Say it ain't so, Mac, say it ain't so!

I've seen the same thing proposed in a couple of places. My latest reading though is that if McCain is tanking this one, it's all on a level that he's not aware of yet.

McCain may be Shoeless Joe here. Not quite culpable, not quite aware of the specifics, but involved in his own way. Palin is just such an egregious fuck-up of a choice for veep. When I first saw her I started laughing at how stupid the whole thing was, and it has only gotten worse.

Maybe it is me hoping that they're evil and canny, and have some long-term goal, and not just blindingly incompetent. *shrug*

From reading this thread you'd think her approval rating was around 20%. Actually is was 54% last week. Higher than Biden. I'm glad it is Biden. One of the biggest assholes in all of politics. It's going to be hard for him to not be himself.

WD - It doesn't look like too many people share your view of Biden. What makes you think he's an asshole?

This partisan hack is going to moderate the debate? She even has an Obama book coming out. Can we let Rush do the next one?

Why weren't you wetting your pants over Jim Leher? He let McCain overrun just about every question on the offensive, pretty good for a leftist tool. I'm sure it'll be fine. Considering her special dispensations and all.

That video is classic!

You really gotta love the woman taking orders. "Name." HAHAHA!

And the kid from Temple was great.

I think that plays as bad as her meltdown.

They look weak. It's time to let her be her spunky sparkly self or self destruct on her own.

It's a book on black politics "in the age of Obama." Gwen Ifil a partisan hack? Have you ever heard her, WD?

I'm not actually a huge Jim Leher et al fan, but I do like that neither of the moderators so far are big media personalities.

I'm starting to wonder if it's 1919 and McCain is batting for the Sox.

Somebody I respect made a comment along these lines, and I'm starting to agree.

This possibility invokes a lot of respect for McCain, but it's not something I can write off because I actually had a lot of respect for McCain at...some point back in the past.

1. That he can hold a grudge. You think?

2. That the party fucked him so bad, so badly bad that he'd do anything to get it back. I think I'd be a bit vindictive.

3. That he can say and do things he doesn't believe with a different end goal in sight. I don't know how else you WOULD survive his experiences. I think "becoming whatever I have to become" is in the range of possible and I don't say that as a slam. That's political greatness. Willingness to be a cartoon villain if that's what has to be done.

4. That it would be kind of maybe kind of satisfying to see this hung by its own creationist far-right hardline social issues insane petard. The people who made fun of him for reform, climate control and immigration. Maybe he believes in those things more than we could possibly know at this very moment.

It DOES make me feel less cynical. I want to believe it. It's a dignified explanation for the "old pen" jokes.

I feel like I can't keep up with the news anymore!

The Palin-Couric interview clips are awful. I can't watch them, and I never felt like that with W. I watched and jeered. No problem.

According to totally biased liberal sources, Obama is gaining in the polls. Maybe it's just slow turn around, but with everything that stinks about McCain in my book, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. I mean, it's not as though McCain fucked the economy himself. There is plenty of blame to pass around. But the Dems are looking very organized these days, or at least organized by comparison.

That's the crux of it. Whatever your thoughts, there is no way that the scattered and changing nature of their campaign can be inspiring swagger. No matter how much you love them, you can't look me in the eye and say "no it's a good campaign." I think the Obama campaign is pretty lackluster in some areas, he still remains kind of flat footed without the written speech, he's losing some of the left-of-base mentally, but they may still vote that way, they may go Nader again in disgust.

He's doing one thing really well though. I think he's convincing the independents and centrists that he's much more amenable to doing across the aisle biz. McCain's partisan, cranky delivery doesn't inspire confidence on that, even though his record on going across the aisle may even be better than Obamas!

IEM and Intrade aren't partisan, they're just for gambling addicts and econ jocks. And they tell an interesting story. They're more responsive in a lot of ways than polls, they had McCain way up when Palin was riding high on her moment at the RNC.

Things look grim for that campaign now on both. And Intrade has at least some rogue traders who seem to be trying to screw with the Obama pricing, even.

I managed to put my quote in the wrong thread. Just like the economy. I'm falling apart.

I don't think Obama will lose much to Nader.

I heard McCain interviewed on NPR this morning and man did he sound pissed and defensive. He sounds like such a nutter.

I agree re: Nader. I think a lot of really hard core lefties understand that the center is what you need to win no matter what. There will always be some people with no sense of political win though.

We started voting here over a week ago. I voted yesterday. Not saying who for.

It's so like right wing humor to make fun of black people voting Obama because he's black, while McCain gets him a pussy any ol' pussy for the ticket because women, you know, are that stupid.

"I'm voting for McCain he's whiter" should replace "country first."

that's ok though. There are enough elitist, apathetic, idiots , secret KGB plant professors, atheists, and gay parents teaching their children to suck cock at age 3, in the US that RCP, Intrade, IEM, and 538 are showing Obama up.

Damn! Must resolve in future to hide former life as KGB professor. Fearless Leader will be much unhappy kamper.

I saw it more as shoring up the base while at the same time going after Joe and Jane Sixpack. Those with less than one year of college who tend to vote democrat in places like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Yep, the people Biden mobilizes. The volatile white line on the CNN feelgood meter during the debate. Elite dickwad is a Scranton blue collar local.

Obama the elitist paid his student loans off with his book. What a silver spoon in his mouth.

*because maybe college isn't the only thing that shows you that your boss may not give a shit about your job and salary unless he has to*

The whole elite thing, let's talk about that a moment. I had an education that would probably qualify me as an elite.

My mother is a single legal secretary. When my stepdad was alive our income never got above about 45 K.

It takes a village. A meshuggah dysfunctional village in my case, but a village.

Oh, by the way I worked my ASS off in school, but you know, that's not work, right. A person gets a scholarship, especially an unworthy POOR person and then they just sit there with a thumb up their ass.

I had it easy. For the first time in my academic life I had friends worse off than I was. A first generation gay Filipino friend whose parents had both died and who was paying his own way and who was raised by a sister. A self-described "white trash" girl from Tennesee, from single mom, homeless father, small sibs family.

These are some of your elites. Yeah, there are legacies, yeah there are BMW drivers, but I honestly urge people to talk to some elite college students and ask them about their home life.

The winner was having Charles Murray invited to speak, because we're VERY scared of seeming like we don't embrace every side of every argument, god forbid we're BIASED in any way. So me and those friends could hear about how unworthy, horrible, and genetically inferior we all are compared to the kids getting the legacy and BMW.

Elitist first-gen college grad to right wing - gfy.

Biden brings the pro abortion catholic vote. It's kind of a wasted pick for developing new talent. Biden got what? 32 votes in the primary? He'll be older than McCain in 8 years. Robinette is his middle name? Robinette? How quaint!
