What to do next after throwing the kitchen sink at a story?

Like I said at the start of this mess, go fishing.

Have you read any of my fishing stories? No fishing were harmed in the writing of those stories.

So I put a lot into Coleoidphilia, the sex bits, the non-sex bits. It worked out pretty well I think. But now I’m a bit 🤷 about what on Earth to do next. I have 11 draft stories, mostly shorter or episodic, I’ve even posted the beginning of a new story. But I am a bit, “where do I go from here?”

Is this common?

Do not get too worried about it. I have over 150 started in my "in process" folder. Some will never be finished. Some will be abandoned or deleted. And some, my muse smacks me upside my head and yells, "What the hell are you waiting for?" and the rest of the story clatters into my mind like a thousand pieces of a jigsaw puzzle poured from a box, and I go into a frenzy of hammering the keyboard. I'm not embarrassed by all those starts, for they are just seeds waiting for the right time to be coaxed to bloom into a story.

So when an idea hits you, no matter how wild or absurd, write it down! And then let it ferment in your head while you write something else. Some of my best storylines have intruded on my little pea brain while working on something else. The human subconscious mind can do wonderful things if you let it do its thing.

Stretching my talents doesn't have to mean going outside the subject area I'm comfortable with or like. It does mean I need to find more depth, breadth and emotion in the ones I do write. Then when I find an area I really want to write about, I can do so in a better manner, with more skill and perhaps pull the reader farther into that world.

Enough pontificating on my part. Time to do some serious road apple scooping.

You do realize that as a fellow fisherman (experienced preeminent water thrasher) I adhere to the age old rule that the first liar never stands a chance. Of course none of MY fishing stories are lies! Everyone is the solid unvarnished truth!

In mine, the fishing is true. As for the rest of it.... Maybe, maybe not.

If you've got eleven draft stories (I don't know how complete they are), then you should have plenty of options available. Or maybe you don't like any of them?

I think maybe I wasn’t clear enough about the tone of my post…

The French (kinda) translates as Miraculous Ladybug : The College Years.

Em
It was confusing perhaps because you mentioned the fourteen-year-olds and the French title in the same sentence. If it's "The College Years," then there shouldn't be a problem.

Marinette in Ladybug is 14. Hence any fan fic would have to be set in college or later.

It was a [bad] joke.

It's not so bad, but it did go over my head. The title must simply be "Miraculous Ladybug," which I didn't catch the first time around.

I see, it was a TV show and a movie called, "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir." I never heard of it. Amazing how everybody has references that other people know nothing about.

Sounds like you guys are talking about my story The Fantastic Hotel, Part 2

I have to agree with the contest or story event.
I did the 750-word and Pink Orchid events, both were a lot of fun. I have a story done for On the Job and will be starting one soon for the Geek Pride event. Each time, I started out initially thinking, "Nah, not my thing." Until I got an idea. I'm kind of hooked now. Not to mention your work gets more attention than just being on the NEW list, which is never a bad thing.

I have 4,000 words of an “on the job story” done 😊.

I don't think that would fly. Per the Lit Content Guidelines.

To that end, we DO NOT publish works of any type featuring the following content:
  • Celebrity stories or fan fiction in which the characters are artificially aged - that is, under 18 years old in reality or in the source material, but made to be over 18 for the story

Wow, I never even had 150 ideas at one time. But thanks for reminding us to write ideas down. I've been negligent about that recently.

Can’t be true. People do grow up. Except Peter Pan.

And anyway: IT WAS A JOKE!!!!

It’s actually really good - if deeply silly. It attracts lots of adult fans.

I'm sure it does. Is that classified as anime? That usually appeals to me only in drawings. The sound of voices in cartoons is not my thing.

It’s French-written and directed (and set in Paris). There used to be more than one animation studio involved, at least one of which is South Korean. It certainly pays homage to anime, even with some intercut 2D sections. But it’s not Japanese.

It usually goes the other way: older people pretending that they are much younger. There was something like that in Lena Dunham's Girls where she pretends to be - well young while with her boyfriend. I've only read about the scene; I haven't seen it. But it may fly on television, but it would never be allowed here.

It suggests an idea for me, but I'll put in on another site that will accept it.
