What is this thing?

9 Inches? Hmm... I thought I read somewhere on this board that the average vagina was 4 inches, and expanded to about 6 inches upon arrousal. A little help?
The average vagina is anywhere from three to six inches deep, and, like you said, it increases upon arousal.

Chris (my bf) thinks that it is more like a hard button (sorry for my bad description).

I was just wondering what you meant about me being a virgin and depth. I don't think that my hymen is intact (after seeing the pics that SweetErika posted, thanks so much!!!) so I was wondering if you meant that my vagina is smaller because I have not had sex or what? Will my vagina ever be able to accomodate my bf (7 inches)?

Thanks so much for all your help! I really really appreciate it!
You're welcome, Tallblonde, and I wholeheartedly agree with those who have applauded you two on mature decision making. :)

You'll stretch, and he may go in the space around the cervix called the fornix. Don't be alarmed, but some women experience pain when their cervix is hit (sometimes every time, or just at certain times in their cycle), although others really enjoy it. I just don't want you to freak out and think there's something wrong with you or he doesn't fit if it's uncomfortable if he hits it. This can be easily solved with more shallow thrusting and being careful in positions like doggy style that allow for deeper penetration.

THIS is a really excellent primer on lube. Water-based certainly does dry up and can get sticky faster, but much depends on the brand/formulation of lube, and we've never had a problem with it during sex. It can be "reactivated" with a little water or saliva, though I've found my own lubrication keeps it plenty slick. We like Wet (Original, not Light), and a little bottle has lasted about a year. There's also great recommendations in The Blank Manual. Most water based lubes contain gylcerin, and that can cause yeast infections for some women, but it usually isn't a problem. We just bought silicone lube, and absolutely love it for sex, massage, moistuization, and a bunch of other things, so that might be worth a try as well.

Thanks for answering my question SweetErika. My boyfriend and I did a bit more exploring last night, and from what I have read, he put his fingers in my fornix. It felt a little weird at first, but then I relaxed and it felt kind of good. I think there was a question about birth control, and I am currently on the pill and have been for 6 months, and we are also planning on using a condom. Just want to be safe.

I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has responded to my question and really taking the time to help.

Hi! I don't quite know if this is the right forum for this question. My boyfriend and I are about to have sex for the first time, and I am a virgin (my boyfriend knows) and my boyfriend is a virgin too. Recently, I have asked that he finger me to bring me to orgasm, and he will. But the thing is, he says that when he sticks his fingers in my vagina, he feels a little "flap of skin." He says that it feels hard and that there seems to be a hole there, but he is too afraid to stick his fingers in there.

His fingers are about 6 inches long, and we don't know what this is. I have scheduled an appointment with my ob/gyn for December 13, but I really want to have sex before then. Is this my hymen? He feels this "flap of skin" when he sticks his fingers about 4 inches into me.

He doesn't want to hurt me with his penis (7 inches) so we would like to know what this is. I don't think that this is my cervix. Also, when he puts his fingers to one side on the area with the flap of skin, he can push his fingers in farther.

Thanks so much for your help, we really appreciate it.

Love,
Rita and Chris
I have the same thing, it sounds like, and it always worried me. If I hit it with a toy, it hurts.

Ding ding ding... Say hello to your cervix.

See guys, there are disadvantages to a big dick!

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a cock size thread. :(

i was wondering how long it would be before someone mentioned the cervix... it seemed like the obvious answer at first, i still was too lazy to put any input into the thread...until now

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about being able to accomodate your boyfriend. Take it slow and easy and you'll be just fine. :)

I can take a nine inch toy with minimal discomfort

Normal vaginas stretch greatly during arousal, and can accomodate just about any size penis or toy though. Experience and pregnancy generally make a difference as well.

Now you're just bragging! :p

Erika's right on the expansion part. Plus, some women are deeper than others, or probably more correctly, have more elasticity to their vagina.

I'm still not so sure, though, because I can go past it.

Ok, assuming you don't mean through it and into your uterus, when you can go past your cervix, you're going into the fornix, which forms a little moat around your cervix. The fornix expands and shifts along with your cervix (which shifts upwards) when you're aroused - that's why you can accommodate more than 4 inches when you're having sex.

Oh, God. Let's not get into that again.
