Yes, there are several programs who do this for you. I used to use audiograbber with a plug in. But many others do the job, some even for free

I prefer CDEX a free ware app that can rip CD to wav or mp3, wav to mp3, mp3 to wave, etc.

I like Audacity, a free, open-source application that will do the trick. Has all sorts of effects, such as noise reduction, amplification, echo, phase shift. Versions for Mac, Linux & Windows. I've used it a lot to convert some seminars that were recorded on audio tape to MP3.
