Reread. I just found the series, read the first book then for distracted. So I'm rereading before I go on.

It’s a wonderful series. Make sure you read the ones co authored by Eric Flint that come much later. While they started out as not main line they are key. There is at least one book near the end that seems a bit pointless but will make sense in retrospect. It got somewhat panned by fans at the time.
