when someone on the BB pisses the hell out of me, I try to avoid posting for twenty-four hours. By then I usually have calmed down enough so that if I decide to post a reply, I can do so coherently without all the knee-jerk emotion behind my words.

This is the key. Everybody gets pissed off and upset at others, but you only make yourself look bad by responding in kind. Time is definitely good for allowing you to cool off and address an emotion-inducing post. If I do let myself post immediately after someone really angers me, I try to "step outside of myself" and try to imagine how an unbiased observer just coming into the conversation would respond.

It's sometimes hard to swallow the bile, but if you can do it, it works every time.
