The problem is maintenance. Too many people defer critical maintenance for their machinery. For things like cars, you can kind of get away with it. For a steam boiler, you can't because it'll explode.

Story in there about a guy who restored a steam tractor and was driving it to the local fair. The cops stopped him and held him so long "investigating" the situation that the boiler ran dry. The tractor went ka-blooey and killed a buncha folks.

We don't want steam in the hands of the general public. Just like we don't want nuclear power in their hands either. I'm kinda on the fence about fusion.

I had noticed that. "Uneducated." Truth be told, a BA/BS is not quite what a HS diploma was 50 years ago.


Wat used to work with a bunch of buccaneer house renovators. Every single one of them had a 4-year degree in something artsy-fartsy and was painting or doing drywall or butchering wood. None of them had the gutlessness to lie down and put his head under the Bootheel of Oppression.


Most of the extensive readers I have known preferred that to the classroom.
