I like to carry a small purse, and I just cleaned it out, but here goes...

an address book (you never know who you'll meet or who you'll need to call)
folding pair of scissors
Vaseline Lip Therapy
a pen
a keyring with keys to the office (keyring is from the tattoo shop across the alley from work and says "your mom's gonna shit in your pants!")
numerous credit cards
voter registration card
phone card, movie rental cards, atm card, ss card, drivers license, library card, insurance card, etc etc
small calculator
checkbook
stamps
one check I need to cash
an envelope with paint swatches (I'm working on my new house)
coupons to a frame shop and clothing shop
some business cards
and one metal hair clippie clipped to the strap for when my hair's buggin' me

you'll notice I didn't mention cash...

geesh, this makes me sound all business...

Well, I'm stopping back in and have to joing the "what's in your purse" thread....
The usual - wallet, checkbook, sunglasses case, palm pilot
then the less than ususal -
ID badge
business card case
lots of folded up pieces of paper with various notes, teacher names and emails/phone numbers, a list of all the schools in the district with addresses and phone numbers
a survey and a reply for the SCIFI book club that need to be mailed.
coupons and gift certificates that I carry for my kids
floss
carmex
hand lotion
Excedrin and Advil
lots of business cards for various doctors and other people I need to keep track of
lots of cards from this store or that sub shop that get punched when I make a purchase
the card that has the kids social security numbers written on it
lots of pens - a grey Cross, a black Space Pen, Several Gel pens in Pink, Red, Green, Purple, a couple of assorted ball point pens
toothpicks
My daughter's passport waitng to get to the bank (along with her birth certificate)
a nail file and an emory board
the original model for my husband's wedding ring
a brush
a lint brush
lots of runpled kleenex and empty gum wrappers
2 sets of car keys
a key ring with a flashlight that doesn't work any more
a sewing kit
and even a LIPSTICK - (my god how strangel, probably bought about 10 years ago.)
Oh, and lets not forget all the receipts
and of course, the Biodots to measure my stress level. ( I suspect finding naything in the suitcase is stressful enough.)

Oh I forgot to mention, old SS may claim he doesn't carry a purse. Technically, he's right. He uses mine and I get to carry it.....add a wallet, Another glasses case, another set of keys and sometimes his meds

I've always been like this. I think a lot of people go the other way because of having kids and carry stuff for them and when the kids are grown just have gotten in the habit of having a lot with them.

That's a good analogy. I have been weeding it down for a long time now. If I could get away with an even smaller purse I would. In my defense, when I was in college I always carried a bottle opener (much to the delight of my guy friends), sunglasses, and some mace someone gave me. The bottle opener scratched the sunglasses, I quit drinking after I graduated, and the mace was confiscated at the Austin airport (I forgot I had it.)

I haven't always been so mild mannered....
