Why didn't I kill you?

"I would at least like to have something else to ask about rather than someone that looked intoxicating"

Maria shook her head, "No, no I didn't look intoxicated. I was intoxicated...like ya know...drunk?" Maria rolled her eyes. He continued walking back and forth which made her clench her fists together.

Obviously by his next question he wasn't as dumb as he seemed. He asked her if the reason she was intoxicated was by a look. "No, it was from alcohol. Hence why I said drunk..."

Maria again rolled her eyes, "No, I don't recall anything else. I was drunk then ended up in that house."

She flicked her eyes towards the book he was showing her. They could use hypnotism..or something like it, seduction, mind control. Oh, it was definitely seduction that the Mark guy used on her but she shook her head. "Nope none of those."

He sighed, then something came to him. "How about this?" he asked with little hope as he turned the page and there was an image of a vampire seated on a throne, and a woman clearly under his control talking to another woman.

He didn't explain, she was annoyed by his talk, and as much as she also made him mad it was more important for her to concentrate. He just pointed at the text below.

Some vampires won't bother to scan for new preys, but instead will order someone under their influence, be it total or partial, to get someone for them, usually in exchange for some minor boon.

Some particularly fiendish vampires will use this to test their servants loyalty by making them turn in someone close to them.

"Did you see anyone unusual paying close attention to you?" He scanned her clothes for a second, she was in a club after all "other than horny guys I mean"

"How about this?"

Maria sighed exasperatedly and looked at the picture of the vampire with another vampire who looked somewhat subservient. She waited for Jake or whatever the hell his name was to explain, but he didn't so she assumed he wanted her to read it.

Maria bit her lip as she read the text. It all made perfect sense now that she read it. She wondered why Terry had done this to her and for a moment thought that maybe they weren't as close as they used to be.

No, of course not! That was silly, it was because that dumbass vampire cast a spell on her friend.

"No." She said, answering his question and unwilling to betray her best friend like that. Even if Terry had done that to her, she was much better than that. "Sorry, can't help you. You might as well let me go."

"Funny"

He closed the book harshly. He did notice a slight hesitation when read it, maybe some anger and then resolve, something was off, but he couldn't put his finger on it yet, she probably was hiding something from him.

Jack looked at the time, they certainly couldn't go to Dark Desires now.

"Maybe after sleeping you will remember some more"

Then he realized, that while he could keep her in there, he didn't want to make a prisoner out of her.

"I really hope you don't make me regret this, I'm not letting you go but" He reached across her and handed her the phone "...call whoever you want, make some excuses, I don't know. Things seem bleak, but with some luck this matter should be solved soon, you go back to be a human and out of my life."

He stood up and walked aside "You can call in the living room if you want"

"Who's joking?" Maria said, seriously as she watched him closely. She hoped she wasn't giving too much away. No, she was pretty good at this lying thing. Besides, he didn't seem that smart. If she were a slayer, she would've killed the vampire she'd captured..not questioned it.

"Maybe after sleeping you will remember some more"

"Maybe, buuuut I doubt it." Maria gave a little shrug.

"I really hope you don't make me regret this.."

Maria looked up at him hopefully her brown eyes were shiny with a look of pure and unadulterated hope but he continued and he wasn't letting her go, damn him!

"I'm not letting you go but" He reached across her and handed her the phone "...call whoever you want, make some excuses, I don't know. Things seem bleak, but with some luck this matter should be solved soon, you go back to be a human and out of my life."

"Gee thanks. What can i tell my roommate. oh hey, I'm staying at this guys house that I hardly know...but I'm okay..don't worry!" She rolled her eyes, "No, I'm okay..thank you."

Besides, her roommate was Terry and there was no way in hell she was calling Terry in this house. He might have the phones tapped or something!

"Well you are welcome" he replied in a tone similar to hers.

"Now as far as sleeping goes, you will have to do it either in the bathroom or the basement, those are the only places in which no sun will get in during the day."

Sure they could theoretically cover the windows in his bedroom, and for a moment he would have offered it... and a part of him wanted to share it, but that part of him was getting smaller as he was getting annoyed with her. He understood that the situation that got thrusted on her wasn't the best, but she could at least be somewhat thankful that he didn't stake her.

It was true, Maria could've been a little more thankful than she actually was but the point of the matter was she was kidnapped...vampire napped. Now, if she actually didn't know anything about her 'maker' so to speak then how pointless was this capture? She still didn't understand why he couldn't let her go but obviously it didn't matter what Maria thought.

"Oh, yay I get to sleep on the toilet or the bathtub. God, I love this place already." She said, she was full of spice tonight it seemed. It was odd too because normally she wouldn't be so mouthy but then, normally she wasn't a vampire.

"Lead the way I guess. I still think this whole capture the vampire until you find the vampire who killed your wife plan is pretty pointless though." She gave a shrug, "but hey who cares what I think right?"

"Nobody that is who" She wa certainly managing to run his patience thin, and the voice in his head that wanted to kill her was screaming by now.

He lead her to the bathroom and opened the door, "there, or you can take the couch and turn to dust in the morning, your choice"

He did hand her a pillow and blankets, he guessed she could figure a more accomodating arrangement using them, or at least stress trying.

"Anything you need?"

Maria stared at the blanket and pillow that were now in her hand. She was starting to feel a little guilty for being such a...bitch, but at the same time she knew that he deserved every kind of evil remark he'd gotten. She sighed and murmured, "Thanks and no I'm okay."

All that anger and sarcasm had been exhausting but was slowly starting to fade. She slowly stepped towards the bathtub and laid her pillow in there then stepped inside and covered herself with the blanket. It wasn't exactly the Hilton hotel but it was better than nothing she supposed.

It beat sleeping in a scary old mansion for the night, that was for certain. "Good night.." she said, before turning to face the wall. All she needed was a little sleep, then maybe in the morning she would wake up from this terrible nightmare.

"Goodnight" he was about to turn away but then added "if you happen to wake during the day and you want to go out of here, please bang the door hard so I can help you, we need to be sure sun doesn't hit you, seeing the sun it could be done."

Then he left her alone, maybe after she had more time to proccess this, she would be more cooperative, maybe she was annoying all the time, but things had to get better after she calmed down a bit.

He went to his bed and laid down, as he tried to pull his thoughts away of the beautiful sarcastic and annoying woman in his house.

That night, Maria found it hard to sleep. For one she was in a bathtub. How do you get comfortable in a bathtub, not to mention she was in a house with a man she didn't know. That could never make any woman comfortable. So to summarize, Maria had gone on a blind date only to be turned into a vampire at the end of the night and then captured by a crazy man.

She tossed and turned in the bathtub, groaning. She sat up and sighed. It was useless trying to get to sleep in a bath tub. Besides, she wasn't even really tired. She was starting to think that vampires didn't sleep. Not to mention the fact that it was evening time and didn't vampires normally come out at night?

Getting out of the tub, Maria began going through the things in his bathroom. Her mother used to tell her that you could tell alot about a person due to what was in his bathroom. She found different brands of cologne, toothpaste, shaving cream and that was it. Of course, he was a guy what more did she expect.

"God I'm bored.." she muttered to herself.

Then as she was looking around, the back of the cabinet fell down, with a loud thump revealing a hole in the wall. In it there was a stake, a gun, a vial of holy water and a journal.

It first entry had a date about 4 years and 6 months ago "I will start to write, because otherwise I'll go crazy, as crazy as the few people I dared to talk to about this think I am.

It hasn't been long since the police cleared me of their suspicions of my wife's death, now I can finally turn my thoughts to revenge, I have to avenge her and help the world by detroying that vampire. Even if I have no clue were to start... I really thought those things didn't exist.

Elizabeth I'm doing this for you, I hope that wherever you are, you know that and that I will always love you. I will write some of my memories of you here, maybe that could also find a clue of what happened."

Maria jumped as the cabinet fell. She picked up the stake and raised her eyebrow. Apparently, this guy thought he'd be getting attacked in his bathroom or something. She looked at the lone journal sitting on the floor and picked it up, frowning to herself.

After reading the journal Maria had come to one conclusion, that he'd lost his wife four years ago. The next year, Maria had met Terry. She pursed her lips and set the book down. She felt a little bad because she was being selfish. He was the one who had lost his wife.

Sure, she'd lost her humanity but what did that matter? He'd lost someone whom he had apparently loved alot. Of all people to get her turned into a vampire, it had to be her best friend..didn't it?

If nothing else, she'd at least try to be nicer to Jake.

The thump startled him, waking him up, the years of training kicking in not letting him sleep while there was movement around. Soon he realized it came from the bathroom, he stopped not wanting to get into the little privacy his unvoluntary guest had, still after a few minutes he decided that he should at least check on her. He didn't think of the hidden journal, it had been so long since he had touched it.

He stood up and went to the bathroom, he knocked softly at the door.

"I heard a weird noise, are you ok?"

The minute Maria heard the sound of the door opening, she quickly threw the journal in the tub, the shower curtain covered it. She didn't want him to think she was snooping even though she was. She bit her lip and then forced a smile. "everything's fine. I just can't sleep that's all." she said, flashing Jake a smile.

Her glance flicked towards the fallen cabinet. "Oh...and your cabinet fell...but I didn't go through anything, really!" Maria insisted, it occured to Maria that she was a terrible liar when she was stressed. She was actually kind of shocked that he hadn't seen through her lies earlier.

Or had he? Maybe that was why she hadn't been allowed free yet. She was going to have to work on the whole lying concept. "Thanks for checking on me, buuuuut I'll be fine. In fact, I can fix the cabinet. I'm good with my hands."

"It's alright, it's not broken, just loose, if you can get the left screw to hold it, you will have fix an annoying problem."

He wanted to be mad at her, it was clear that she was snooping around, and she probably had found the journal and had been reading it... her lies couldn't have been more obvious this time.

"I don't mind you reading some of it, maybe it will help you see why I want your help so much, and perhaps the bit of information I have about Marquis will help you remember something."

He sighed, why are you trusting her? she is going to go back to her sire and have a good laugh with him, about the idiot depressed because of the death of his wife! his mind screamed.

"Just please don't read what is writen in red, that is personal, and don't let it get wet"

This years alone, had been taxing on Jack's sanity, and when he was writing the journal he would sometimes write as much as he could remember about nights he had spent with his wife. He decided to use a different color for that, that way he could skip those parts when he was reviewing the information he had, or just read those if he was feeling particularly lonely. It had been a long time since he had touched the journal, but while he was making it, it really helped him.

"I do have other books if you want, but as much as I would like you too, you probably don't feel up to more learning about vampires tonight"

Maria stared at him with a blank stare for a moment. He knew she was lying yet, he wasn't screaming at her or freaking out. She walked towards the cabinet and pushed the left screw deeper into the wall with no problem. Vampire strength seemed really cool right now. Maria put the cabinet back in place then pulled the journal out of the tub. Luckily no water had been running.

Part of her wondered why she couldn't read what was in red. She didn't ask, she was sort of scared to ask. She nodded in response of not reading what was in red. "Alright." She bit her lip and set the journal on the toilet and sat at the edge of the tub while he went on to say that he had more vampire books. She shook her head vigourously.

"No, no thank you. I'll probably just try to go back to sleep again. Thanks for the offer though." She said, climbing back into the bath tub.

"I figured... goodnight" He nearly said something else, but figured it was better to just leave her alone, she already seemed calmer, so maybe time alone was what she needed.

He silently wondered how soon she would need more blood, and the voice started again about her sucking him dry the second he fell asleep.

While trying hard to ignore it he went back to his bed, attempting to sleep, knowing she had fell into a shock from lack of blood rather than attack him earlier, helped to ease his mind somehow.

Maria waited for Jake to leave the bathroom, then she pulled the journal out and just sat, staring at it. She couldn't seem to go to sleep. She was starting to think that vampires don't sleep. It was the obvious reason as to why she couldn't force herself to sleep. Now, she had a true dilemma. Should she read the journal or shouldn't she?

Oh sure, he said he didn't mind her reading it but then her mother always told her guys had a hard time saying no; especially when it came to the opposite sex. Maybe he didn't want her to read it and honestly, she didn't care to know about his past.

It was none of her business really. Still, that temptation lingered and god help her but she picked up the journal and slowly opened it to one of the pages and began to read.

(I'll let you write whats in your journal)

"...I can't believe this, I'm always close yet far from achieving my goal of destroying that monster, it even seems to mock me, because when I get close all that I get to see is how more people get killed.

However this is not why I started to write this, not to have a place to write my rants, but a place to keep information I found.

It seems that victims are always killed, there is also the slight possibility that arrival when the vampire is feeding makes it kill, it also seems to work alone, I haven't seen any helper, or driver near, and the escape is always using normal... if vampiric enhanced movement, not turning into a bat or mist or something weird like that. Even so a part of me wants to think that he stays in his natural shape just to mock me."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I miss you Elizabeth, everyday, I'm going to write another of our nights together to help me escape this reality for a while.

I'm sure that wherever you are, you remember it too, that night in which I got home earlier than you just to surprise you, but not with candles or a romantic dinner, I just pulled you hard the moment you walked in and put a blindfold over your eyes, you struggled but you were calm because you knew it was me. Then I pulled your arms behind your back and binded your wrists together with a rope, it was rough and it digged into your skin.

I pushed you forcefully against the wall, as I kissed and bit on your neck. I couldn't resist anymore, so I begun to pull roughly on your clothes not to take them off, but to rip them apart, I turned them into shreds and I shoved myself deep inside you, taking you hard and fast, needing you, all of you..."

Maria read over the black writing and pursed her lips. He really wanted to catch this guy and again, that feeling of guilt passed over her. Maybe she should help him out, it did appear as though he was desperate to find the killer of his belated wife...but then, what would happen to Terry?

It was silly for her to actually care because it was her fault that Maria had even brought into this situation. Continuing to read the journal, her eyes flickered over the red writing. She hesitated, trying to give herself reasons why she shouldn't read it.

OF course, he'd never know...right? She began reading the first paragraph, her eyes widened and she slammed the journal shut, not reading all of it. That was obviously a private moment and she didn't want to know anything that personal about her captor. Standing up, Maria put the journal away and just sat in the tub until the next evening.

As the sun faded away enough to be safe Jack knocked on the bathroom door. Not only because he didn't want to intrude on her privacy, as much as she managed to annoy him he needed her cooperation, but also because she would most likely be hungry, he had only given her enough blood to be functional the night before, and while she had been able to refrain from attacking him before, he wasn't sure how long she could fight the bloodlust... or if it grew inside her.

He braced himself, in case she opened the door out of the sudden and jumped at him, he hoped however that she was still in control of herself.

Maria had managed to sleep through the night. Apparently, vampires didn't sleep in the evening like human beings but they slept during the day. She guessed it was because they needed the energy to hunt unsuspecting prey. While she was sleeping a deep, foreign British voice called to her....Maria...come to me Maria when the sun goes down. Your master calls to you. As the sun faded away, the sound of a door knocking jolted Maria awake.

Her stomach growled with hunger. God, she was starving again! That meant that she needed blood. She didn't want blood but she craved it all at the same time. Slowly, she got up and walked towards the door and opened it up. Her senses went a flare. She could hear his blood pump through his veins and she backed away.

"Get away from me!" She screamed as she tried to ignore that blood lust that had begun immediately.

The scream made him hesitate, it hadn't been a threat, nor did she sound menacing, she just seemed very scared, he wanted to calm her down but she was being serious.... and she was probably right, it was better for him in theory she should be able to hold back until collapsing once more... or not.

Jack remained silent, awaiting by the door, paying close attention to what was going on inside, ready to act if the need were to arise... after all, how long could she resist the hunger?

"You are probably the biggest idiot in the world." She growled, this time her words were low and menacing which meant that the hunger was slowly starting to take over. She hadn't attacked him, quite yet because she was still trying to control her maddening senses. Every fiber of her being screamed to lash at his neck or arm or...well, every where.

"Get out of here..." she growled one more time, though her growl was still menacing her eyes pleaded with him to leave which only highlighted the humanity that still remained within her. "I d-don't know how much longer I can fight this hunger..."

Her eyes flickered a blood red as she tried to tame the beast within which only wanted to drain him of his blood until he couldn't move, nor think. She gripped onto the tub trying to hold herself back.

"Please.."
