Why is the General Board so boring??

And from what I've noticed on the Playground, MOST threads die out because the board is taken over by the long time never ending threads that hog the first page. New threads don't have a chance here. For example, right NOW, this thread is the only thread on the first page of the Playground that doesn't have at least 579 posts to it. And the vast majority of them have thousands! On the GB, I'd have them ALL on ignore. I hate never ending threads, personally.

Then go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is exactly what the Playground seems to be saying to most people if you don't want to fit into one of the many never ending threads here. ALL threads have a chance of "making it" on the GB.

This generalization is based on a limited sample. Without even looking at the PG thread list this morning I'm willing to bet that a half dozen of the ones on the first page were started less than three or four months ago. While three months might be a near eternity on the GB, here it represents only the beginning of the life of a popular thread.

Clearly, threads with any sort of perseverance in each forum serve purposes that suit the participants of the forum - otherwise they die out. It's not true, however, that threads die here when they drop off the first page. Many simply have an ebb-and-flow posting pattern that develops from the posting lives of those who participate.

No, we don't say that to people from anywhere who want to post here.. Most are given very warm welcomes...

I'm just saying to you.....

If I hate a place, I don't go there..
The only people that hate someplace and keep going back are either looking for trouble, ot just plain fucking nuts!!

Which are you??

Youll find very, very few threads on the PG like that.... because most of the threads started here make sense... they serve a purpose and they are threads which near 'bout everyone feels comfortable posting to, with very few exceptions (but admitedly there are exceptions).

So I wonder which is worse..... or is EITHER worse?
just askin' ;)

I think the basic premise in starting and/or continuing threads is drastically different. I have begun two threads here in the Playground (actually began them back before there was a Playground, in the Personals section). They have continued for YEARS! A GBer visited one and commented how odd it was that the thread was ongoing and that I visited it almost daily and responded to the posts.

That isn't the way they do things on GB. They will start a thread as a rant, or to get a few "short-term" responses. Most threads disappear in less than a month, a fair percentage in less than a week. That is just the GB way of doing things.

I do think the Playground is friendlier, less confrontational. But some people like the "in your face" style of GB. I think Lit. is big enough for both.

It isn't that one is better than the other. It is that they are different. And Variety is the Spice of Life!

That is the difference.

Here in the Playground we enjoy never ending threads. They are places to gather for interaction with old and familiar friends. Many PGers subscribe to a few threads and visit them often.

There is little reason to subcribe to threads on the GB because they disappear so quickly.

Subscription also allows a person to find their favorite threads, even if those threads aren't on the first page.

There are new threads started in PG, though not nearly as many as on GB. There is simply a different emphasis or purpose in the creation of threads between the two boards.

I said I hate never ending threads. Exactly where in there did you read the word "playground?" You CAN read, can't you?

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. What you say is true. What
babydoll2u said wasn't true. That was the point.

Except I'd add that most threads last a period of HOURS on the GB, not days. A thread that lasts days has staying power.

I post on the General Board as well as this one.....they have a shorter attention span......they also tend to like smart assed quips as a way of expressing themselves.........they also think they are intellectuals....but that is very debatable LOL

We DO have our share of idiots, too.

But we don't have any "counting" threads.

It sure in the Hell is. And then they disprove that time and time again. But Chey does have ya on the counting threads. :p

What I said is my opinion.... just as what you said is yours. Doesn't make either of us right or wrong... we just disagree.

I think that is probably true. A thread that lasted less than a day in the Playground is almost unheard of.

Again, it is a different style and emphasis. Neither is "right" or "wrong". Both have their place. That is why I am glad Lit. allows for both a GB and a PG.

We do have some threads in the PG that I personally consider pointless. The GB has those, as well. But apparently some people enjoy those threads. Certainly in the PG. They continue to recieve views and posts. As they say, different strokes...

and I guess that's worse than some of the stupid, nonsensical threads that are started for no earthly reason on the GB......
threads like:
... I have the most awesome damn crotch!!!!
... I don't like when waitresses call me hun
... Nothin' but green pussy
... Glamorilla your box is FULL again
among many others.

Oh lets not forget the threads knocking the new HT Cafe board (4 separate threads at last count, lol)

Many of the threads on the GB make no sense. A good percentage of them get few replies and they die off.
