The last of the goat cheese on baguette, and some Merlot
If I hadn't been so lazy I'd have cut up an apple too. Good thing I already had one for lunch

sunday gravy (on friday.)

it's...amazing. really. i think traditional sunday gravy calls for meatballs, but this recipe i found didn't use them...honestly, i don't think i could have added anything else to the pan anyway.

as the sauce simmered for three hours, it did that (beautiful) thing where the meat flavored the sauce and the sauce flavored the meat....oh em gee. it's hard to tell, but there's italian sausage, beef short ribs that were shredded and added back to the sauce once they fell off the bone, and a smoked neck bone. i seared them all first, and that smoked neck bone really added depth to the sauce; not in an overpowering way, but in a "ooh, that hint of smokiness is nice" way.

it's amazing...really.

Some Italian-Americans call it gravy: Why, since it's base food is a FRUIT
Some Italian-Americans call it sauce: Because that's what it is, cuisine-ly speaking
But my family would call it "Is that all?"
