Who's cooler, Sting or David Bowie?

I highly doubt Tom Petty has had more hits than Bowie? What are you basing your statistics on?

Uhm... I know I came on strong. Music/Art its personal preference. I happen to not like Tom Petty at all... just my tastes...

Sting.... I mean DB .... I mean the Goblin King ...uh who?

I was gonna say Sting right off the bat, but then I started thinking of fave Bowie movies - Labyrinth, et. al. and "Changes" - my fave DB song, so I guess I gotta go with DB, but we did play Sting songs at our wedding (along with some U2-it seemed cool enough in 89).

Dill...no harm done, "coolness" is very subjective.

I'm basing my statement only on my recollections of how many hits I can remember form each. I think Bowie has had some monster hits, but Petty has done very well for a hell of a long time, and I think has been much more popular over the last say ten years. But my curiosity is peaked to find out for sure, so I will do a little research.

Yes - probably more popular over the last 10 years - but Bowie had his first hit in 1965 I believe under the name David Jones and kept them coming for the next 25 years. I will admit that his work with Tin Machine over the last 10 years has not been as popular.
