When Darkness Falls

Leola

"I do hope it is sooner than that. I have many things afoot Leola, and I do not care to have my time wasted needlessly."

Leola's heart would have jumped out of her chest if she had one. She didn't want to make Dracius angry. It was by his good will that she was here, and she didn't want to spoil it.

"I am certain that you have not gotten any real imformation from her, perhaps I might be able to pursuade her to bring her friends more quickly...."

"I haven't really gotten anything, put of coarse my Lord, she is part of the gift I offered. I only ask one small favor from you, can I watch."

Sylvia

"One last thing, if something should go wrong, give the little girls this, it will put them to sleep. Secure them in the bathroom, I don't think I can stay much longer." She handed Amelia a small bottle and the instructions to the garage.
"Just incase your friends can't find you, and I can't come back."

Sylvia started to edge towards the door, and stepped outside.

Amelia

Amelia thanked Sylvia and was greatful for the drugs. The girls needed to get some sleep before they made their escape and sleep would have been impossible after watching their father die.

Amelia looked down at Fry's body. Fry was a big man which would make it very difficult to move his body to where the girls couldn't see him. Instead Amelia grabbed some pillows and blankets off of the bed and walked into the bathroom. She comforted the girls and got them to take the sleeping pills and set up a bed for them in the bathroom.

After they settled down she placed a cross above the bathroom door and secured it with gum that she found in one of the girl's pockets. The next thing she did was place the second cross above the door in the bedroom that led to the hallway.

Dracius pondered Leola's request for a brief moment. She had funny quirks to be sure, but she also had traits which Dracius admired in his own way, like her lack of humanity. Despite this, Leola was not one of his creations. In fact, dracius didn't know, or care, who had turned her. She was useful and to some degree, trustworthy.
The only thing that kept her from being truly in Dracius's favor was again, her odd quirks. Sometimes her little games and entertainments, ran across his own plots and schemes, and Dracius did not tollerate fools lightly...even attractive and charming ones. Fortunatly, Leola had learned this lesson well.

He shrugged. " I am not concerned with your being there, but do not interfere."

Dahmnall

Elizabeth didnt seem to want to talk, so Dahmnall didnt try anymore. They pulled up in front of his house and Dahmnall got out and opened her door. "Welcome to
the house." he said

Elizabeth

As the car stopped, Elizabeth had been trying to remember everything she knew about Dahmnall's brother. As everyone got out and he showed her to the house, she asked,

"I'm sorry Dahmnall but what happened to your brother?"

Dahmnall

"We don't know. He disappeared, we have theories of course, but we dont know." Dahmnall said getting real quiet. He walked up and unlocked his door and opened it for her. "Maybe someday will know."

"Then let me show you the way." Leola stared at Dracius. Her maker had told her stories about him, about his hunt for the hunters, of his lust for blood and power, she was in complete awe of him, and feared him alittle. She would make him see what use she could be to him, and in return he would share his power with her, she knew it. She looked up at him adoringly.

"This way," She opened the door and led the way down the stairs to Amelia's room. As they were approaching the room, she saw her servant scamper out.

Dracius took a moment to compose himself, that is to say, he simply made himself look less travel worn, and set aside his oversized trenchcoat and the sword it concealed.
Once upon a time, Dracius had been quite dashing and handsome. From time to time, one might look at him and still see some vestiges of that handsome man that existed so long ago, but in these modern nights, his experiences and adventures had altered even his unchanging features for the worse. His hair was now white and his features looked, haggared at best, inhuman at the worst.

None of this was his concern however as he strode down the hall, silent as death. As he neared the door he felt something like a series of tiny pinpricks...and promptly ignored them, just as he ignored the fleeing child and the female vampire who trailed behind him at the moment.

The doorknob turned and quietly swung inward of it's own volation allowing Dracius entry, As he passed the threshold of the room, the tiny cross, fell from it's perch to the floor. He paused, bending to pick up the tiny thing. Again the pin pricks, but they were insignificant, even at the cross made tiny hisses where the metal touched alabaster skin.

"So tiny, so frail," he said taking yet another step towards the woman, almost absently as he studied the cross in his hand. "an insignificant thing really, this thing, but what it represents...now that is much more...enlightening."

He finally looked up at the woman, not but a few feet away from him now and held his arm out, offering the cross to her.

"Don't you think so child?"

Amelia sat down against the bathroom door and could catch some of the sounds of the girl's breathing while they slept. She looked down at the white dress that she was wearing and wondered if there would be anything more depressing to die in. Why not jeans, a t-shirt, and her gun?

Getting creeped out by the cadaver in the room, she got up and pulled a sheet over Fry. She heard the squeek of the the door knob turning and looked up. It was like something out of a horror movie with all of her attention on the door and wondering what was on the other side. She wiped the sweat off her palms on to the dress and backed up. The door opened and a strange looking man stepped in side and picked up the cross that had fallen on the floor.

He may have been able to pick up the cross but the blood went cold in Amelia's veins and she knew he couldn't be human. As he took a step forward she took a step back towards the curtain rod she had previously liberated from the wall.

He held out the cross and said,
"Don't you think so child?"

"I think some people expect more out of it than what is there and tend to find themselves disappointed."

"I think some people expect more out of it than what is there and tend to find themselves disappointed."

"Ah," he alsmost whispered. "Perhaps so, perhaps some simply do not know what to look for..or do not wish to know, thinking that they will not like the truth..or even that they themselves cannot believe in the truth. In any case, there is such a hypocracy in religion nowadays."

Seeing as she did not wish to take the cross from him, he tossed it on the bed nearby.

"Once religion was absolute. You believed or you died, of course, most people were told just what to believe, but well, that's another matter for another time. Perhaps you will be entertaining me with that conversation later, but for now, let us stick to the basic formalities. I do not know you, yet I had hoped that I might."

"What is your name child?"

Amelia was finding that she put too much faith in that cross's ability to protect her. She also found something sacrilegious about the cross in this man's hand and didn't want to touch it. To her relief he didn't continue to offer it to her but threw it away.

"My name is Amelia."

"Simple and polite...as well as the minimum you could have answered without lying or refusing." he said, sitting on the corner of the bed. "But a start at least. It is a pleasure to meet you Amelia, I look forward to knowing you soon. I know a great many people...although not all of them are aware of it."

There was the faintest trace of a smile on his lips, but it vanished quickly. "Still, 'Amelia' is only half of a name, what is your full name, my dear and what is it that you do for a living?"

Amelia

Amelia frowned at the looking forward to knowing you soon comment and trying feel less like a trapped deer said,

"Detective Amelia Callahan. What's your name?"

He bowed, or at least nodded his head in a formal way of greeting.

"Again, it is a pleasure to meet you. I have many names, although I doubt any of them would matter to you. I am simply an organizer of things, striving to make order from chaos."

"It has been mentioned that you have some friends, some rather unique friends in fact, who actually believe they are going around, killing vampires in the night. I would like to know who they are."

Leola let out a gasp of surprise when Dracius picked up the cross. She couldn't beleive it. She stepped into the room behind him.

When Dracius started to talk in gentle tones to Amelia, Leola was surprised. She normally prefered a mental game but had expected savagery from Dracius. She had been anticipating the moment when he would tear Amelia apart, but she was beginning to enjoy this game too. The waiting for the brutality, the toying with his prey.

Amelia was thinking that at least his manners didn't leave her wondering about his sanity as Leola's did but it left her feeling like he was trying to talk to a child.

"I don't think that those friends are really your type. I'm mean, such a unique individual such as yourself with so many names, why should you find interest in them."

"We are all unique Ms Calahan, or is it Missus? In one way or another. Still, these friends of yours, their night time occupations are of some interest to me and thusly, I find them of interest. I would like to meet them."

"Would you like something warm to drink, or a bite to eat? You may be Leola's guest for some time, no point in making oyu unnessesarily uncomfortable."

Dahmnall

Dahmnall closed the door behind her and went to make tea. "Bedrooms are upstairs along with bathrooms, every room has its own one. Kitchen is in here, I have a library, a bar, a TV room, and a billard room in the basement. My bar is pretty well stocked, so feel free to help yourself." he walked back to the front room and took off his weapons and coat. "If something happens and you're attacked, 4 of my cousins will be here, even sweet little Shannon is a hellion in a fight." he opened the large closet in the front room and turned on the light. "This is my armory" he said showing her the assortment of guns and blades he kept in there, "All the guns are loaded," he said showing them all to her, everything from assault rifles to super soakers "The super soaker has holy water in it" he said. "All the blades are sharpened." he said showing everything from, chinese broadswords, to rapiers to rope darts and fighting knifes. He placed his weapons in their places. He heard the tea kettle go off "Half a minute" he said to her, "Elizabeth, how do you take your tea?"

"It's Ms. You obviously know of their night time occupations because, as you put it, they believe that they go around killing vampires. Maybe something to drink would be nice."

Amelia stole a glance at the bottle of sleeping pills and wondered how she would be able to put them to use.

Leola didn't care for their back and forth banter, she wanted to get to the killing.

"I'll call for some tea," Leola turned to head out the door

Elizabeth

Elizabeth was surprised at the beautiful house. She was more surprised when he started to show her the weapons he had. Looking at some of the knives she said,

"You have an interesting life and family, Dahmnall."

She smiled at the super soakers and told him that she took her tea with honey.

Dracuis barely turned, acknowlaging Leola's reparture for tea. He could feel the other vampire's near frustration as well as her annoyance at suddenly being resigned to fetching tea for the very woman she had captured. It was not going to be a good evening for her servants....

"I know about them. Possibly better than you, but again, their names please."

Dahmnall

"Sometimes interesting doesnt quite cover it." he says handing her a cup of tea with honey. "My family has been in the warrior business for some time. he said having a seat amd lighting a cigarette, "Have a seat if you like," he told her offering her a cigarette

Amelia

Amelia hadn't noticed when Leola entered the room but did smerk when she noticed that Leola left in a snit. She then reconsidered the intelligence of letting Leola go for tea and hoped it wasn't going to turn out to be a pretend tea party again. Trying to figure out a way to stall and wondering at the harm in giving names she answered,

"Dahmnall."
