What are the basics we need to have a society? I thought of some:
Clean air, water, and healthy food. We have some setbacks here, such as the data centers that pollute water and the junk that causes childhood diabetes.
Competent parents raising kids who become functional adults and have more kids.
Communities where kids can safely play outside, walk to school, walk to stores, etc.

The main problem I see is that usually "improve society" is just code for "we want to control what you think, say, own and are allowed to do".

Some of how we can somewhat improve society:
Continue rebuilding domestic manufacturing, so high school grads can immediately work and raise families on single incomes, so one parent can stay home and parent.
Continue deporting illegals that are exploited for illegally low wage labor.
Make our education educational again. Smaller schools closer to homes so kids can walk to school, with just teachers, not office staff of doing anything but teaching in huge schools designed as prisons. Fire the bureaucrats who regulated our schools into the wrecks they are now.
Put health and care back in healthcare. Fire the corporations, the HMOs, corporate hospitals, etc. And the bureaucrats. Patients pay cash, and maybe barter, for service and are allowed to choose who provides and what care they get, anything from acupuncture to radio waves.
Stop bailing out the automobile industry while requiring it to make crap. Start letting it design more durable and practical cars.
Fire corporate media. Stop paying for their propaganda. Just ignore them. Read, hear, and watch independent journalists who practice journalism, and carefully choose some to pay for their work.

We could acknowledge stealth inflation, products and services made deliberately worse to keep prices somewhat stable, and negative returns, products and services becoming worse because more money is spent on them. When a product can't be improved, but improvements are still required by corporate policy or government regulations, the negative returns kick in hard. And then we have propaganda becoming desperate to sell crap. Manufacturers and service providers being honest about what they sell would be an improvement.

We can improve society by recognizing kids are the most valuable asset of any nation. Letting kids be neglected and abused in foster care is literally a crime against humanity. Recognizing the importance of parenting and making it affordable is a pass/fail test, where failure means we don't have a society.
