I don't know if this has been done before, so here goes.

Which Operating system do use? Please don't say which is the est, there is none. All Operating Systems have their good points and bad points.
Example: Linux, very stable Operating System, good for programing and running a Network, but it doesn't have many good games that it can run. That's only one example.

If you have a Dual/Tri/Quad-boot system, selecet "Other" and post what you have.

3 computers
1 XP
1 Win 2000
1 Win 98

Each is good for its intended use but Xp looks promising

Windows 2000 Pro (Service Pack 1) on T-bird 1330
Windows 95C on Toshiba Laptop. (DX-33) It was free-OK!!
Use mainly Windows 2000 Server on work systems.

I will be setting up a Quad-Boot system with Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Pro, and Linux on my new computer.

It gonna be sweet.

My Advice.

Forget XP and 98. Just use Linux and Win2K.
Just my $4.95 worth.

Well, I own Windows 98, ME, 2000 Pro, XP Pro, and Linux. I want to us all of them for more then one reason.

#1. To be able to log in to any OS and provide Tech support for them.

#2. To have a look at each one, ands study them in depth.

#3. I am also a gamer, and Windows 2000 Pro isn't realy ment for games. Some work, but a lot of the games I play don't. I prefer to play my games on Windows 98, because it is the easist to set up with my games and Joysticks.

#4. Windows XP Pro is for my Web Design work, also to write my Novels.

#5. Windows 2000 Pro is for my programming.

#6. Linux, also for programing. Buit also to much sure my programs work on both, and also to see if Netscape likes my Web Sites I make under Internet Explorer.

Thanks for the advice though. I spent $200 for Windows 98, $400 for Windows 2000 Pro, Windows ME i got for free, but costs $250, Windows XP Pro I got for free, but normal costs $800, and Linux is always free.

I would have included Lindows to the poll, but it isn't out yet, and wont be if Microsoft win with suing Lindows.

Oh, the old one. I forgot it, not many people I know use it anymore.

I could not get Millenium to load anything USB

In order to even load my cable modem I had to go out and by the XP upgrade. Millenium simply would not load anything on my computer that was USB!!!!

I do recommand Windows ME (Millenium Edition).
Basicaly don't think of it as a full OS, but think of it as a expernsion set for Windows 98. Windows ME may install with out 98, but ME is basicaly Windows 98 with a new hair cut.
Windows 98 drivers work for it as well.

Windows ME may look good, but it is a bad OS, go with Windows 98. Why do you think I se Windows 98 and not ME? Many other computer techos will agree with me.

Windows ME on my gaming machine. I've actually had no problems with it yet. My cable hooked up fine, haven't had any problems with USB issues....so far so good! *keeps fingers crossed* When I built this new machine, I finally stepped above 98 OEM for the first time...scary but successful so far! :)

RedHat 7.2 on my dialup/firewall machine

Right...

Which can conveniently also be used as a coffee table if turned sideways!!! Lol :)

You underestimate the power of a PDP-11

I can heat an entire home with my PDP-11, and if I set an AM radio near it the bleedoff is quite musical. Running a PDP-11 helps the power-companies to have a stable, predictable demand...

Orlanth Tsk Tsk Tsk

Who says you cant game on 2K.
I have Quakes 1, 2 & 3. Unreal-T, Castle Wolf and all sorts of other games on mine. Even down to Emulated PSX games running thru Bleem.
All you need is MS's "App-Compat" pack from the 2000 download site. It can emulate 95, 98, NT4 (SP5). I have your email, I'll dig up the link and mail it over.

Windows ME *reaching for my bucket*
Nuff said.

Draco, I didn't know that about Windows 2000 Pro. Thanmks for letting me now. :)

I been wanting to play my games on Windows 2000 Pro, all 50 of them. Gonna take up a lot of room on my Hard Drive, lol.

If any one uses a Operating System which isn't on the list, just vote "other" and tell us what it is in your post.

Fine setup. My only complaint is the amount of money you can go through in cards for the card reader and paper for the line printer when you're in a chat room.
