I think that Barry was a patriot. I think that people feared that he'd get us into WW3 by escalating the 'Nam to a very hot conflict. Maybe. Maybe not. In hindsight, the whole thing probably didn't need doing. I'm inclined to think that we wouldn't even have been there were it not for our strange but continued loyalty to Lafayette and the French navy. The entire pantheon knows we have paid them back a gazillion times over. Let's stop now.


Of course, there was this young man named Nguyen who went to Paris in 1919 with a lovely long expressive letter that he wished to give to World War Wilson. Being as he was, basically, nobody, best he could do was get one of WW's aides to take it with the "promise" that he'd get it to the president.
