why do more and more USA veteran commit suicide now?

At least he had a grandfather. Whose name is known. And which he carries. Instead of his mother's flea collar. Like some...

Awww...how sweet, you stood up for the big giant head.

Unfortunately, your reply was moronic, which is to be expected of you.

Try again, dudly.

How's that flea collar feel around your neck?

I know you're trying and it's not easy for you, but that really isn't funny.

Keep trying, It'd be nice, for a change, to laugh at you for a good one, rather than just being a sad, limpdicked little man.

So, You're saying it's a little tight?

Cool story, bro...

He must be rolling over in his grave at how bad you've carried on the family name.

Obvious projection from our anti-American leftist is obvious.

I'd be ashamed if my kid turned out to be a USA loathing socialist stain too, your mother must be sad.

Better than anything you've ever posted.

You're an idiot.

He can't he never made it past the 3rd grade.

He probably went to public school where no one advanced beyond that level.

It's about all it's worth, especially now days.

The AznJew super spawn hate private school because uniforms and homework suck but they'll thank us one day.

the veteran suicide rate is significantly higher than that of the general population. According to the most recent data, more than 6,000 veterans commit suicide on an annual basis. This comes out to an average of 17 veteran deaths by suicide per day.

The standards are lower. We enlist a lot of young people who have no business entering the military.

These young people are by no means of a lower standard. They are some of the brightest and most dedicated people I know. They are all walks of life including college grads who felt the need to serve their country and sacrificed life, limbs, and all that they knew as a normal life. They served multiple tours. Most were willing to go back because they don't recognize a "normal" life anymore. Sometimes it's guilt for previous loss of friends, but mostly it's because they think they have unfinished business.
I repair the limbs of these dedicated vets and try to help them get the psychological help, but it is an uphill climb. They are told that they shouldn't have been over there, that it was a mistake for them to fight, but most of all that they shouldn't have cared about the people in those countries that they were stationed in.
A lot of the recruits are children of former soldiers and there are quite a few children of "new" citizens who want to give back to their new home country.
Yet for all of the fucked up things that they are exposed to, there is a lot of retention of these vets in the service and I think the armed services owe them a lot more than what they have been doing for them.

I respectfully disagree. I have been serving for 31 years (enlisted in 1988), and I can validate that the standards for enlistment are actually higher now.

Veteran suicide isn't about the quality of the soldier. In my humble opinion it's about leaders not doing their buddy checks. It's squad mates who loose touch with their comrades because life gets us going in circles. It's about a culture that tells a soldier that it's not ok to ask for help.

The question isn't about fixing blame on whatever's wrong. The question of this thread is about formulating help to make sure we don't loose more veterans at home.

You've hit on some of the reasons. There is also that there is a serious culture shock after ETS. Someone that has not served, especially in a combat situation, cannot appreciate the bonds formed nor, for lack of a better word, the "aliveness" that that sort of situation puts an individual in.

You hit on the squad mates issue. The ETS'd soldier finds him/herself in a seemingly chaotic world. A world that makes little sense to the individual and one in which the soldier cannot communicate because there is no common ground regarding the point of view and those in the civilian world rarely understand a soldiers humor, which is often decidedly dark.

More and more local support groups are forming up to address the issues.
