage knew it, and he knew it.
Garret heard the elves purposal. Go to the elven lands? He didn't know, he wasn't sure if he even wanted to ride with these people anymore. He felt something about everyone here...
...has all our company met....
...something he couldn't quite picture, but still it was there.
Then again, he got to see more of the elf, in fact even more elves. A whole land full of elves. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, he might even get to know her better.
What was her name again? Icer? Isold? Something like that.
"Yeah... I suppose I will go, for a little bit."
He said, reluctantly.

Isolde nodded and smiled as everyone agreed.
"Than to my homeland it is. My family is well respected so, as my friends you shall be greeted as honored guests."

Mounting, she grabbed Adriana's reigns and led the way. It should not take them long as they were close to elven lands right now. She just wondered what she was going to do with her life once this was over now that her master was dead. She supposed she shouldnt worry about it though...none of them may come back from this alive.

As time passed in their journey, she found her eyes drawn back to the young man that had recently joined them and she fell back to talk to him.

"Garret, wasnt it?," She said, a warm smile on her face,"I never did thank you for returning my things to me. Not many people would be honest enough to do that. Thank you."

Do you guy's realize that my champion sent an ice missle at Lokken, and since no move was made against it that by all logic, It struck home. My guy hasn't abandoned his destiny you know! he hasn't left the tread or dropped out of the adventure just yet
