What to do in the US for four days?

If you come to Oregon you better bring A, or I'll . . . well I'll find something bad to do to you.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything to see beetween Chicago and Phoenix? I'm thinking about driving to Chicago and flying to Phoenix from there.

Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. http://www.nps.gov/yell/

map: http://data2.itc.nps.gov/parks/yell/ppMaps/ACF337B.pdf

My family spent over a week there on vacation in the late 80's. We could have used twice that amount of time

Some of the geyser basins are really pretty. There is a hundred year old lodge by Old Faithful. There is a "Grand Canyon" there as well with lower falls (Canyon Village Northern border of the park). Very impressive to see.

If you only have a couple of days I'd say stay at the Old Faithful Lodge (close enough to have a good view from the second floor balcony), then see the Lower falls of the Canyon area and the Paint Pot trail which is a boardwalk that travels very close to the springs, the water flows under the boardwalk in most areas, and it is very coloerful, and the Norris Geyser Basin Trail which has the Echnius Geyser which has seating fairly close to it, and it erupts every few hours (it used to erupt every hour and a half or so, but it has gotten more erratic in the last few years) which is almost better than Old Faithful because you can get so much closer to it.

Didn't the fire from several years back get that lodge? Well, I don't know, I just heard the fire got very close to Ol' Faithful.

A wonderful place...fasinating. Yellowstone, Ol' Faithful, the badlands, Mount Rushmore...

Well, I'm assuming it's all still there. I was there in 1962.

The Redwoods of Californinia. If you liike camping, there is a trail and it takes a couple of days to walk it. We camped out the first night, then finished the trail, the next day. The redwood forest was great and there were brown and spotted newts in the streams. The whole thing is a camper/hiker's dream.

There was a fire there...I forget the year, but a lot of the larger redwoods were lost. But, those still there were still amazing.

Oh, in case something's changed with that...I was there in the mid 1980s.

If you mean the fires of 1988? We were there in September 89. Yes, the southern part of the park had lots of burnt trees, but we were amazed at how much greenery had grown back in just a year. We saw it because we turned left when we should have turned right. The reduced vegitation made it easy to see a deer that was about 50 feet away from the road.

The northern area of the park looked better. I think the fires got very close to the Lodge, but the lodge itself was spared. The area around the Lodge wasn't nearly as burned clean as the southern area was.

I wonder if I can find any of the photos we took while we were there?

I'm coming to the US the 7th July and I'm leaving the 24th. But it's only the days when my girlfriend is working that I'm trying to figure out what to do.

Well if your going to be in that god forsaken city of Chicago then most of your time could be sucked up there with the food and seeing the lake and so forth. Well if you were in Phoenix on the 16th I could think of something to pass a few hours, the bdsm club I belong to has our monthly munch downtown.

We are going to be in New York the 16th but A needs to fly back to Phoenix that evening so she can go to work on Monday. What time do you usually have the munch? We might be able to make it :)

200 PM Arizona time that would shake out to being 5PM with the daylight savings and time zone difference in NewYork so... I think its for naught.

I love hotel rooms with nothing I'm responsible for or have to do, a few good books and a nice pool! Also nibbles, you gotta have nibbles!

*hugs* But sadly, the only good thing about Kansas is you. It's flat, it's boring, and it has WAY too many tornado's.
