Clint gave Catalina a slight smirk at Fury's words

"See? Smart man. He knows when to not push things."

The medics stood down at least, which should help to calm down the situation. Clint turned to the others, "Come on people, just relax. The two of them came with us, but they are in a new space that they do not know and they are used to having to fend for themselves. Just treat them like a skittish horse and we should be good. I think."

 

[Asa]

Cap was already hitting that everything is a threat mentality mumbling something about this will not end well. A glare from Nat got him to roll his eyes and walk off.

Kya seemed to call some then looking around she saw Fury and tilted her head pawing at the case that Nat had put the pictures in looking at her.

You think I should show them don't you?

Nat studied the massive feline as it seemed almost human intelligence and understanding the cat nodded. She moved to open the case.

Tony... Fury... There is something you two need to see. I would have included cap but he needs to cool off apparently.

Taking out the pictures he showed them everyone still present.

Grandfather said they were friends of his in your world but they could not help him with what he really wanted to do for man and mutant kind. All of that is irrelevant since he has passed I am sure you have questions... please feel free to ask them once everyone is settled. As for your team mate... I do not think he likes us.

Hearing that Fury took the picture of her grandfather and a very small looking Steve and grumbled we can fix that. Conference room after they get settled.

"Wonder why Cap is so upset though, I'd expect his reaction from Tony. Must be some sort of back story there."

Clint picked up a sheaf of papers and casually flipped through it, "So this is what science looks like when it isn't on a computer screen."

Natasha gave him a light cuff behind the head, "Put that down, remember Singapore."

Clint places the papers back down and rubs the back of his head, "You know that wasn't my fault."

Natasha scoffs and closes the box, "It's never your fault."

 

[Asa]

Fury found Steve and sighed.

What the hell is your problem Rogers?

You had us bringing someone on here who literally just tried to kill everyone out of fear. They are a threat Fury plain and simple.

Fury shoved the picture of her grandfather and a very different Steve into his hands.

And without her grandfather you wouldn't be here. I'd say that makes you a part of this debt to be repaid to Ebenezer Westlyn too now doesn't it. Remember how scared and confused you were waking up. Conference room 30 minutes get over your fucking ego and that's an order.

Steve stared at the picture conflicted but rolled his eyes at the order and taking the picture walked off.

Kya was the main concern as the med team slowly and carefully walked over.

We would like to examine both of you just for a clean bill of health if we may.

Kya snarled but did not move. Banner walked over.

Maybe I should take charge of this someone a little less human to relate to.

Catalina first looked to Banner then to the height of Hulk.

Dual soul... he is confused that I can see him as well like this.


Tony stopped cold.

You can see the big guy?

Catalina nodded.

Yes... can you not see him as well... no he has to be the dominant soul to be seen notmally... interesting.

"No, we can not see Hulk unless Banner transforms. There have been one or two people who can see or sense the dual nature of the soul he carries."

Clint waved the medical team back for Kya to be able to relax

"Listen, get this nonsense sorted out Banner, there's an island of innocent people who are being terrorized by Hydra. We need to prevent Hydra from harming more of them and gain access to their mutations."

He glanced at Catalina

"Could you perhaps help to keep Kya relaxed? They just need to check you for contaminants, since the two of you are quite fit and healthy."

 

[Asa]

Kya moved over to a different box and batted at it till Nat opened it and began looking through.

Tony this looks like something you would have thrown together but you were dancing with Kya so Rhodey I assume you did this.

They start looking in the box as Catalina moves to Kya and walks closer to Banner. Kya sniffs his hand and seems to agree he is okay as the three of them walk off. Nat finds some files.

Wow... we are damn lucky she is here. According to this the good Dr had and buried 4 kids on that island. Only one living long enough to give him a grandchild.

Rhodes picked up some papers and read.

The natives wanted to hide his presence from the outsiders but he knew who they were and wanted to confront them he tried...

Steve's voice cut it.

Let me guess reason with or negotiate with them and when it didn't work he wanted to make things and design things the locals could build to escape them or evict them.

Rhodes looked over nodding.

Her mother is the one that told him the locals had already decided how to protect him and his family best even if it meant kill them before they could get their hands on them. They knew there was something special about them since the one everyone called Von Strucker seemed so intent on getting their hands on Westlyn. The villagers saw no way to protect them then once they passed a certain age... kill them.

Steve looked stunned.

We need to train her and fast... I'll do it.

Fury looked over.

Nat of Clint since she seems calm around him. You need to go over Island Intel as Maria gets it from Catalina and devise a plan.

He listened to the group's discussion, since he had nothing to add, he just sat silently, doing what any good operative would do in this situation. Gather intel and get to know the situation. That was until Fury selected him or Natasha to train Catalina, he leaned forward to look at Natasha, who in turn was carefully evading his gaze.

"Damn."

Fury looked at him, "Problem there Hawkeye?"

Even though Fury was not a dictator, he always appeared to play the long game and Clint knew that he would not have chosen him or Widow to train the young girl without a reason other than her seeming to be calmer around them. He met Fury's gaze.

"No sir, no problem at all."

Fury nodded and Clint leaned back into his seat, running a hand over his face.

 

[Asa]

A few moments later Banner walked out with Kya and Catalina.

Perfectly healthy and according to The computers we are in the presence of a natural mutant variation to an extent to the same super soldier serum in Cap.

Everyone looked to Catalina and Banner laughed and said

Lower guys. Kya.

"That explains the temper."

This earned Clint a gaze from the large cat, but he just grinned at her and motioned towards Steve with his head. Kya kept looking at him for a few more moments and then looked at Cap, the panther's gaze made Cap look at Clint, his eyes narrowing slightly at the innocent look on Clint's face.

 

[Asa]

Grandfather said there was something spe ial about her. They took her in as an orphan cub when I was a baby. We grew up together and she has always protected me.

She said

As for the island now that we have had drones do scans and checked everyone out. Guess it's time for questions and I have a really big one.

Banner began

How can you talk to Hulk as if he is a separate person and can you hear his answers or how does all that work. Few can sense him but nothing like this?

She just shrugged.

There are those on the island who are perhaps similar to you they are dual souls as well. They are able to engage on both planes of existence as it were at the same time. He has just clearly never known that could happen I guess.

"Yes something special, but I have a feeling that she might have an even more advanced formula of serum than Mr Rogers over here."

Clint weathered Cap's hard glare, he knew that he was being a wiseass and that it could get him into trouble down the line, but for now, he knew that Fury would not allow any unnecessary bickering.

"Now Catalina, when you say that on the island there are dual personalities like Banner and Hulk, does that mean that they have human and animal forms, or are there more Hulk-like people out there?"

 

[Asa]

Fury listened intently. As Tony spoke.

Jarvis pull up a 3D image of Hulk for Catalina color solidity 6.

When the image appeared she studied it closely.

Different people different looks everyone is different. Some animals some almost like this others... just different human appearance. They also have those that through sheer force of mind according to Grandfather can shield the entire island so I do not know how the people with octopus looking insignia on their clothes know of it.

Kya sniffed at the image tilting her head then looked to Banner with a snort before perking up as Maria had people helping her carry in trays of food.

Since no one thought to ask our guests if they were hungry. Sorry Kya no live prey just a few rare steaks

Clint mumbled half to himself, "Not like anybody asked us if we wanted something to eat after trekking through a jungle looking for a needle."

This earned him a cuff from Natasha and he gave her a grin. He then turned his attention to Fury

"Say boss, I know that training Catalina is a big thing, but what would the chances be of getting feet in the ground and eyes in the sky to break up the Hydra problem? I mean if you have people with dual characteristics, who can change into animals or even big guys like Hulk, would the whole brainwashing thing as done by Hydra not only impact our problems, even more, when they are in control of people who can change their shape almost at will? And don't get me started on people with telepathy, telekinesis or what ever the hell tele ke something they can do as well."

 

[Asa]

It sounds like you need a demonstration of my training already. They saw my abilities with earth by age 3 water by age 4 air by 5. My powers with fire... by age 2. Grandfather has trained me well in my elemental powers.

As for fear reaction which I am guessing the one you all call Cap leading me to believe this is the fabled Captain America Grandfather spoke of. Self defense living on that island where it was a fight for my very life once I was the only one of grandfather's line alive there.

She looked to Clint.

As for those who can change it is rare. Those still on the island are not controlled and those they take from the island we never see again. I can guide you all to the villages and may be able to get them to understand you are there to help. This is not up for negotiation either Nick. Yes Grandfather spoke often of the soldier who was far older than anyone would remember and twice as stubborn as a war horse.

Fury stood there blinking. Damn if it ain't like listening to Ebenezer he mumbled. Her attention turned to Tony.

You look like the man he called Stark from one of the photos are you any kin to this Stark?

Um yeah... I'm his son. Tony.

She nods with a smile. He and your father got along quite well. Perhaps we will as well.

Looking to Kya she laughed.

You can breathe between bites you are not that hungry you took down a deer before they found us.

Clint shook his head

"I don't need to see what powers you have, thank you for offering. A lady that can control the elements is above my pay grade. But, I am sure that the angry old war-horse would not have said that you need training without reason. So you and I, we will get down to hand-to-hand training."

He glanced at the large cat

"And no proxies allowed."

Natasha grinned, "Scared of a little puddy cat Clint?"

He looked at her and with a straight face answered, "Yes."

 

[Asa]

Banner tossed the report to Nat.

Like I said that cat is no normal cat. This island apparently makes everything born on it mutant is some way.

Fury looked to Catalina. You can go with us but when we get back from the Island you will learn how to fight in our world. You are a member of SHIELD and I am giving the option for you to also join this team as well if you wish.

Let's just get back to the island and see if they will listen to reason. Banner...

You can call me Bruce. He nodded to her.

Very well... Bruce will need to come withe to speak to them... a little added proof that outsiders can protect them.

Kya moved Clint over towards Catalina and Bruce with headbutt and nudges then tried to move Nat and Fury well.

I think that Kya has chosen her wards team... what are the rest of us chopped liver?

Tony laughed.

"Well, that would explain why she went at you the first time Tony, you smelled like chopped liver."

Clint was not very happy about getting headbutted and nudged by a cat large enough to have him for lunch, but he wasn't going to argue. The people on the island needed to know that they will be protected and defended from people like Hydra. As an afterthought, he gave Kya a stroke between the ears and since he expected to lose an arm, the soft grumble of pleasure she gave, was not what he had expected.

"If Fury is going out in the field, we need to order up a few more body bags, Hydra might just show up to try and stop him."

 

[Asa]

Catalina shook her head.

If him going would be an issue it will not be required Kya is just herding those together she thinks will be able to help get through to them.

Kya snorted and swatted at a small bot that had appeared and was attempting to clean up her meal.

Kya...

Catalina called to her feline friend. Be ready I do believe we will be returning to the island soon.

The massive cat snorted and laid down to wait.

"Oh I think it is a good thing, he does seem a bit rusty lately, sitting up on the heli-carrier."

"That will be enough Hawkeye." Fury didn't quite snap at Clint, but it was enough to convey the message. Clint grinned and nodded, knowing that he had reached the number of wisecracks that Fury would let by, for now.

"One thing that I have learned Catalina, if Fury wants to do something, he will. If he doesn't want to, it will not happen. Stays up to him though."

He looked around, "With all of this sorted, can I go eat something now?"

 

[Asa]

Fury nodded not sure why he had not grabbed food already.

Catalina I will coordinate from here and if my presence is needed I can get there.

She nodded and walked over to a window staring out curiosity getting the better of her.

How far from ground are we?

Her eyes never leaving the vast stretch of clouds and sky as she spoke.

The one you called Jarvis when will we meet him? Or is he the like the... radio waves sounds Grandfather told me about?

Clint left the rest of the team in the briefing room, he headed to his quarters, where he had a quick shower to wash off most of the grime and dirt accumulated while trekking through the jungle, and after dressing, he went to the mess hall to get himself something to eat.

Sitting down, he started to eat and looked at the crew moving about, eating and chatting among themselves.

 

[Asa]

Nat walked over.

I know you... what's on your mind about Catalina?

She laughed.

Should we set her up with Steve?

He looked up at Nat

"Set her up with Steve if you want to have murder on your hands. Steve is not ready for somebody like Catalina. I am thinking more along the lines of how quickly Fury indoctrinated her into SHIELD and how she did not even resist the idea. Almost like this have been planned ahead and that we are only seeing this as part of the play."

He shook his head and waved away his words,

"I am just being paranoid, don't worry about it."

Nat sat down and looked at him for a long moment, "You miss them, don't you?"

He nodded without answering and she gave his hand a squeeze, "I am glad that you are here Clint, we need you here more than anybody would admit."

 

[Asa]

Nat leaned close to talk so only Clint could hear her.

When the letter first arrived and Fury started acting weird I did a little digging. Turns out her grandfather was responsible for how long lived Fury is as well. He was trying to find ways to help humanity and mutant kind. He actually took the time to explain all the scientific to Fury and was a close friend of his if you can believe that. Fury couldn't save him so... he is going to go overboard with her penance for failings. Nothing you or I understand now is it. Hell he even threw I b in Steve's face that he owes her grandfather a debt too. We need to keep an eye on this and keep him level headed.

Maria sat down and was talkingnto Catalina about Kya and making comparisons to what must be her sleeker cousins thst the rest of the world knows about.

A drone alarm started blaring as Mria tried to beat Fury to the computer panel with Steve close behind.


Raiding party on the island. Weapons up let's go!!! Banner we need...

Banner turning to Hulk as Tony and Rhodey suited up. Lets GO!!!

The alarm interrupted any further discussions between them, Clint sighed and pushed his half-eaten meal away.

"I swear the universe is against me today."

Together with Natasha, he headed out, coming to the drop ship and boarding with the rest of the team, taking a seat. Moments later the ship flew out of the hangar, heading towards the island.
