When Darkness Falls

"Does he know why they attacked him here? They were quite persistent for it to be just a random thing. They said something about being a friend of Rob. Do you know who Rob is?"

Amelia could hear the sirens in the distance and realized she couldn't just leave. The police would come here looking for her and she had given her name and badge number. She tossed her car keys to Alaric and said,

"I have to stay here. Get them to the doctor and I will catch up with you later."

Dahmnall

"Aye rob," patrick said "He came raving into the church about vampires, only he didnt know they were vampires" he said coughing "He said he saw them at the docks." "FUCK" dahmnall said "i went to the docks last night, only i coulnt find any." "Aye he said they were there." patrick said. Dahmnall looked down on his wounded uncle, who had been like a father as well as an uncle. "I'll kill them all." Dahmnall said with a fire in his eye "Every fucking one."

Amelia got out of the car and looked around. Her adrenline was still going and she was nervous about being there alone. After the noise of the gunfight everything seemed eerily quiet. The cops should be here soon she reminded herself and decided that since there was no more gun fire, the vampires had ran off. But just to be on the safe side she decided to wait in the church.

She heard what Father Patrick had to say about Rob.

"Try to keep him talking and feel free to give him something to drink." she told Dahmnall and closed the car door. Keeping a sharp look out she walked back to the front doors of the church.

Alaric

I looked at her as she gave me the keys, nodding I turned to Dahmnall as I heard his uncle talking "we should take a look at the docks sometime later, however your uncle first." I turned on the car and put it into drive and zoomed off towards the doctor we had went to the other day. I had spent an extra 20 minutes going off in random directions to make sure we lost anyone who was tailing us, although I seriously doubted we could shake vampiric pursuit like this considering that I was a hunter and Dahmnall was a slayer gifted with regeneration, then there was the blood that his uncle was spilling out. As we got there, I stopped the car and looked around.

Listening to their conversations, Lorien was enticed by the wicked smell death gave. She wanted to taste the priest. Even though it would mean literally biting the hell out of him. She sniffed the air and decided a pursuit on foot would be good. She kept the car in close sight as it made its way twisting and turning throughout the alley ways. When she say Alaric step from the car, she automatically hit attack mode. It was unusual to say the least, as to why she would suddenly want to attack. The blood she had taken was nothing. Was there something in that blood that would make her killer instinct come alive?

Without realization, she stumbled from the cover of darkness towards Alaric.

"Help me. Please help me. Something is wrong with the drink! Im turning Alaric FUCKING HELP ME" she screamed as the pain grabbed her insides and began twisting. Her fangs bared and her eyes clouded over, she was a sight no hunter wanted to see unless he was on the giving end.

"PLEASE. IT BURNS ITS FUCKING KILLING ME!!! HELP ME ALARIC" again she wailed.

Amelia crouched in the entryway of the church for as long as she could, but the building was quickly filling with smoke and bits of ash and red hot embers were drifting down from the roof. It would not be long before the entire building would be engulfed in flames.

Fortunatly, the first of several police cars screeched to a halt on the road just outside of the church. Two uniformed officers got out with guns drawn, looking about while taking cover behind their car. More sirens could be heard in the distance closing rapidly. It wouldn't be long before this place was swarming with emergency personnel.

When the officers arrived, Amelia was glad to get away from the burning building. She put away her gun and got out her badge. As she walked towards the nearest officer, she identified who she was.

The first of the two officers hustled Amelia away from the front of the church, letting her sit down in the back of the squad car.

"Shit are you all right? What's happening here?"

Other cars started to arrive, setting up a perimiter. Once an 'officer needs help' call went out, every cop in the city was likely to respond. Fire trucks werer also enrout, but it was unsure if they would be able to save the house or not. The church weas already burning brightly now.

Another cop, this one wearing sargent's stripes came over towards them. "Detective Callahan," he said. "You make the call? What's the situation?"

As Amelia was hustled away she looked back at the church and the house. She was surprised at how bad the fire was. The church was going fast and the house wasn't going to last long too.

"I'm not hurt." she told the officers that were helping her. When the Sargent walked up she answered,

"Yes I made the call. I'm a friend of the family and when I found no one at home I gave them a call and went back to the church. I was in the church when someone started shooting at me. I was sure I hit one of them which was why I called for the paramedics. I don't know how many there were, sir."

The sargent listened intently, occasionally giving instructions into the raido microphone which was connected to his shoulder.

"We'll have the place cordoned off and send word to the local hospitals, to see if there are any recent gunshot victims come straggling in." he paused as a couple of firefighters dragged a hose across the pavement. Soon a fine froth of water was being sprayed onto the burning church.

"You need to go to the hospital and get checked out, just to be sure. We'll need a report on this too detective."

He gave more directions into his raido. "We'll need to find the preacher that lived here too and talk to him. Any idea on where he might have gone to or who'd want to come to his place with a gun?"

"I got him on the phone before the attack started and he said that he is out of town. I have no idea who would want to attack a priest. I'm ok, sir. If you don't mind I'll just write up the report and head home."

He shook his head at Amelia. "No. Get yourself checked out and cleaned up. You're a mess and I'll need your gun for the balistics report too. You know the procedure Detective Callahan, Leutenant Akins will have both our asses if I just let the only witness wander off the scene." He flagged down the recently arrived paramedics as they approached.
"Don't worry Amelia, we'll get it all situated and get you some time off to rest."

The paramedics started their routine, taking Amelia's temperature and blood pressure, asking a handful of questions and the like as they escorted her over towards the ambulance.

"Detective Callahan," the Sgt called back at her. "If the preacher was out of town and you only fired at one suspect who fled the scene, then whose blood is all over you?"

Shit, Amelia thought and looked down at her clothes. She could see that she had blood on her shirt and jeans. She didn't know how much longer she could keep lieing to the Sargent. Maybe the priest was wrong about the police and the hospitals being owned by vampires. But she had to protect Father Patrick, those vampires where after him so if she had to keep making things up she would have to. She looked back at the officer and said,

"I'll write up the report and I'm sure everything will be clear then. I said that I was sure I shot one of them but I went over to him to see and had to find cover when the rest of them started shooting at me again. Maybe they took him with them. I can give a description."

Amelia started to give a vague description of the vampire that Patrick had shot, then continued.

"I'm sure you will prefer that description be in my report and I will work with a sketch artist because he may go into a hospital for help. I'll leave my gun with you if you'd like. I don't know about the blood and didn't realize I had any on me."

Amelia walked up to the Sargent and an officer came up with plastic gloves and took her gun.

"There was something funny, sir. They seemed to be superstitious about entering the church."

She watched to see if he had any reaction to that and then turned and walked back to the paramedics and to the ambulance.

Alaric

I kept my calm as the girl came up to me. She was screaming about needing to die. I sighed as I saw her turn, and immediately my hand came out with one of my blades in it. I decided to take pity on her and banged the bottom of the guard against her head, hard enough to normally crack the skull and give a resulting concussion. I hoped that that would be enough to pacify her for the time being. I turned around to check on Dahmnall and his uncle for a moment.

Leola

Leola paced the floor of her room. She looked about admiring it. Finally Sylvia had gotten everything unpacked. She saw her things all in their place and she was beginning to feel like she was home again. If you were to look about the room it would almost seem like a spoiled little girls room. Everything was pink and blue with some splashes of dark red. China dolls lined the shelves all pretty and perfect just like her, she mused to herself.

There was a small knock at the door and Sylvia came in. "Madam, there is a message for you." Sylvia said quietly, handing Leola a small card, then left the room just the same as she had come in, quiet and meek. Just as Sylvia should be in her presence.

Leola opened the letter...

Dear glorious benefactress,

All has progressed as planed, I am eagerly waiting your orders.

Your humble servant

Fry

Fry walked down the alley. He couldn’t have guessed the turn things were taking. How could he go along with this. He shook his head, he knew exactly how he was going along with this, he had to believe that he could…. Just don’t think about it. He couldn’t handle thinking about it. He had to keep his eye on the goal and hopefully they would make it through this. He ran his hand through his brown hair. He was a mess, he knew that, he was hardly a shadow of the calm and compassionate man he had been before. It had all been Sara.

Fry sank up against the alley wall, giving in to his despair. It had all been Sara. Sara had been his rock. He could come home from work after a difficult day, and she knew exactly how to make things right for him. Nothing bad could touch him as long as Sara was around. He tried not to think about how she had taken his death.

Fry pulled himself up from the ground. It would all be over soon, soon My Love, this nightmare will be over. He wondered if Amelia had to tell Sara that he wouldn’t be coming home anymore. Oh god…. Amelia…. Will you ever be able to forgive me?

The sargent 'hmmed' at the last comment. "Some sort of cult perhaps. Maybe a hate crime then. Either way, you get yourself checked out and have that report on my desk by tomorrow."

The sargent's expression softened as the paramedics lifted her into the ambulance. "And for God's sake Amelia, try to take care of yourself."

dahmnall

Dahmnall saw Alaric get out of the car "Goddamn it" he thought "We need to hurry and hes out talking to girls."

Kyrev had spent a wonderful day sleeping in the home of his new aquaintance. Certainly, she did live in luxury. However, he did not wish to outstay his welcome, and as soon as the sun had set, he had slipped out and walked back to where he had first encountered the violent humans.

There was not much left at the scene other than the remains of some dried blood. He hoped that the doctor he had guided them to had not only helped save a life, but convinced them that he was not an enemy.

The air was different tonight. Something was burning, and, feeling curious, Kyrev decided to investigate.

It wasn't long before the heat of a blaze was felt, and not long after that when he could see what was going on. A church was blazing away, surrounded by police cars. A nearby house was also on fire. He walked a little closer. It was then that his gaze settled on the female officer - the same one from last night! The one with the other, angry man. He wanted to find out just what was going on directly from her, but it was unlikley he'd get close on his own. Instead, he stood his ground and waited to be seen

As the paramedics lifted Amelia into the ambulance she noticed the strange vampire from the night before. She had appreciated his help very much and gave him a quick wave before the paramedics closed the ambulance doors and drove off with her to the hospital.

A doctor quickly checked her over and found bruising that had occured when Patrick had run into her but that was all. After they let her go she stepped outside of the hospital and pulled out her cell phone to call her sister.

Kyrev smiled at the wave, and bowed his head slightly as the door to the ambulance closed and it sped away. She remembered him, and he had been of help and in time. Good. He knew where the local hospital was, and could guess that was where the ambulance was headed. Turning on his heel, he walked slowly until he was out of sight of the officers before breaking into a jog, and then a run, hoping to get to his goal around the same time as the ambulance. If he did, he could easilly sneak in and wait until the officer was alone before finding out just what has been going on

Fry

He saw Amelia step out of the hospital from across the street and start to dial on her cell phone. He hesitated for a moment, could he really do this to her, but he had so much to loose if he didn't. He stepped out of the alley into the light, and stood staring at Amelia.

Amelia looked up as she answered her cell phone that had started ringing. She didn't even get out a hello when she saw a sight that stopped her in her tracks. Her heart started pounding and thought, Oh my god that man looks like Fry. It can't be him. Her partner had been missing for at least six months. She stumbled a little and started to walk over to him.

Fry

He saw Amelia react to him, he slowly turning and walked into the alley, his heart pounding the whole way. Half of him prayed that this would work, the other half prayed it wouldn't. He reached the end of the alley, as Amelia reached the mouth of it.

She watched him turn and walk down the alley and started walking faster.

"It can't be Fry. It's not him."

She got to the start of the alley and he was at the end.

"Stop! Please wait!" Amelia called out and started running towards him.
