Winter Holiday 2010 Contest Support Thread

I Just counted 73 stories for the contest. That's pretty light for the winter holiday contest so I went and entered another one. Not loving wife but Romance. Good luck all, hope all is well.

I did my share (lol). I have 9 entered and 3 more to submit. Down from my high of 22 stories entered in a contest, but there wasn't as much time in between contest this time.

Still, this is a fun contest. I always liked the Santa theme.

It's about time you won, DG. You deserve to win. You're always so much like the contest cheerleader, the same with Dark and Ogg, that it gets everyone else excited about the contest.

Good luck to you.

Good morning all. :) Just came to *bump*. :)

Ugh, my head hurts like crazy.. I wanna write this morning but at this point I'm having trouble concentrating, lol.
Maybe after bit. :) But on a high note, I finally got these stupid characters to have sex, yay! :D

Hi End, winning isn't that big of a thing for me even though it wiould be nice. I did win a in a couple of monthy contest years ago. and for 2008 got first place in non-erotic story of the year. So I'm happy with that.

If I get excited about a story, I can write one (shorter one) in a day, two at most. I was wondering how long it takes you to think-up and then write a story? I'm not the best writer and have to have someone make my sloppy corrections. I take it you edit your own for such quick submissions.

I have one more short story I wrote over the weekend. Just got it back from my editor last night but that will be it for me. Mind doesn't want to think now. LOL I have to wait and see what strikes my fancy to write about.

Lately my stories have become longer with more detail and story line. The comments I get seem to like the slightly longer stories. They get aggravated when I write a quick jerk off story which I do from time to time. My biggest decision anymore is whether to make them single submissions or multiple.

Well, good luck to you, hope your stories do well.

I do! I finally got them to, then they irritated me again. Makes me mad at the whole story, lol.
I don't know what I'm gonna do with them. *sigh*

Oh, and thanks for the comment by the way. I was offended for .02 seconds until I got to see the whole thing.
Then I laughed. Hard. For being such a ninny. :D lol.

How often do people get votes and comments for non-contest entries? I'm just curious to see. Obviously, it makes sense that contest entries get the most attention, at the time of the contest. But, do you find that most readers will just read the non-contest stories without voting/commenting? Or does it just depend on the story, category, and regulars?

What's the best way to alert your readers that you have edited or improved upon a story? Posting it on the profile or posting a comment on that story?

I'm working on my Valentine's Day entry right now.
It is helping to take the focus off my tooth pain and various other things that are shaking things up.

I only write when inspired. I think of an idea first. Anything can inspire me, a word, a sentence or an image. Because I'm participating in the Survivor Contest, I keep the current categories in mind and focus my thoughts on categories.

Then, before I start writing the stories, I list all my ideas for stories, just one or two words, really.

Then, I'll start writing all the stories and every day, I add to each story, until the stories grow too big that I can only work on a few in a day. Within six weeks, I have, at least a dozen stories and 100,000 words.

Some writers can't work on multiple stories. If I only write one story, I get bored. I write 2,000 to 4,000 words a day, every day.

I edit all my own stories. I'm a terrible editor and a worse speller. Editing is my least favorite thing to do. Yet, by the time I reread each story dozens of times, I'll catch most of the mistakes.

The thing is, I don't want writing to feel like a job. I want it to be light and fun. Once I take my stories too seriously, I'll lose interest.

I try and write the best story that I know how to write. Even though it may seem, as if I'm just dumping stories, I'm not. I spend 8 to 12 hours a day, every day, writing. It's my passion.

I'm disciplined. This is what I want to do. We're all lucky to have this site to post our works. The only thing that would make it better, is if we could earn money writing.

I tried the E-books. They're not for me. Good luck to those who write E-books. Publishers take the fun out of writing. They make it too much like the business that it is.

Writing what I want, when I want now, is probably the best time of my life.

Thanks for responding. I started writing in 2005. I'm an amature and always will be. I like it when I get a thought and I just have to write about it. I'll write till It's not fun anymore. I thought I had stopped a couple of times but then, I get an idea that I think will make a great story.

I do know that one day I will just stop. I do wish you the best and that it all works out for you. For me, it's like Christy Lane, sang. 'One day at a Time.'

Oh, My second story posted today. I do have one more I received back from the editor this morning. Have to reread it and see if I want to enter it. For some strange reason, readers expect more out of me. LOL
Good luck to all that entered the contest.:)

I abandoned the story where the characters irritated me and jumped to another I started 2 years ago. :D
They, unlike the unruly ones in the other story, are perfectly happy having sex. :D Yay!
I'm hoping to get it finished off and sent in tomorrow. :nana:

Ive never had trouble getting characters to have sex, Though I have had trouble getting them not to and getting them to wait till i had a story fleshed out so it wasn't just sex Ha ha.

I've had that problem too lol. Sometimes ya just gotta roll with it, lol.

andtheend, your "Santa, All I want for Xmas is a job" moved me. I left a comment, but wanted to thank you!

Thank you for your kind words.

It's a story that needed to be written, as so many people, more than they confess, are have tough times.

If there is a Santa Claus, I hope he brings those who want it, a job.

Happy Holidays and good luck in the contest.

Why did another story pop into my head last night?
There aren't enough hours in the day!! lol.

I better get some more coffee! :D

Why is writing fun and editing work?

Mornin' Tx. :rose:  Thanks. :) Happy editing! lol.

Hmm, 'cause when ya edit ya have to pay attention to what you're doing. :)

I'm starting to get depressed, People stopped paying attention to my story, and I haven't had a single comment in over a week.
My first story has been stagnant for a couple of days also. As I mentioned, it happens to everyone. I do have an awful lot of votes and comments though.

Retaliation Would getting even be the answer?

How do you manage so many views and votes? I have only 6,650 and 31 respectively, with four comments, even though my story has been posted for almost a week.

:(
Box I just wanted to let you know that I have a second story that got posted yesterday. I honestly don't know why I get so many votes. Reads are down some but even comments are up. This story was posted on a wed. and is in Romance.

Okay. I am so close to done with this other entry. I just need to have the time to sit and finish it.
Got my coffee, and I'm off to work on it. :D
I wanna get it submitted like, NOW. :D

Man, the contest does wonders for view/vote totals huh.

It sure does. In 36ish hours my first contest submission ever has twice as many views as my first ever submission. Crazy! I also got some meaningful feedback, which on this site authors consider themselves fortunate to find.

Also I've noticed that the votes I get for the story are markedly lower than the ones I got for just run of the mill submissions / chapter entries. They say it's trolls but my story may have lacked credibility at the outset. I don't know, it's not long or complicated.

Read it here.
