Winter Holiday 2010 Contest Support Thread

Thanks for that.

Most recently, comments have been constructive, even, good grief, from Anonymous!

If I do edit, do I need to do anything special to preserve comments (losing the low votes wouldn't distress me...)

The normal procedure when you submit an edit is to change only what you request, leaving everything else ( including votes/views/comments ) as they were.

The editing process for Lit is a little involved. Are you familiar with it?

Fifty5, how about changing your point of view to third person and adding fictitious details of character: description, name, etc. You can still base fiction on real people, look at fan fiction. Fiction doesn't mean you can't be grounded in reality or that it has to be about a vivid imagination. But, you can do it in a way that it doesn't have to be incriminating. Find yourself an editor on here to help you. A bit of character and plot development should help. Give your story the time it deserves.

Read, Read, Read! The more of the type of story you want to write, you read, the better you will see what it is your stories might need. Lots of people on here with wonderful advice, constructive criticism, and encouragement. Use those resources. Goodluck! :)

PS: I did NOT mean to rhyme there!
My first version of this was 3rd person. It seemed to me to lack impact. Another option was to write it 1st person, from the POV of the male - that didn't grasp what my own comment pointed out that I wanted to do: illustrate the vulnerability of women who consent to illicit sex. From either the male, or a 3rd person, POV, that seems to me to be impossible; the male (in this story) knows he just wants to give pleasure, so does the 3rd person omniscient. Only the woman (in 1st person) is fully aware of the risk she is taking - no matter how much she trusts the guy in the story.

I'm well aware that my ability probably isn't up to getting that across. Any assistance in achieving that aim - even after the competition closes (I know I won't win) - will be gratefully received.

No, to date I've never edited any of my stories after submitting them.

In addition, is it possible to change the category? With hindsight and having read comments here, maybe Loving Wives might be better than erotic Couplings.

Category is one of the things you can request as a change, but that is the one thing where Laurel is known to exhibit editorial control more frequently than others. This usually happens with the initial posting, though.

Erotic Couplings is a catch-all, so moving it to a narrower category probably won't be an issue -- so long as it fits the category.

I trust you understand the rather... 'interesting' nature of the Loving Wives readership? *laugh* It's not a category to be undertaken lightly.

Here's the editing method for Lit.

  • Take note of the Lit ID# of your story/chapter. That's the number appearing at the end of the URL in the address bar of your browser when you view the first page of your story.
  • Start a new submission.
  • Use the same title as the original ( or as much as will fit ) plus something such as *EDIT*
  • Fill in the same category, then fill description and keywords with placeholders, as they don't matter. ( Unless one of these things are what you're editing )
  • If editing the story text, paste/upload the new text in the "story text" section. If editing anything else, copy the "notes" section detailed below in order to fill this section.
  • In the "notes" section, say what you are editing. If story text, then put that. If title, then put the requested NEW title here. You can fill in edited descriptions/keywords/category above, but you'll still want to list any such changes here. It's a good idea to list the Lit ID# that I mentioned in step 1. This is unique to every story/chapter, and can help eliminate the potential for human error. As mentioned above, if you are editing anything other than the story text, copy what you put in the notes section to the "story text" as well. This is simply because there must be something in that section for you to submit.
  • Click "Review", then "Submit"

Edits are subject to the same wait time as a new story. I have seen edits go up in bulk in far less time than a story usually requires to post, though.

If you edit the story in this manner ( as opposed to deleting and re-submitting ) you'll retain your votes, views, comments, etc. The only thing that will be changed is what you say that you want changed. It will not appear on the New List again.

If you wish to delete a story, use much the same method, except put something such as *DELETE* in the title, and say that you want to delete the story in question in the "notes" section.

Convoluted, but it does work. It gets a little easier as you get used to it.

It is possible, and I believe it would fit better there too. In fact, I would have expected Laurel to move it to the LW category, because it is about a married wife cheating on her husband. She probably would have, but you made so little mention of the protag's marital status Laurel might not have noticed it. In your editing, you should say something like: "..had no wish to leave her husband, but sex with him was so predictable and boring it was more of a chore than a pleasure." You might even expand on that a bit.

Anyhow, good luck.

ETA: If you are changing the category, list the new category where it is asked for.

Thought I'd post my total before the big vaccum starts coming through. I'll have a record on how many lost votes I had. Don't worry authors, my stories aren't a threat to you. Not in competition for first or last place. Your safe. Totals don't include feedback or e-mail. I also post on two other sites but averages are better on them, there is no contest on the other sites and feedback/comment are personal.

To those who ask: The percent of votes to readers is large, I have no idea why I get the votes. As you can tell, not all votes are high ones.

Retaliation Would getting even be the answer?

Best of luck to all authors who have entered the contest this year. I never know when it will be my last contest. After awhile it does get a little old, but still fun.

CONGATULATIONS!!!!

Accumulating a vote total that high for a ROMANCE category story is simply amazing. In fact your story is now one of the TOP 10 vote getters in ROMANCE history (out of some 10,000 stories!). And this in so short a time period.

I think it demonstrates what can happen when one of the big boys takes aim at a category normally peopled by lesser lights. It shows what a 1000+ VOTE STORY Club member can do when he sets his mind to something.

I think we definitely have an A.I.R. CONTEST Winner here…Keep up the good work…

Hey everyone. :)

The deadline is near! lol.
I didn't write at all yesterday. At. All. Boo.
I haven't written any today either. Nothing.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I can have it finished in time. :(
If not, no big deal. :)

I also need to get busy reading. Haven't done that for a few days. :)

As of last night 11:30ish:

87 stories in 26 categories ( Only 5 categories not represented ) Still seven different categories represented in the current top 10 stories by score.

The average score is 3.93 and the median 3.98.

A total of 16,867 votes have been cast on contest stories, with an average of 211 and a median of 149 per story.

Still only showing 32 swept votes, but the Hoover creeps ever closer by the day.

Contest stories have accumulated 1,651,195 views, with an average of 20,640 and a median of 15,457

Readers have favorited contest stories 160 times. Average of 2 and median of 1.

830 comments have posted to contest stories. Average of 10 and median of 6.

Only two stories ( that have listings available -- new stories each day have very little data available ) haven't reached the 25 vote qualification mark, though there are 6 others within the "danger zone" of less than 50 that often don't survive to qualify after the sweeps.

Two days left after today to get your entry in.

Chop-Chop :D

Whoop!
It's done! It's finished! It's submitted!

Yay me, lol. :nana:

Just in time for Sunday night cartoons. :p

*Kitten glances around the emptiness and feels sad inside her heart. She decides this place needs perked up, but she isn't sure how. Suddenly, she hears sleigh bells in the distance, and a light bulb goes off above her head.
Quickly, before anyone can stop her, she drags the tree down from the attic and decorates it, only getting tangled in the lights twice. With that accomplished, she drapes garland over everything that will stand still. She runs around lighting candles, and finally stops at the radio, turning it to Christmas music.
She steps back and admires her handiwork, and can only hope someone will drop by and see it. She grabs herself a can of pop and sits in the corner, smoking cigarettes, watching for people through the window.*

Muaha.. yeah, I'm bored, lol. I haven't opened the document with my new story in it yet.. I'm debating on just going to bed. Hmm. Soon perhaps. :)

Second story off and running.., it has more than enough votes to count, but yet again, on my computer, it doesn't show up forever. :D

I hope everyone had a great Monday! :) Maybe sometime soon someone besides me will show up....? :p

But kitty, you forgot the tree topper! *flutters up and sits her faery self on top of the prickly tree, smiling angelically, trying hard not to wince*

Oh! How could've I? For shame. :)

Um, sweetie, we could go buy one...? *winces for you* However, you do make a delicious addition! :D

*struggles to her feet and hovers over the tree instead* Much better! *closes eyes and meditates serenely*

Thanks! *opens eyes and looks around for the snow*

I think there's lots of people who'd be more than willing to share their real snow with us (had flurries today), but I know you are just itching your wittle kitten ears to use the faux stuff, so...have at it! :catroar:

Muahahahha!

*attacks the place with the faux snow* (HAH. Love it. :D)

Thanks Luna, I appreciate that. Oops, sorry, didn't mean to get ya. :)

(It snowed for the past few days. Just light stuff. Nothing too crazy.
However, roads were slick this morning. Eek. I'm not ready for that mess. :D)

My pleasure! *wipes fake snow off of face* No, not looking forward to that nastiness either. But I can't wait to make *dreamy* snow men and snow angels and play. :)

I went to the cemetery at 9 o'clock this morning to put flowers on my dad's grave, and by the time I got the old flowers out of the vase, my fingers weren't working.
(I tie them in with wire, and it's too fine to wear gloves. :() With the wind chill it was 10 degrees at that point, and it felt it, lol.
I had to apologize for the crappy flower job and run back to the car. I'd forgotten how bad I hate the trip to put Christmas flowers out, lol.

But the rest of winter- I love it. The out playing in the snow part, and the staying in all cozy and warm, watching it snow part. :)

*gives a couple extra shots of faux snow to the tips of the tree limbs, hiding a smile*

Oh Kitty, I'm sure he was pleased with the flower job you did do. Brrr! Yes the cozied up part is even better. Hot cocoa, fire burning, a good book, a kitty on my chest, dog at my feet, music...ahhh only thing better would be someone to snuggle with!

I posted a post called Holiday Love and Energy a few days ago. http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=739427 It had gotten lost in the shuffle. Might like to read it. Sometimes reminders help, especially this time of year.

I read it, but I am so tired right now that my brain isn't forming what I want to say in the reply to that, lol. I've started typing three times now. Too in depth for my eyes to be half shut. :D
So I will try and respond like a human being in the morning, when I've had my coffee. :D
I loved it though! :)

I'm off to bed... sleep sweet. :)

I'll be glad to see it on one front. The tracking is a hell of a lot easier once there aren't new submissions to deal with and activity tails off. Lots of cells that don't need editing :D

I'm guessing that there are going to be over 20k votes cast, 200+ favs, 1000+ comments, and there's a pretty good chance that views will break 2 million.

A shade over 21 hours to submit, and then it's time to start watching the horizon for the Hoover.
