I'm thinking if guys work hard enough to form a new connection with a lady of Lit, why then turn around and screw it up. Don't make sense to me.

Because some guys and yes females too, aren't honest about themselves and their life. And make connections they never had any intentions of fulfilling. Creating something that really doesn't exist. For the benefit of their fantasies to fill the empty void in their life.
Their liking and caring are just false pretenses.
